A Typical Railfanner in SC
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 27 มิ.ย. 2012
Welcome to my channel. I am a railfan in South Carolina (SC for short). I mainly film trains in the Spartanburg County area. Hope you stick around for a while and even consider subscribing. Videos are not really edited very intensely, as this is merely a hobby. I’m going to be a full time employee (not for the RR) soon after graduating college, so this is something I cannot put too much time into. I just take the videos and upload them as is. I am around mainly Class 1 railroads, NS and CSX. So, please don’t expect to see short line railroads. All the short line railroads I know of are fairly vast distances away from my home in Spartanburg, so you can expect mostly videos from NS and CSX, more so NS because they are more active in my area.
NS 28R Races NB through Duncan, SC with an ACe Leader & a Long Train!!
Recorded 12/14/2024 at 11:22 am. Very good power on this 28R! They sure were racing up this hill, weren't they? I was pretty excited when I saw them round the curve at such a quick speed. Of course, they would slow down a little bit as they went more upgrade. Gravity is a thing after all. Since NS hardly DP's 28R anymore, it makes sense that this train would slow down up these steeper hills through the area. Anyways, I came out for another one of those 099 oddball tanker runs headed for Eastman Chemicals. I was initially going to catch that one at Wellford but, since I heard that they'd be holding at Lyman for 28R here, I decided to go on ahead and snag 28R as well down in Duncan. I still want decent speed! I wouldn't have gotten that on 099 as they were slowing to a stop. I got every bit of track speed from 28R though! Hope you all enjoy the video, along with the nice & long horn blows of that splendid K5LLA!

Recorded 12/10/2024 at 12:15 pm. Only reason I came out for this 18D was due to me expecting a different leader, 8162. The TO (Trip Optimizer) is typically better on the ES44ACs (on this line at least) than the AC44C6Ms. I would later find out that that's not truly the case anymore later on (you'll see a video on that). Nice catch! Very nice seeing those articulated racks again. What you mentioned about crews timing out is really what concerns me, especially with how 243 has been so late frequently. In a way, I was glad 243 had the higher priority than 18D yesterday.
That’s a unique C6M i thought i was tripping on the numbers cause I thought my quality was bad😂
@@Random_Sh9945 Yeah that 4544 on the engineer’s side was cheaply written on there! On the conductor’s side the unit # is weathered pretty bad too. Thanks for watching.

@@LetsGoChaseThatTrain Thanks!
It really sucks that NS just had to make auto control be enforced. I don't know why an ES44DC pair couldn't get 243 in track speed when you got it in Pacolet, while years ago,it's leading going track speed.
@@joshpack7330 It all comes down to corporate greed, Josh! Save money on fuel and equipment, cut employee pay, save save save EVERY penny wherever possible for these gosh dang shareholders. If upper management (executives) do this, then that means they get rewarded with bonuses! There’s no accountability anymore, and this is corporatism in full effect. It’s not just the railroads that are being affected by it in this country. Our people in power just do NOTHING about it bc they’re right there in cahoots with ‘em!
@anscrailfanner6812 So they'd rather take bonuses rather than trying to run a railroad decently? SMH... I was seriously hoping NS would improve, but it's just being downgraded and being worse every year. I feel sorry for the employees who work for this company. It won't be long until NS gets so caught up in this cooperate greed, the outcome will be hard to get out of. Same for the ones who keep letting this even happen. I don't know when that outcome happens, but I do know it's going to happen eventually.
@@joshpack7330 Yep, this is the sad state of the business world now. It’s always been about the investors behind closed doors but, now it’s just so blatantly obvious to everyone.
Hello❤❤

Hey I think it was you who was talking about trying to get a scanner feed for the Greenville District going. I've been thinking about it a lot and the best I can think up is this. I do rail photography and can provide the photos for a calendar or any other form to sell to make some money for this effort.
Those are my 12 best heritage unit shots for this year. I can donate the photography. It would have to be a print on demand type thing with drop shipping. I don't want to handle any money on this. I can provide the photos. So if you're interested, this is what I can do to help

