Our ABANDONED Volvo 850 GLT to BTCC HERO?
It is rusty, but this is what an old Japanese car looks like..
Yes, save it, get a new tank and filler neck and get it running. Of course you should fit a temporary fuel supply just to test that there are no other expensive issues with the ignition system. No point in restoring the car but it is worth saving and getting another few years our of it.
Im afraid digging in to it and stuff brake cause of the rust and turning in to a money pit. But you got a good point.
You do need a BTCC spoiler for the boot lid!
Indeed! got one, but needs some mods to fit
Well done, good job, great looking car!

have used the bsr's before on the volvo me7 t5's. audi's would be my next choice after volvo, have driven a rs6 c5,c6 and c7 (all mapped), friend has a c7 tdi bi-turbo which is quick. personally i only do banger economics, which means i only buy cars i can afford to scrap, so for audi would consider a6 c6 3.0 tdi.
Awesome! would love to try out RS6, but seems out of reach for now. Sounds really good, I kind of have the same mind set, I don't wanna have any loans on my cars.
Could you tell me where you bought the vinyl please? Thanks.
@@mekesuarez Creative Vinyls, I think it’s a uk site. Im very pleased with it
Heyy, is the rear diff stock? maybe just welded? epic build....
Stunning car, looks so good coming out of the garage. Well done, great job. 👍👍
👌
Great job, I'm going to paint my old truck the same way !!
Good vid man. Good too see the car looks painted, as an Australian this just simply wouldn't work with our climate. Nice job now just needs some rims and all set ready to go.
That is such an iconic and a really awesome car to own. Especially with the 5 speed manual transmission. I also like the Saabs as well. My first car was a 1996 Saab 900 S.
Good job. Regards from vinyl specialist. I have been doing vinyls 16 years now and it was nice to see how much you adjust your installing technique in few vinyl pieces. I agree that second side is easier and faster. I can only imagine how much struggle you have with first door handle. =)
Thanks man! Means alot to hear from a pro. The razor and heater gun became good friends of mine :D
Love this look ! Great job ! ps : from France :)
Merci! ;)
Grymt bra jobbat! roligt att se alla framsteg.
Tack som fan, betyder mycket att höra! kul att du tittar.
looks amazing, get rid of the rear mud flaps if allowed. will look even better when on a set of btcc like alloys.
Yes the wheels will make it a thousand times better, soon! Really appreciate you watching and commenting the videos, cheers Matthew
@dkthorn your welcome, good to see 850 content on TH-cam, and often a project I've wanted to do myself. Just finishing up putting an 850r back on the road, then need to do my other that was my daily 12 years ago. Then maybe I can do a btcc replica from the wife's old 850 t5 estate parked up in the garden!!!
@@matthewwiddows6319 Sounds awesome, you should do it!
My dad painted his car in 1976 with underlay car paint on the body went rock hard Then when Hammerite paint came out he had a load given to him on one of his paintings contract But they decided not to use it So he painted his 2 Ford capri With it.
Try not to rush the job....
In 1990 I painted a van with Red with black accents in oil base outdoor paints. Masked it nice and did a couple black racing stripes on hood and line fade to the rear on sides. It came out AMAZING, that is for $30 worth of paint it was awesome. My friend is a professional /custom car painter airbrush artist. Whenever i would drive that thing over he would compliment me , then say, NAH just fckn with ya , its HORRIBLE WTH why didnt you call me?...I have base and clear epoxy by the gallon dude WTF dumbazz...and other nice things friends say when your a dork. I still think it came out nice, almost no drips .(if you squint.)
Thats awesome! Im suprised that it turned out as good as it did, and like you said, for like very cheap
dosnt look that bad on camera, you could flat sand and then polish.
the camera makes it look better, even though it's ok, you cant really see the texture in the video. Im gonna try and show in upcoming videos how it look close
@dkthorn when you can afford to go paint gun setup it will be better, just need a cheap compressor, lvlp gun, gun reg, gun water filter and that's it. I sprayed my 850r from bumper with 2k black direct gloss, can out better than I could have hoped.
