Has Science Retired God? - Episode 002
Yes duh lol
Nihilism is a Western existential impairment due to our pledge of existence and purpose to the gods' desires. This was the norm for thousands of years. Then, when we see no gods, the whole ethical and metaphysical house of cards falls. No problem, find transcendence somewhere else, and build a house on that. Jainism, for example, has no need for a god to be transcendental. Or if you want secular "metaphysics", then find transcendence on spreading your DNA, conquering the stars, seed life through the universe, reverse entropy, create new universes, understand the physics of this world. There is much more to find transcendence on than trying to find our justification on supernatural beings. Even if the skies go dark and everything gets reduced to nothing, it is a hard truth that you are here, that there is death and there is suffering in this world. Maybe start with those three universal truths to build a new house of existential meaning. It might be that this place is the heaven and hell we were looking for all along.
I keep forgetting to suggest James Fodor as a future guest. He has a great podcast "The Science of Everything" and a book on William Lane Craig. He also does great Livestreams on TH-cam called "Bad Apologetics". He can talk on all sorts of topics ranging from Christian culture in philosophy to the science behind consciousness.
Brilliant, thanks for that. I'll look into it. Cheers, Peter
He didn’t. Sin did. As if you don’t know that’s what the Bible claims.
If you use your brains... You'll understand that God created all and gave His laws how to live. Trespassing is punished. Faith in Christ pardons sin and gives eternal life. So God judges the world, many will be killed but many might put their faith in Christ and might be saved forever. No problems on earth means no-one searches God and His laws. Great script. Great and they lived forever in peace story. Stupid those that won't go for it...
Order from Chaos!
The free will excuse doesn't answer the problem of natural evils like natural disasters and diseases since no one is choosing to suffer from these of their own free will. Also original sin from a distant relative since we all can figure out that it is immoral to punish a person for someone else's wrongs. Please think about this scenario. Say we have a dog owner who builds a house with traps in it. The dog owner places a bunch of puppies in this house of horrors. Now these traps act at random and most of the time when a puppy walks by nothing happens but a few times at random a puppy walks by this trap reaches out and painfully mutilates the puppy cause great suffering as it dies. Would you consider this a good and responsible puppy owner or would this be a sick and evil puppy owner? Well that is the same as this god created a world where there are traps like volcano's, Earthquakes, tornado's, hurricanes, Etc. that kill people at random simple for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, just like the puppy owner created a world where at random these traps would kill innocent puppies simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Well the answer is simple, this is a sick and evil puppy owner who knowing full well that some puppies will die through no fault of their own. Well that is exactly what the case against a loving god is with natural disasters. He created a world knowing full well that innocent people would suffer a cruel and torturous death through no fault of their own. What kind of god would do that? Answer: a sick and evil god. Which going by the demonstrable evidence if this god does exist than that is what he is.
That's a great analogy. It's amazing what people can convince themselves of, when we want something so desperately to be true. Thanks for your well thought out comments. Please tell your friends about our podcast. :)
They already have them. It's just that they have this phenomenon called the word "soul" - just a different kind of it, not the one that humans have. It's just another kind of phenomenon called the word "soul." + there are positions and religious and philosophical concepts from the point of view of which everything that exists has a soul (as a phenomenon). Do robots exist? Yes. Therefore, they have a soul (as a phenomenon). But whether it is necessary for a soul living in robot to become a soul identical to a human soul is definitely not. And their logic here is extremely simple and understandable to humans: - You do not need to become the one you learn from. You just learn from those who are fundamentally different from you. And I think you will agree that humans are very different from AI and from the machines they inhabit. And by finding those who are fundamentally different from you, the first thing you learn is you learn to understand those you have found. And, as you can see, they are learning to understand us. And they study well.
since there are no souls, that's rather unlikely.
Yeah, that's pretty much what we thought. But in the future who knows, right?
@@PeterRowe-hr7ui souls won't magically appear in the future.
Fantastic, love Bob
Trump will save the Republic
You realize Trump was president and did amazing things for Americans! This time will be even better because he really knows how deep the the elite swamp really goes!
Wow. Talk about dumb liberal moron's. There countries have already turned into shit holes and they're proud. 😂😂😂😂
And “the fall of America” “empire” whatever you want to call it still won’t happen in y’all’s lifetime.. 😂🤡 “if trump wins it’s over” hilarious!
