Welcome to Sma's Sky!
Fueled by a growing and lifelong passion for astronomy and growing up on the Space Coast, where rocket launches were a regular sight, I’m dedicated to exploring the night sky and beyond. My channel combines a love for space, technology, and hands-on building as I continue to refine my astrophotography setup.
Join me on live streams where I capture stunning views of the Sun, Moon, planets like Jupiter and Saturn, and even track man-made objects like the International Space Station. Using the Celestron Nexstar 4SE and Canon EOS M50, I bring you live sky views that evolve as I upgrade my equipment to improve the experience.
Whether you're a space enthusiast or simply curious about the universe, there's always something new to discover here. Subscribe to Sma's Sky to explore the cosmos together and share the wonders of spaceflight, human exploration, and celestial beauty with others!

What constellation are we looking at Sammy?
@@flatsfisherman4353 That was Pleiades or the 7 sisters.
Such great music Sam, Thanks
I’m back Sammy, where are you.
Yo yo yo
What’s up Sammy
I’m here Sammy
Oh bugger you're not live! 😋 At least I know that you're alive. Got a message from AL after the hurricane had gone over and he's ok, not sure about his home or anything. Seen some photos of the aftermath, not good. But it could be a case of the news people selecting the worst case for clicks. Saw a few people we know might have been there, more waiting to hear. Wish I could be hands on helping but I'm in the UK and can't get over. Speak soon. 👋😀👍
@Slikx666 yeah, it was rough but we survived lol. As many have said it's been a long week. Felt like it took a week just to get to Wednesday haha. We lost power where we went to, shortly before my normal 9pm stream on Wednesday. It kept coming back OK but by the time the wifi came back the power would go off again. When it stayed off the 5g wasn't working. Came back home yesterday and all is well. Just a bunch of sticks and some large branches. Still got a little clean up to do but can't complain. In talking to the neighbors they said we never lost power except for a few times for a short amount of time. It's a shame though. I wish I could have gotten the branches falling on camera, but the power flickering caused the camera to spin around and I lost control of it due to ip resetting lol....oh well. If that's all I have to complain about it's not that horrible lol.
Stayed on Astronomy Lives livestream till 3am GMT. After that I needed to sleep but woke up again,so I thought I'd leave this message. Are you ok? Just respond and I'll see your message.
@Slikx666 hey thanks for checking up on me. I replied to your other message. Sucks that I lost power and 5g wasn't working. There were other streams I was hoping to watch that night as well. It was....quite an experience even though it wasn't that bad where I was.
@@smassky I know that we've never met ( including AL Reds etc ) but when something happens I do what I can do. I may be in the UK but I've still got information that might be useful. It felt good to be there for you all, it kept my mind busy, next week is the 2nd anniversary of loosing my boyfriend so my mind needs to focus a bit. Anyway I'm off to sleep, I'll see you soon 👋😀👍
Stay safe!
The power went out long enough to interrupt the wifi! I'll restart the stream at my normal 9pm spacewatch time.

You need to get yourself a Coronado scope so you can show the flares! 😊
Totally agree! Or a Lunt. Lol. They're on the list. 🤓

"Last day of july" Seeing that made me stop and wonder for a moment . ❤
Neat! I will get my scope out later to check it out.
Hello there! It is amazing. Excellent that views of the sun. 🎉👏👏👏
😍😍😍 Amazing that moon... Thank you for sharing!!!
Always enjoyed Sam, Thanks!
Very nice! I'm hoping to start doing this very soon with my CPC1100.
thanks @petesastrophotography! Check out my friend @Astronomy_Live. He's done some tracking recently using the software he's been working on (the window on the left in this video) using the Celestron Nexstar 11". He's also got several tutorials about it over the past few years as well. Feel free to ask either of us questions if need be. Clear skies!
@@smassky Nice, that's right up my street! I'm going to be writing some tracking software as well, I've been a hardware/software engineer for 30+ years so have some ideas to bring to the table.
Awesome! You might be interested in my DIY remote focuser then. It's sort of basic right now, but I've been working on figuring out what I'd like to do for version 2, which I go into a on Part 2 of the blog. Part 1: smassky.com/remote-focus-motor-project-great-progress-part-1/ Part 2: smassky.com/remote-focus-motor-project-part-2/ I'm also looking at building a DIY "Stream Deck" to control my streaming software when I'm live. I'd like to have a touch screen, and maybe some mechanical switches, rotary encoders, and a few sliders I could use for volume control. Of course I don't have as much time as I'd like to sit and mess with it all lol. It would also be cool if I could use the stream deck to control the telescope as well. I already had an idea for remotely controlling the focus, but I'd like to also be able to slew the scope from the "Stream Deck". Unfortunately, Celestron CPWI seems to be locked into what hotkeys it uses. Maybe I could use another program to be a middle man of sorts that does have customizable hot keys, but again, it's a projects I don't have time and what not to dive into that deeply right now.
@@smassky Awesome, now were talking. I'll definitely have a good read through that, this is the sort of thing I've done for years. Looks like we'll be doing similar projects, I'm in the early planning stage for a mini robotic observatory for my scopes so I can control them from my streaming PC and also autonomously capture data when the skies are clear.
@@petesastrophotography I've looked at NINA for this. I saw that it has an option to execute local files. I could use a batch file to set a text file which OBS monitors. When the text file changes OBS would automatically start the stream. NINA would then of course make sure the target was centered. I tried it out but unfortunately my Canon camera wouldn't play nice with nina for streaming purposes. The image was black and white for some reason. I looked and couldn't find any settings to change that, but maybe I missed something. I'll have to try looking again.
Awesome! So cool.
