"This Is Why Your Team Isn’t Succeeding – Learn from Bologna"
Bologna FC, having been promoted to Serie A nine years ago, faced numerous challenges to reach their current status. Initially struggling to avoid relegation in their first two years, they spent the following four years mid-table. The team's foreign investors aimed to either make or break the club's history. Marco Di Vaio, who took up the role of sporting director in 2022/2023, appointed Thiago Motta as the head coach after Sinisa Mihajlovic. Motta, previously with PSG U19 and Spezia, led Bologna to 9th place in his first year, their best ranking since promotion.
Motta capitalized on key transfers, notably Joshua Zirkzee, a 22-year-old from Bayern Munich, who scored 12 goals and made 7 assists. Despite significant team deficiencies, Motta optimized the rotation and transformed Bologna into a tough, physical, and dynamic team. This transformation led to a top-four finish in the league, securing a Champions League spot.
Following the celebrations, Motta announced his departure to join Juventus, marking the end of a successful tenure with Bologna.