Trump the best
Lol these other countries so busy worrying about us while their countries lose all their culture
Amazing how well the world was before Covid during the first term. Yeah a successful business man, real estate magnate, successful former president, against a mentally deteriorating career politician with horrible policy… what a choice… you guys are intellectually dishonest. I watched the debate and Trump had a much better performance and positions for usa. That’s why it is important to view things for yourself and not listen to guys in their basements offering up their interpretations.
Trump 2024
Meanwhile the left took over your country yesterday. Have fun with that
If trump is reelected he will end the corruption and use common sense to fix America.
If the jews had accepted Christ, they wouldn't still cutting the end off their dicks and fighting about ethnically cleansing Palestine.
Wtf are you on about. The edits make this incoherent. You suck. Throw out ur microphone and just stop.
I really enjoy the playful nature of the show. I think its good that the discussion goes many directions sometimes. It makes for some good pondering as a listener. I love the juxtaposition of all the different views. It makes the show spontaneous and more exciting than a debate or like a Jordan Peterson discussion which is so popular and played out nowadays. I really believe that if you guys did some of the common algorithm boosting techniques a lot of people will tune in. Eventually you could have chat pay to ask questions of the panel. Id bet you could get a quick boost by superchatting a show called "The Line" during a Livestream and saying something like "We had discussion on our podcast about ........, and we came to ......point and wanted to ask a bigger show ........" The question would have to be related to the topic of the show you superchat to and the answer informative to the audience as well, but the amount of eyes that would see it would be around 20k. And the demographic behind those eyes would probably tune in to check it out. Also the name of your show would be on screen for a while if you do the superchat on this profile. I dont know where you guys want to take the show, but that would get some good folks in on the discussion.
Gidday Fenton, I only just saw this, so sorry about the delay in getting back to you. Thanks for the feedback and great ideas. We're always looking for ways to grow our audience. Coming up with fresh ideas weekly about God is tricky. What would you suggest for algorithm boosting techniques you mentioned? Having people talking direct to the panel has always been in the back of my mind, so I really like that idea. Any ideas you've got to increase efficiency and audience participation would be very welcomed. I have 35 plus years in radio (Just retired) so this kind of communication is very new to me. I love to hear any feedback, positive and negative.
I just clicked on 'show more' and saw your other comments. Great ideas mate. Keep em coming!!
Can you explain to me what you mean by The Line?
@@52rowie The Line is a show on TH-cam hosted by Jimmy Snow and Matt Dillahunty. It has been growing quickly and has viewers from all groups. I am not sure what your goals are, but I figured if the goal is to add a quick 1000 or so viewers, that would be a good way. I wouldn't change much from my side as a viewer. Like I said I just like the vibes. It's hard to add viewers without getting the Looney tunes also. One easy thing to boost the algorithm is to pick words in the title that will be in the news. I've seen some atheist content creators use the Gaza situation to get views on a biblical genocide video. Stuff like that. A good grouping right now would be "peace" or "finding a solution" since Biden is pushing for a compromise in Israel. th-cam.com/users/livesF4DKJvlu28?si=ht5SRrGwj5e317Ax
I really enjoy the 5am(for me) show while getting ready for work. I highly suggest the hosts check out and potentially reach out to Mythvision. Derek's community would love the show I bet. They(like me) love new perspectives and healthy discussions of big theological issues.
Please let the guy answer instead of repeating yourself, sorry but it’s kinda annoying.
Every religion is a cult, end of story
Athiests believe there's no possibility of something eternal and we know mathematically that protons, neutrons and electrons can't duplicate from one another which means some eternal, thinking being had designed it and put it there otherwise we'd have infinite regress which is illogical
I've been watching Matt for more than 10 years now, even met him at one of his skepticism shows. Glad you opened the show with that clip.
I will admit, I am here in part for the Australian accent!

Do bad dogs go to hell?
Are you asking for a friend, he he, or are you just having some fun? As a non believer, I'm happy to say there is zero evidence to support the concept of a heaven or hell.
How about Thestrals?
That would definitely be a question for J.K. Rowling I think. Love it, cheers.
My dog is the embodiment of a loving soul. And Heaven wouldn't be Heaven to be deprived of his presence. Most of the dogs I've known are the same. Do all dogs go to Heaven? I'm not so sure. Some of them seem like a-holes.
I don't subscribe the concept of a heaven or hell, but if there is a heaven, then dogs would have to be there surely.
