Fantastic work! I've fantasized about building a model of this monster ever since i saw the film back in the 80's. Glad you're going to put Manny on the roof of the Loco!
@jeffreybarton1297 Thank you! Same here the second I seen the movie I new i had to model these ghostly beasts!
@@midwestmodelrailroadworkshop I'm in the UK, and all the trains look like cute toys (for the most part). Your American trains are often brutal looking beasts. Love them 😎
@jeffreybarton1297 i did do another video on these showing them completed! It's shortly after I made this one. Had alot of interest so I showed the finished models.
The part you were pointing to with your tweezers is called a mechanical lubricator
@willknipe9491 Yes thank you I can never remember the names of the components when I'm doing a video lol
I was given a second athearn big boy. It has the older mrc but it meed some work. It's missing a hex bolt. And some bearings. My initial idea was to have it as a parts engine for the 4014 I am doing. I am on the fence. I lived in Cheyenne as a kid and would always go see 4004. So now I am thinking of makeing her 4004 and have both.
@joenewstead4848 That's a great idea! No matter how bad the condition is they can always be used for something, weather it's for parts or static display.
What paint are you using out of curiosity? Love the progress so far. 😊
@@joenewstead4848 Thank you! I primarily use two different paints for all my work, Polly Scale & Tamiya.
Really enjoying this series. Been years since I did any model RR stuff but brings back memories of when I worked in a hobby shop custom painting brass locos. I got to do a lot of customizing to match specific units much as you are doing now.
@anthonymiller8979 Glad you are enjoying the videos so far! I would love working in a hobby shop. Model railroading has been a life long passion of mine.
@@midwestmodelrailroadworkshop It was a lot of fun. This was in the mid 70s in Baltimore when I was in my early 20s.
I am currently working on a mrc 4023 version and updating it to 4014. I need to find a decoder but i got most of the parts. I have a extremely customized 844 that i have done. The version of my 844 is one of a kind.
@joenewstead4848 Very nice. Same here I've got an 844 along with all my Northerns that I've done alot of custom work to.
4005 is in a museum in Wyoming... also fun fact 3985 had white walls and white running boards while in storage at Cheyenne before restoration. She retained her white walls for a short bit after her restoration as a coal burner as well
@joenewstead4848 I have seen photos of 3985 with the white walls pre and post restoration. Definitely looked sharp. I looked it up after I made the video and it says 4005 is at the Forney transportation museum in Denver Colorado.
Do you have a layout, or something to run all your stuff, or you belong to a club?
@LourdesReynoso-x7p I don't currently have a layout. I used to have a layout and be a member of a couple clubs but I moved to a different state 6 years ago and there are no clubs near me and I haven't had the money to build a layout yet. Eventually I'll get to designing and building a layout.
What going on with the circus train, I starting to miss those trucks, and nice A-line wheels that are hard to find, would like to see you get back to that project..
@LourdesReynoso-x7p I have so much model railroad related stuff to work on that I need to give everything time or I fall way behind on things I want to get done. The carnival train will eventually make another appearance!
Looking forward to following this series
@@anthonymiller8979 Thank you for the support!
You have a great collection started!
@@troyb1733 Thank you!
I have toyed with the idea of making a shelf layout of a railroad museum like the one at Strasburg Pa and operations would all be moving locomotives in and out of the storage, display areas and shops. it would allow for a wide variety of locomotives, and I'd just used the shuffled card method of deciding what moves where for each running session. I like what you are doing here with the variants and exactly the kind of thing I do with my models.
@anthonymiller8979 That is fantastic plan you have. My museum will definitely have to be quite large to accommodate everything I want to do and will definitely be the main show piece. Also housing more than just UP equipment. I've had the idea of it basically being a fantasy museum in Cheyenne then when UP wants to restore something from it they will move it to the steam shops. Have it be two separate locations but within a close proximity to each other. Of course still alot to figure out but that's just my basic plan.
You've done some amazing work. Very impressive. I particularly like the red throats of the air horns! When you say you fixed up imperfections in the paint - what do you mean by imperfections? And how did you fix them?
@@kenneths3742 Thank you very much! Areas where paint was missed or chipped off. Any kind of imperfections like that.
The craftsmanship/modeling algorithm brought me here, but nice work on these locomotives. 10:00 is quite alarming. There is no way I'd have a costly museum-grade model and handle it with torn, raggedy sleeves, much less long sleeves of any kind. That's just asking for those horns or other greeblies to be knocked off.
@Hjerte_Verke Thank you! Normally I keep my sleeves rolled up or not have a long sleeve on but sometimes they fall down lol
INCREÍBLE TRABAJO
@@FERBGUNNERXX Thank you!
Great video, I have two scale trains turbines. My museum quality model I am afraid to take it out of the box.
I'm thinking about adding some led lights in my b units to show the internals a bit better. I think it would look cool. Great job on these and great tips on what I will do with my GTELs sometime.
@domstrains That is a fantastic idea and would definitely add to the interior! Thanks for the support and I hope some of what I did helps!
You need at least one of the #1-#5. They have a different front section.
Your collection of GTELs is envious. I only have one of them.
@farmerdave7965 Thank you! They are fantastic locomotives for sure!
Pretty authentic looking.
@@Slowgroovin Thank you very much.
Kadee doesn't make a lower shelf F coupler. The couplers you have are ok. If you remove the top shelf on the couplers you have, it makes them correct for the turbine. Well, close as correct as you can get with a Kadee. Just nip the top shelf off, file and sand flat. Touch the paint up and you're good to go. It won't damage the couplers doing this. This is what modelers that run Kadees are doing to make the Fstyle coupler The Sergent or now made by Prototypecouplescom are much more accurate in size and appearance if you go that route. They will also couple with a Kadee. You need the magnet wand to release the Sergent style couplers. Nice job on the Turbines!!
A grand collection of my personal favorite combo of power.

