    Hi. I would like to ask You to interprate specific situation which happened and it is dificult to find answers in the books. Lets imagine that RVR of the airport measured by AWOS at 3 points is 300 meters. You are over airfield and see good weather conditions Vis above 10 km no clouds, only fog at end of RWY 14L. But you can see 3/4 of RWY and You have vis above 10 km from RWY 32R. You are IFR but asking TWR/APP for VMC approach and received his clearance for LDG. Question is if the RVR now is override by Your Pirep and You can land VMC or You have to respect RVR numbers and if they are below Your minima go to alternate. I would be gratefull for Your advise. Greetings Kris

    • @Flying101DC
      @Flying101DC ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, thanks for taking the time to watch the video and for your question. In the situation you have outlined, if you are an IFR flight and have requested a VMC approach and received clearance for landing from the tower or approach control, you should respect the RVR numbers provided by AWOS. If the RVR is below your minimums, it would be necessary to go to your designated alternate airport as per regulations. Your PIREP alone may not override the RVR measurements unless the controller explicitly informs you otherwise. Hope this makes sense.

    This was a good video explaining some of the forces on aircraft in nontechnical terms! I noticed a couple of misconceptions about your physical description of lift, however. The greater distance on the topside of the foil does not create the increased speed experienced there, and there is not a one-way causality between the increased speed and low pressure. Rather, the pressure and velocity gradients go hand-in-hand in sustaining one another during lift. Lift is also not a suction force felt on the top of the foil, but rather a push experienced on the bottom of the foil, as differences in pressure always create a push, not a pull. The oversimplification of the process, as noted in the video, may lead to some fallacies, but a good video nonetheless to describe the forces experienced by an aircraft during flight!

    • @Flying101DC
      @Flying101DC ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and provide your feedback. I appreciate your technical insights regarding the concept of lift, and I agree with the points you have made. The purpose of the video was to explain the complex concept of lift in a simple way for the general audience, and I acknowledge that some details were oversimplified. However, I'm glad that you found the video of some value. Thank you again for your comment.

    Very informative! I was in a go-around once when landing in San Francisco in a 747. It was unsettling because we were so close to touching down but I had such respect for the power of the aircraft to shoot straight back up again from that altitude. The pilot informed us later that there was another plane that hadn't left the runway.

    • @Flying101DC
      @Flying101DC ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks very much Lisa - glad you found that informative. It’s quite natural to feel unsettled, especially when the plane is so close to the ground. The thing to remember is that a go-around is a normal procedure, and aircraft are certified from a performance standpoint which ensures that they will be able to achieve a safe climb gradient while executing a missed approach. This, in conjunction with navigation procedures designed for the go-around, ensure that safety margins are maintained :)