Aww man, that would've been a good 237 to get. I wonder what train got abolished that day. I definitely miss when the 60Es were still in road service.
Thanks for watching, Josh. No train got abolished that day, as this was merely just a block of freight tacked onto 237. It happened maybe a few times. I primarily miss the uni-level auto racks that always used to be up front.
Nice catch! I was hoping this train would be a better size, since we had somehow got lucky to get good sized 243s and 237s with special units or very rare foreign power. But, it wasn't the case this time.
Thanks Josh. I don’t think 243 will ever grow in size until the completion of this intermodal rail terminal in Charleston. It’s being built on an old navy base, and supposedly CSX will have access as well. Right now it’s slated to open some time mid to late next year.
@anscrailfanner6812 You're welcome. I'm hoping that will be the case for 242 as well. Don't you think that's a bit weird 243 was a good size back in the day, and now it has to rely on a new terminal to get back to normal again?
@@joshpack7330 It’s a variety of things contributing to 243’s reduction in size, but the main things I believe are PSR and our leaders we’ve had in office as of late. Both political parties haven’t been good for anyone. Neither has truly been FOR the people, as they’re just catering to big business aka “the rich.”
@@anscrailfanner6812 Agreed. I'm really not that certain if that new terminal will increase the size, but we shall see.
Nice catch! I love seeing the train just keep on going, with it not seeming like it's not going to end. Love seeing it being over 200 buckets!
@@joshpack7330 Thanks for watching Josh. The train size was very good, absolutely. Only thing that needs to be different is the power, and I’d be truly satisfied! Hate this auto control on these C6Ms.
@anscrailfanner6812 Yep. Crazy how modernizing the Dash 9s turns them slower.

@@joshpack7330 Thanks Josh. Honestly, I’m not sure on that myself. 283 train-wise is still a nice looking intermodal train with the variety of containers, so losing the BNSF run-thru power isn’t too detrimental. 283 is definitely more enjoyable than 24X and 28R, at least in my book.

Nice catch! Plus, you can still hear the awesome EMD rumble of the unit while it was passing too! When I heard that horn, it sounded just like the ones on the SD70IAC variants. My guess is that when the unit was in storage, the horn was replaced with a newer one. I know 1050 also had a newer horn as well, when I saw it lead 242 one time. Either way, I was so happy seeing an ACe on 18D as well. I was so upset that the ACe wasn't on 18D yesterday, and was replaced with C6Ms. Honestly, the only reason I even got that 18D was just to measure the time hearing the horn after passing Magnolia.

@@joshpack7330 Thanks Josh. Whenever I have time, I will definitely be trying to get these lashups without C6Ms present. That auto control has really gotten on my nerves. My excitement when watching trains has always came from fast speed. In the modern day that’s unfortunately uncommon on NS, at least in this part of their system, which irritates me!
@@anscrailfanner6812 Me too. It would be nice seeing the eastbound trains arrive earlier than 45 minutes. Trains that go over that time, I expect there to be an issue, maintenance happening somewhere on the W, or a heat speed restriction. But slow EVERY day? Come on now!
Very nice catch! I appreciate the heads-up of this train not getting too held up by the hi-railer, because I definitely would've either missed it, or would've been close to it and being in a bad spot.
@@joshpack7330 Thanks for watching, Josh. Yeah np. That’s what we railfans have to do here in the modern day. Updates when trackside are crucial, especially on lines that are not 100% signaled like ours.
Nice catch. To be honest, I honestly feel that customers should put a say towards their delayed shipments, or else, no change will happen. Put their frustration on the news, something, so it can be heard by everyone. It might not do much, but at least everyone's aware of the lousy service the class ones are bringing in. About those C6Ms, I wonder why units like 4101 and 4141 were stored for a long time. Then again, the only time I like the C6Ms now is if they are shiny or there's something special about them. 4144, 4822, 4006 with RS5T, and the rebuilt ex-BNSF Dash 9s, and soon to be AC4400CWs. Other than that, they're just "basic locomotives".
@@joshpack7330 Thanks Josh. The AC44C6M, which is supposed to be a “modern” upgraded dash 9W, is nothing more than a junker. They shake and rattle terribly, and this auto control is horrible. It makes trains run so unbearably slow. If ONLY shippers knew the BS NS has been pulling.
@@anscrailfanner6812 How I wish. Oh how I wish...
What I find strange is also that 27A has like no empty cars daily and 28R on some occasions will carry almost a whole train empty
@@scandncarearailfanner4886 It simply comes down to the fact that more is shipped out from the north. More cargo, likely of higher quality as well, comes down from the north to the south. That’s a big reason why 27A typically hauls more tonnage than 28R.
I feel like the es44dc’s are more reliable in terms of a faster speed in all honesty