Great information. Keep your updates on the turbines coming!

Are you gonna use the passenger cars and get a marker on a flatcar
@rockyfanatic6846 i have the decals for the flat cars and I've got the late era passengers cars as well.
you will need a car with a marker and are you gonna do the passenger cars or not
@rockyfanatic6846 I've already got the late era passenger cars for the train. You can see them in some of my older videos I have on this project!
Is tamiya tape ok to use on your wires? I have never tried it. I use Kapton tape. Love the Turbines and always will.
@troyb1733 There are better tapes out there for that but I have alot of Tamiya tape and it works good enough.
Around 2008 I started collecting the Walthers circus stuff, ads, cars, clowns, people, brochures, rides. You name it I was finding it on ebuy and then I couldnt find any more. Its like it dried up. I worked with a guy at the U.P. heritage fleet who was a foreman on Barnum and Baily and he had some storys. Love all the circus stuff. I was always told to buy the car,the harley and all of your toys before you get married and have kids and it is true. I have a horn assbly. off of a 1997 -99 (not sure) G.E. loco. Where I worked in Council Bluffs,Iowa. The first thing we did was to bring in the locos and take off the horns so when we flipped the hoods open on top we didnt break one, well someone did and I got it. I hook it up to a air bubble or my compressor and freak out the neighbors.
Whats better than Train stuff and Metallica playing in the background"Nothing Else Matters"!!
@@troyb1733 Hell yeah!!

@midwestmodelrailroadworkshop I have units #1 & #6 but have not done anything with them yet. Your videos and changes have made it to my "to-do list"! So I deeply appreciate all your work.
@edwardmccarthy7665 That's awesome! Very happy that my videos inspired you to do some upgrades to your units!
U can afford all those trains but u can’t afford a tri pod or a go pro camera! Doesn’t make sense
@kenkerber-gl2ng it's not that I can't afford those things it's that I don't know how to use fancy cameras. I have a phone stand somewhere i just need to find it.
In the yard shot of the gp7s when manny first sees it , the 4th unit does have a horn but its closer to the winterrasionhatch
@ZombieSlayer-dj3wb yeah those units also didn't have the AAR-B Alco trucks either because those units they first showed were completely different from the units used throughout the majority of the film.
While you have your turbines apart.... You may want to consider upgrading the speakers so they sound better. They sound ok as is but Scale Sound systems makes drop-in speakers for the 8500 hp turbine that really makes them sand out. I use them in my turbines.
@@bryiansones150 Thanks for the info!
I bought an ATLAS MP 36. ATLAS did not even wire the Gyra lights up correctly. They wired both number boards and gyra light same. To fix the issue, had to separate the chase, and a extra plug. Now it works. Rapid had the same issues with BN GP 38.
@ronaldbrooks5982 Yeah sadly these companies don't have the best quality control sometimes.
No quality Control at the factory.
I wonder if they wired the motor wires backwards.😊
Where it's made?
@@grzegorzkolbrecki8344 These are made in China. Like everything else lol
Likely the great China.
i got a museum quality turbine, it loves to derail on switches and grade crossings, not to mention the tender trucks don't sit flat either.
@mike-a-boy4236 Alot of nice details around the trucks but some of them need to be repositioned to allow the trucks to move properly. Sometimes the wires can be bunched up where the tender trucks plug into and that can cause the trucks to not sit level.
So what are scale trains plans for how to deal with 100% tariffs on imports from China.
@pmsteamrailroading Not sure exactly but it could effect how many products they produce and the prices for that stuff going forward.
Do you think you'll ever have them all running at once? The sound will be awesome!
@pleiku887 eventually once I get a DCC system I'll definitely have them all running on my workbench! Definitely going to be loud!
