    Most everything that this gentleman is saying are all lies. If you are a child is white and goes to school on Maui, he or she is going to be subject to physical attacks and verbal torment. The so-called culture is one of racism by the indigenous people here as they resent white people moving to the island pushing on real estate presence. Maui is a great place to live if you have a lot of money and you’re looking to retire in specific areas, which are typically starting off 3.5 million. There’s lots of crime and county corruption. The positives are many, such as the weather beaches views and relaxed lifestyle. This gentleman that’s making this video is a realtor and painting it as a great place to live, which it is, but you do have to deal with a lot of negatives.

    If you have kids who are school age, education here is abysmal, unless you can afford private school - and that makes food prices pale in comparison. You need to know yourself, your needs and your lifestyle preverence. I'm from Southern California, and I find Maui SO much more a fit for me.

    Current Maui Resident here: Regarding food... if you shop strategically it's not really any different than mainland. Costco is usually relatively close price-wise, and you can hit safeway/foodland for their weekly specials that are actually cheaper than costco.

      @mauireallife 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is so true! Before we moved here a friend told me about going to different grocery stores for different items and that's what we've found. Costco takes care of the main things and then you need to find the sales and best deals everywhere else. Coming from the Pacific Northwest prices weren't all that different!

    I lived on Maui for 2 years in the early 2000s. Two things I noticed off the bat it was very expensive and outside of the tourist areas the locals really don't like mainland folks, or anyone that does not look native Hawaiian, which was me because I am white. No matter how nice and polite I was, the vibe was seemingly unfriendly. Loved Maui, but just felt like an outsider.

    Good advice... one more thing you have to let people know, especially if you're retired and are getting older. Medical facilities and doctors are VERY limited on maui. If you have any medical problems Maui is not the place to live. Locals have to travel to Oahu or the mainland to get a lot of specialty care. Maui is one of the most beautiful places.... but there are drawbacks.

    • @mauireallife
      @mauireallife 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is true, there are only 2 main hospitals on island and specialty care requires a trip to Oahu or in some cases the mainland. That said, we've been happy with services so far and great pediatric care.

For example: No rank tags are used on your videos And the videos are not uploaded full of SEO And your video SEO score is very low Sir, your channel will rank if you research the low competitor tag in your channel tag. If I ever move to Maui it would be Paia/Haiku. I can't stand the west side because the crazy tourism and amount of hotels/golf course, etc. The issue about the islands are these: It's super expensive, if you do not have a job or in retirement, after one month you might get extremely bored if you do not have anything to keep you busy. Too small and super slow. The locals might look at you funny and there is discrimination about the mainlanders. It's not so bad in my case because I am a windsurfer and look more like a local person by skin color but it's there. That said. The weather is beautiful, the island is amazing and I love the vibe. I love to visiting it, I have been there a dozen times, many friends there and it's a magical place. My favorite Hawaii island but usually after a month or so, I am ready to leave and get excite to return later.

      Hands down I'd do it again despite it being expensive. I love it here, and never had any question about it. If it's worth it to you, you find a way to make it work. If you are 9-5 at a job it can be very difficult to get by comfortably. I've been self employed one way or another most of my career so I'm not scared of doing the hard work and finding opportunities. But every person is different and if you could live somewhere with a lower cost of living and make enough to come here 4x a year that might be good enough.

      Mainland or online banking companies can do mortgages in Hawaii if they are licensed in Hawaii. But it's almost universally recommended to work with a local lender to avoid disappointment later. I've seen them work, but I've also seen them crash and burn when they run into atypical underwriting conditions like CPR and "condotels."

      We really don't know what will happen with the changes. It's expected that if the bill becomes law it will face legal challenges that could go on for years. Right now people can continue to do short term rentals. A few are selling, though not a lot of buyers because of the uncertainty.

      The county is conducting a feasibility study that will truly reveal the detrimental economic impact which heavily outright any potential benefits. I really love the Island of Maui, especially Lahaina (what is not existing currently) and Kapalua. I was visiting several times, because I was hooked on the lifestyle and the climate. Otherwise, I've to say, that there are many beautiful vacation places in this world. I personally love the Maledives and the Seychelles, not so crowded, and so much nature. Unnecessary to say, that you need a lot of money to take a vacation on Maui. My husband and I spent nearly 30k for 14 days, of course it included 12 nites at the Lahaina Shores and we went to restaurants every day. I did some good shopping too in exclusive paintings. Anyway, this world has great places to enjoy a beautiful vacation. Just to everybody, keep all the opportunities worldwide in your mind. Much ALOHA. 😂❤

    Hey Josh what an amazing video. The Top Lists were spot on so I will of course validate it from our experience over the last 4+ years. We feel as if we were embraced by Maui so we are totally in sync with the culture, land, and lifestyle. Often while driving in Kihei I will see a “neighbor” sitting at an intersection trying to gain access and so I flick my car lights so they can cross in front of me. Most times the locals get it, unfortunately the visitors won’t and will not be aware of this hint. But that spirit of Aloha - so bra take it easy, no hurry, etc is all part of the life here. That would be a fun video to do - what really is Aloha and how do we show it to one another here on Maui (I.e., driving, shopping, beach smiles/greetings). Great no an AMAZING video. Can’t wait to see more… Thanks.

      Yeah I imagine there are similarities, though I think your traffic is a whole different level than ours :) As far as taxes we have just under 5% excise tax on goods, income taxes, and tiered property taxes. Property taxes are some of the lowest in the country, but it depends on your use (short term rental class rate is 4-5x that of owner occupied).

    I am Maui'an, and a Hana Tour Guide, but Maui is NOT smaller than Oahu; the islands are actually in exact order of size, yet in contrast to their age, ergo BI (Hawaii) is the largest, but youngest, and Kauai the oldest but smallest......Population is grim contrast to size of islands: Oahu holds about 95% of HI-population = 1.14 mio. vs. 1.4 mio in total.

      100% correct, when I say smaller I meant by population, and yeah it's not even comparable!

    Hawaii has 21 army installations that they no longer need, these installations should be turned over to the Hawaii people for living space.

      We definitely need some more creative solutions to deal with the housing shortage. Maui doesn't have much military presence but there are other ways the government could support more affordable housing.

    How many golf courses are on Maui and where are they located?

      Hey great question! I know there are at least a dozen sprinkled around the island, google says 14 :) There are several great courses in Wailea, the Maui Nui Golf Club in Kihei, Waiehu Municipal Course near Kahului, the private Maui Country Club on the north shore, the Pukalani course Upcountry, Kaanapali Royal, and the famous PGA course at the Kapalua Plantation, plus a few others. Hope that helps!

    Aloha from Makawao. My wife and I just recently moved here from to be with her family Colorado. One thing we’ve loved moving here is being able to still have mountains (being from Colorado it can be kind if depressing if you are in a place where you can’t see mountains), but not having winter temperatures is so nice. Also for us the monitory side of things seems the same to us because Colorado is also very expensive but the wages for our jobs here actually pay significantly better.

      Aloha Caleb! Moving from the northwest my family also loved the combination of mountains and ocean that we had before. The water is much more enjoyable here though :) It's nice to be able to find the climate you want, or even go "chill" at the top of Haleakala.
