I have lots of African friends and over the years this is something that's always puzzled me; this feeling of obligation to send money back home to relatives, who live in a lovely warm country where you don't have to work hard, you don't need a lot of money to live the good life, they eat fresh food every day, some even have a servant working in their house, they expect their hard working relative living in an expensive country like the UK where it's freezing cold and wet during the winter where life is expansive and hard jobs are hard to find and when you've got one they really work you, no sunshine, no fresh food, where nothing is easy.
Lol, hilarious the smoke detector beep had me rolling.
I’m Trinidadian. We used to send barrels down to Trini every year. Even when we visit, we’d hear “what you bring foh meh?”. Mind you they’re living better than us in the USA. Although the basic living needs is easier in a lot of these countries but I know the nicer 5:40 things in life is harder like an iPhone/luxury cars.
I say countries need to charge a 80 percent tarrif (at least) on all money orders being sent outside of the country where they are making pennies. Also charge them a “squatter tax” of fifty percent of their earni vs (at least) and have it taken automatically..and they get higher rents and no access to any government assistance or schools. Then they will deport themselves back to their home countries to fix their own messes that they created.
Now do one about swimming!
This lady use to do my hair..crazy talented but nasty attitude...jealous..rough..and a bully..i learned how to do my own hair at 17..sometimes its necessary and its the gift that keeps on giving all through life ❤
Stunning 😍
They do this in England too, huge groups playing music, apparently the rural areas need this enrichment.
can a withe person do exactaly same video? asking for a friend
People in the Caribbean get money from us. I said to just send a little every month. Otherwise my spouse gets into these long extended conversations, and they have 'an emergency every week'. The thing is ... we can't verify or debunk the stories. Hence my recommendation is just a fixed amount every month. I think that the spouse is figuring it out.
I watched a movie once that had a female character who was a prostitute. She had her own apartment but was estranged from her family. It turned out that she was sending money to the family because they had been very poor, but they ostracized her because she was a prostitute. She had sent enough money for them to live in a better house and start a business and have food every day but they wouldn't talk to her because of how she made the money she sent to them. She said she keeps sending it because she still loves her mother. I was floored.
Aint no grape soda in the wild.
This sending endless money to "family" is something that catches plenty westerners by surprise when they marry someone from this kind of countries.
The chirp of the smoke detector was a great touch.
I used to work in the casino business in Las Vegas. I worked with people from every corner of the world. I knew people who were sending over half of their paycheck back home to her family & her husband would send half of his paycheck to his family. I told her I thought she must be a financial genius to have at least a 3-6 month emergency fund, keep up with their bills & have money put away for their 2 kids college fund. On our next break, she said "I think I need to talk to you. We don't have any of those things."
Here’s the deal, if your economy sucks you get to try to move and find a better one. If you don’t risk that move for a better economy why should you benefit?
hillwalking Scotland never seen black person
Racist scumbag.
White people hiking should be riding the mobility scooter around an air conditioned walmart.
america sends money everywhere except for its own coffers.
We gotta stop sending money back home and go as far as to just cut them off. Times are tuff but your own extended family doesn't care if your struggling, they just want you to send them shit and help them when they get into the states but won't work a damn job for that long. Pick the family you like and try to help them but only them. If they know you but you don't know them, don't care about them. If you do, it might fuck you over.
I’ve seen a black dude once. And he was the only one a group of white fiends.
I don’t get why blacks don’t like hiking. Hiking is awesome lol
Beautiful 🥺🤩
not funny
As a Multi-generation American, It's good to hear this.
My friends who do dirt work were driving through a rich white historic neighborhood one afternoon. They had a hispanic laborer with them. He finally asked, "where are they going?" He didnt understand why hordes of white people just wander around aimlessly.
Literally the same with my east european family now that my parents moved where we lived now, especially now that they also have the Euro and have been getting way more Western and the sane stores Pop up there. Years ago it was an access thing but now it isnt anymore. I remeber these deal of get the phone for 1€ and then be bound into a years long expencive contract, my cousin didnt get that and said but its only 1€, buy it and send it to me
Yup I held myself back from saving as much as I could while I was enlisted because I felt a huge burden to give my family money and gifts. Way too much enmeshment in African culture, it ended with me
My parents sent money back to Eastern Europe my whole life until their parents died. I remember how frustrated they were by it. They even tried to get my cousins started in life. You don't want them to starve but definitely it becomes a crutch and then they don't try on their own.
I think the root problem is a culture of people having kids to take care of them, instead of the other way around. When someone is expected to take care of their parents before their golden years, they’re also going to be expected to take care of anyone who is remotely related to them. This is what creates generational poverty and stagnation in a lot of our societies in Africa. That mindset really needs to be flipped culturally.
People taking advantage of an easy mark is cross cultural sadly.
My parent sent back money and now the country they sent back money now have a higher standard of living.
Some people need to stay home. Especially the entitled ones who do it to flex “for the gram” and not to appreciate a foreign culture and people. 💯
SKKKKEEEEEET!!
Wtf is it with them lips?? gurl, that doesnt look right
This doesn't just happen in African countries but in almost every third-world country. Here in Lebanon, my grandpa (who is Lebanese but lives in Venezuela) is constantly asked by family members to give money to them and give up land just because he's financially comfortable, and then after sending them the money they stab him in the back and invade his properties.
Probably driving to a basketball court
I will send my mom money because she worked hard for us kids and I appreciate her.Not sending to anyone else
When a son must ask his Father for money he laughs, bht when the Father must ask his son for money BOTH WEEP- Does Africa not understand the concept?! And dont even start on the daughter having to be the breadwinner for all.
And that's why we die so much. :)
Y’all are silly
What i dont understand is why this cultural cancer still exists. Its easier to find work and a home in major African cities then it is across half of the USA. And if the west really was so easy to survive why dont they come themselves?
Good points! I’m one of the easy ones… To buy myself a £100 pair of shoes I’d count to a thousand trying to talk myself out of it. But then someone back home will ask for £180 Timberland and I wouldn’t even flinch, just get it straight away! Crazy that!
Saw this happening with a coworker from India. He was talking about how expensive living is; turns out he was sending loads home and his parents were asking for more to buy his brother a house.
Thank you for the deep insight you give me into the life situation of yourself and certainly of many other commuters between countries!
Ots killing the world economy. This is why I don't agree with mass migration. Nothing spent in the country they are living in. African culture is disturbing to me. Kids are their pensions.
Why is that woman moisturising herself in front of the camera? Enough already. Talk your talk but we don’t require you doing anything more.
It is not survivor's guilt, it is showing off and pretending that you are doing better, just because you are living in a better country
My friend from Georgia (the country) used to send money to his relatives back home every 2 weeks when he got a paycheck. One day, his relatives called him and asked if he could combine it and send it once a month instead, because it was a hassle for them to go to the bank twice a month to withdraw the money! Meanwhile, he is working his butt off while they sit around and complain that there are no good jobs. That was the breaking point for him.