@@matthewwiddows6319 I will most certainly do that next time. The 2k makes such a different to
just started watching an thinking noooooooo!!!
Awesome build! Whats the color of the chassis called?
Nice!
cool build
ideally you need to test on another 850 to see what is normal.
It is easy to remove the wiper motors. It is easiest to unbolt the plastic slam panel/front mask and push it out a bit to make remove to remove the wiper. The left side is easier, there is room when you take out the battery.
Rims look good, very touring car.
Wouldnt worry, probably just moisture, engines for these must be conmon in sweden, and with you lift a very easy job to drop whole subframe with engine, and replace.
Shouldn't worrie too much about it. I saw the car was outside in the snow, it could certainly be just moisture which entered the engine.
Im hoping this is the case, seems like it
hopefully if it a problem with water in the oil it is an easier problem to fix, was going to say it could be a head gasket, but i see you already replaced it. also those wheels are nice
Spoiler looks really good. regards the radio, ideally get a sc-901, they sound much better than the stock sc-801 in the 850. have done this upgrade myself in my car. how do you get the code from the number on top of the radio?
I will take the serialnumber and go to Volvo, pay a fee then i'll get a code. That's what I've been told. Cheers!
let me know if it works, i have a friend that can get them from the vehicle reg, didnt know they may be able to do from the stereo@@dkthorn
funny, just had to do this on my 850r. when i bought it the r bumper was badly damaged and had cracking paint from previous paint job. have to sand back to bare plastic, repair cracks and paint. but as i didnt know how to paint had to learn how to use a gun, 2k paint. took many weekends over the summer to sort. but finally done and back on the car.
keep these videos coming. have just got my 850r manual back on the road and loving being back in a petrol (10 years of volvo d5). yes motivation can be hard, but i like to do one job at a time, last weekend was subframe bushes, this weekend - front engine mount, coolant flush, coolant bottle and level sensor, few turn on actuator. luckily we have not had snow where i am in the uk, loads of rain though!!!
Love it!
I had the same problem with not having the motivation to work on the car, that's ok man. Doing jobs on the car should be fun and there's nothing wrong with taking a break. Right now i am back at it and try do work on it for 1 hour max a day and that works very well, sometimes i even extend that hour if i am feeling well :-) Nice job and i am looking forward to your next one!
Glad to hear you´re at it again. Like u say, it's suppose to be fun. Then there's other things like heping friends and family with their cars, and my wifes car had to be fixed so there's been alot in the way for me also. Really glad to hear you like the videos, cheers man!
my dream car, only missing sunroof and theres no better car with better engine in the world, t5 sounds too good
Can you show how you moved the distributor to the front of the engine?
Nice car mate. Cant beat a 5 pot. Iv got a manta 400 rep i want to put a 5cylinder in. I cannot understand why more people don't use them in rwd
Did you do the valve stem seals and clean and lap the valves?
Love your project! What's the difference between this engine and the T5 of C30/S40?
Thanks man! Hmm, I don't dare to say, I think it's basically the same. There are some models with forged piston and such but maybe that's only the s60r.
Im an 850 guy (2x 850r's, 1x 850 t5 and 2.5 10v in the garden), but love the 740's. my dad had 2 and his last one was in the colour of yours but an estate. would love to have a 740 but rare and expensive now in the uk. have looked at 740 and t5, but to get the parts is hard in the uk now not like 10 years ago. enjoyed your 850 btcc videos and looking forward to more from your channel and sharing your knowledge.
That's so awesome. One of my favorite cars to this day is the 850, just can't help to love them :) Thank you, means to hear! Makes me wanna continue with the videos, cheers
Nice 740, what color is that?
It takes some bravery to do such job on the engine and you sir, did it very well!
Love this
Great build my friend. I've recently got My 1986 740 red block up and running using 4 x 42mm pwk bike carbs! she runs well too, great pulls up to 100mph! ; - )
That’s a lot of work. I sure wish, my 850AWD, ran out the back. Is that a common conversion, in Sweden?
Im doing a similar setup but on my 93 850 glt. I might have some questions for you about the gearbox and clutch setup if you have any time for me!
