The official TH-cam channel for the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes. Our channel features congregational events, spiritual retreats, reflections on ministries, and historical videos of our congregation.

Conversations of the Heart
This 6-week in-person series is open to the public. To ensure the conversation is made up of diverse identities and perspectives, there is an application process. Applications for the Fall 2024 cohort will be accepted until July 19. Applicants will be notified by August 1 if they will be part of this cohort. The group will be limited to 21 participants.

Each session will take place from 6-8 p.m. in Founders Hall at the CSA Motherhouse on County Rd K.
During these sessions, we will be using Parker Palmer’s book, “Healing The Heart Of Democracy: The Courage To Create A Politics Worthy of the Human Spirit.” As Palmer writes, “When we choose to engage, not evade, the tension of our differences, we will become better equipped to participate in a government of, by, and for the people . . .” In the course of these conversations, we will learn more about what it means:
To listen to each other openly and without fear, learning how much we have in common despite our differences
To deepen our empathy for the alien “other” as we enter imaginatively into the experiences of people whose lives are radically unlike our own
To hold what we believe and know with conviction and be willing to listen openly to other viewpoints, changing our minds if needed
To seek out additional facts and explanations whenever we find reason to doubt our own truth claims or the claims made by others, thus becoming better informed
To probe, question, explore, and engage in dialogue, developing a fuller, more three-dimensional view of reality in the process

The majority of people do not understand the religious life. It should also be remembered that the religious life is not for everyone. Society today is so selfish that the thought of giving up everything to devote one's life to Christ is abhorrent. "Take up your cross and follow me."
So many Novices and Postulants! How beautiful! That could not happen now. The birth rate is too low among Catholics

Please bear in mind while watching that these are actors, and that the young woman is not actually becoming a nun. It is a fictional highly idealized story whereas the reality could be very different, unhappily so. I have been a practising Catholic all my life, but saw many frustrated unhappy religious

The Bells of Saint Mary (1945) and The Nun's Story (1959): The Catholic Church and Her nunneries couldn't have asked for better propaganda films. Ten percent of my mother's HS graduation class of 1959, Little Flower in Philadelphia, joined the convent. Yikes.
Wonder what worthy pursuits 10% of the graduates are following now?

I was at the Vietnamese Dominican sister house in Houston, very traditional and wear gown; they are filled with young girls, leaving their family for God. I guess when you go “woke” you go “broke”, and filled with old people.

Nostalgic days, never to be repeated. I remember them well. What were all those beautiful young girls thinking as they entered the novitiate? Giving up a life of being a wife and mother! That simply wouldn't happen these days. So save this video to remember the way it was.
Same reason we don't drive model-Ts or wear bloomers! An era gone by.
You're wrong. It's still happening, though certainly not in the numbers we had before. The communities that are attracting these young 'uns have kept their traditions, and those are very few.
@@jghfamily6104 I should have added that many smaller congregations of women thrive these days in traditional habits but are usually cloistered. These will continue but never on the scale of yesteryear.
We have a very large community of traditional young nuns on my block in nyc! And young friars too