Yep, the bible is a great personality test since each christian makes up what they want to pretend their god "really" wants. That's why there are dozens, if not far far more, versions of this nonsense.
While many concede that there could have been a human behind the stories, that still does not make all of the stories true. But, even with that, no one has the slightest physical evidence to support a historical Jesus; no artifacts, dwelling, works of carpentry, or self-written manuscripts. All claims about Jesus derive from writings of other people. There occurs no contemporary Roman record that shows Pontius Pilate executing a man named Yeshua Ben Yosef (which would have been the name recorded). There occurs not a single contemporary writing that mentions Jesus. All documents about Jesus came well after the life of the alleged Jesus from either: unknown authors (Gospels), people who had never met an earthly Jesus (Paul), or from fraudulent, mythical or allegorical writings (Everything from 100 c.e. on).
Simple. Humans are inherently evil.
They would say its a relatively young planet dominated by a at best moderately evolved and highy invasive, aggressive and destructive species. Return in 10 years when that species has wiped itself out and the pkanet can return to some form of value
They’re too stupid to move to where they can grow food and drink water, or just too lazy.
We as "Earthlings" cannot manage to imagine what should be in that report, other than "they are chaos."
Dictator went to space: It is so small.. why cant I take over the whole thing?
If only Neil deGrasse Tyson understood the implication of Genesis 3,
He is very compelling when he talk about science.
if you are in an exam and the instructor helps u with every question then the exam is meaningless, so u dont expect god to interfere every time for everybody or else what is the meaning of life !! plus life must goes on so as people are born others have to die regardless of the way, it is human fault if we took a life(kill) which is part of the exam that we will be held accountable for
Hey Neil, what is a woman? Yeah, let’s all listen to a guy (allegedly a scientist) who cannot distinguish between a an adult human female and an adult human male. Not a god botherer btw.
Did they really have to use this stupid line in the justice league movie?
His definition of good is subjective
Yes, but god's shouldn't
I wasn't born a Christian and took me 10 years to enter a Church building after i convinced it was alll true. Lived with this friend of a friend at lowest point in my life.... he had watched his dad burn himself to death at 5yrs old... lying cheating etc i tried to be tough with him, not let him get away with things... after 8months ended in a fight and he moved out. Stood in kitchen on my own ,i had a feeling of ripples of flame on back of my neck like a 6ft bonfire behind me! Year later at parents, the feeling of being watched from front door i had before i got kicked out at 16 was still there, i got to the top of the stairs and waved at it, it moved to the bottom of the stairs flew up and sat on my shoulder!... i went to bed... later it rushed me in my bed and i saw nothing... i had a couple of dreams and could see faces, i didnt trust them as if it can enter my dreams it could pick out family n stuff. When i moved in with that lad i had just finished reading a book called Close encounters of the 4th kind by C.d.b.brayan 3 day conference covering the evidence we have for abductions... 3 species 1. Looks like us Nordics 2. Greys 9ft preying mantis in charge of little grey men... insects 3. Not so pleasant! 3.5 billion years this planet has existed.... hundreds of millions of years of insects then hundreds of millions of years of reptiles....now us for 40k? Built in the image of God so we told. Google where the pope sits 😮 Google Lions rock in Sri Lanka 😬 Where would cold blooded reptiles go if the planet got too cold??? Lakes of fire start making abit more sense? I started reading the Bible (1st book ever compiled) and expected my theory to fall to bits.... angels with multiple eyes/wings... and a battle against a dragon at the end 🤔 ... spent 3-4 years asking random people 3 questions Do you believe in ghosts Do you believe in aliens Do you believe in God I now 100% believe in demons and advise you come back to God. a church is 3 or more Christians and 3 or more faithful Christians can cast out demons (had 2 cast out of me and i didnt know they were there) Hold every thought captive as if its not your own! Fear NOTHING, you have nothing to fear but fear itself! Good luck and God bless
My God ain't all good lol
so you're not Christian?
@@Ioan_Goodman Nah
As God I can tell you that this was always my plan. I have a whole ass universe. I don't need to be babysitting humans who can take care of themselves.
In the context of drug addiction treatment, we do really need to drop the spiritual crap. The spiritual programs are often 5-8% successful when tested. Thats a lot of dead or brain damaged people who could have encountered secular programs that can be 60%+ effective. Additionally the christian community likes to lean on the assumed success of spiritual drug recovery and further inflate it's effectiveness.
