Thanks for the content suggestion. It's always a difficult one to advise generically. This will require specific weaknesses that need identifying. Nonetheless, I'll see what I can do.

Is your son in year 7 now? Sometimes, it would be that they need to settle down before you start thinking about tuition. Tuition is always going to be a positive thing, but you may want to wait for a few chapter test results to gauge whether you need to start now.

Sets are there to help you cope with the content at a pace that is good for your learning style. Are you finding the work in set 3 easy, hard or at the right level for you?

Ask your teachers for the scheme of work for year 9 and work through most of it if not all. Do topic by topic questions . Then go online and search “year 9 maths assessments uk pdf” and papers custom made for year 9 topics will come up. Take these tests fairly serious since they will determine year ten sets but don’t do a crazy amount of revision. 2 hours maximum in year nine near your end of years

For gcse further maths, you are ideally a grade 8 student in GCSE maths. However, this doesn't mean that you won't be able to do it with a grade 7. Most of the content is an extension of gcse maths topics.
