This is how you make an Australian of the Year award
Take a moment to admire the "mini-artworks" that are handed over to the winners.
The Australian National University is the proud cultural sponsor of the Australian of the Year (AoTY) Awards. The physical trophy is designed and produced by the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) School of Art and Design, before being presented to the state, territory, and national winners.
The awards were first designed and made in 2017 at the ANU Glass Workshop for the 2018 AoTY ceremony and CASS have been producing the trophies ever since.

Making al-Qa’ida legible: Interpretive methods, secrets, and mess
มุมมอง 17หลายเดือนก่อน
This seminar will explore two broad, but ultimately unreconcilable, understandings of what al-Qa’ida in Yemen ‘really is’: one legible, organisationally rational and thus governable; and one not entirely so. I’ll argue that the divergence between these two ontologies matters-and is even part of the group survives and reproduces. That’s because Western counter-terrorism practices target a stripp...
Interpretive Political Science as a Tool for Understanding Policy Making in Practice
มุมมอง 44หลายเดือนก่อน
Policy-making is an ongoing process of negotiation and mediation of meaning but this side of policy often goes unnoticed, made up of ‘hundreds of practical judgments, the everyday, taken-for-granted-routines and practices’ (Wagenaar). This research draws on key concepts from Bevir and Rhodes’s interpretive political science to bring to light how traditions shape this process of meaning making w...

We need to start considering the ability to provide Aboriginal knowledge of the land and all the elements in it as "Common Sense" and good practical knowledge that can actually make suppression/containment more relevant. Getting the right people in the room with local knowledge has always been a challenge (regardless of skin colour), we need to start these discussions in the Bush Fire Management Committees first! To do this we need commitment for the long game from individuals both Fire agencies and Local Aboriginal Land Councils.
