To compare the disgusting antics of a few football hooligans to any REAL battle just about insults everybody - no matter which side you were on!
The Paramount movie version of 1964 titled “ZULU” is quite fascinating.
If only we could possibly get Disney to re-release its theatrical adaptation of “ROB ROY THE HIGHLAND ROGUE” back onto theatre screens for its 75TH Anniversary coming up in 2028.
The Jacobites weren't fighting for independence, they were fighting to put the Stuarts back on the throne.
When the ninjas arrived, death came in silence.
Wrong headline to begin with! The last battle on British soil was the Battle of Fishguard in 1797, how to mislead from the internet.
Excellent ❤
Many battles going on now on British soil
It's a documented fact that the Light brigade lost only 145 killed and 50 taken prisoners, 26 of which returned to England after the war from a compliment of 675 not at all as bad as the famous poem would have you believe.
The film would be interesting if one had learned a little more about the wounds of the skeletons. Maybe a comparison and an explanation of the weapons that caused this. But no, there is this wailing of a woman's voice playing in the background that is supposed to represent music. After twenty minutes I had to switch it off because when I want to hear whining I play a bad record for my dog. Thumbs down for this nonsense.
The original debacle where lions were led by donkeys… leaving aside the fact that the British and French should never have been in the Crimea, entrusting command to British aristocrats was criminal. The thousands who died are footnotes of vainglorious idiots.
Culloden should never be characterised as a struggle between England and Scotland or indeed between Britain and Scotland. It was between Jacobites and government loyalists.
Culloden wasn't the last battle in the UK. There was an invsaion in the Napoleonic Wars when the French landed near Fishguard in West Wales in 1797. It was all a bit chaotic and a lot of the French were rounded up by Jemima Nicholas (nicknamed Jemima Fawr, big Jemima) a local blacksmith. Jemima's Pitchfork is a well known local beer, named after her and the (legendary?) pitchfork she used on the French. The local Castlemartin Militia were also involved and were awarded the battle honour 'Fishguard' the only battle honour awarded for an battle on British soil against (civil war battles didn't count). It was not until 1914 that there were losses to enemy action in the UK when the German battlecruisers bombarded Hartlepool, Scarborough etc
I think that this documentary could have been told concentrating the whole story solely on the battle itself now half of it is told telling about the rebellion, there is still many stories to be told about the battle itself, now such as it is its name should be the Jacobite Rebellion im not saying its bad but i believed it was only all about the battle itself from the name of the video...
Reading these comments is like reliving the actual battle. Calm doon. It doesn’t really matter.
What's the military historian with white hat sitting on!! Thin air😂
''The last battle on British soil...'' until the present day and the current ongoing one.
The good old days, when people followed traditions as they were given to us by the maker.
David Chandler. I had his book on Napoleon - which so impressed President de Gaulle, he awarded David Chandler an Honour.
The Stuarts are entombed in Rome.
General Wolfe as he became, was a Field Officer in the Kings Regiment at Culloden. At the Anglo French war " Heights of Quebec " Wolfe was killed as was the French Commander Montcalme.

War ... legalised murder ... No glory .. No valour ... just humans killing one another...
The '45 rising was not an attempt to 'destroy the fragile union between Scotland and England and strangle the British empire at birth' as the commentary says at the beginning of this piece. It was an uprising to place an absolute monarch back on the throne of Britain. The fact that this would have been a Stuart was not a matter of any great importance in the great scheme of things. More seriously, it was an attemptto replace the new system of governance in Britain brought about by the Glorious Revolution of 1688, which should be regarded as the triumph of landlordism over feudalism and the establishment of common law (law common to all, not merely at the disposal of the aristocracy with a monarch at it's head). The destruction of the old feudal system throughout Britain had not happened in the Highlands of Scotland, which was not even feudal. The clan system was merely tribal. Not unnaturally, many clan chiefs would have been only too pleased to see their own power of 'pit and gallows' re-established. In the Lowlands of Scotland and the rest of Britain the new form of governance had resulted in the rise of a commercial and mercantile class who were not aristocratic, the start of a capitalist economy and an unprecedented degree of prosperity. The re-establishment of a feudal system under any absolute monarch would have been a disaster for Britain, because it would have reversed this trend, not least in the Scottish Lowlands, and that is why the rising was not generally supported and failed.
The act was an attempt to reinstall a Catholic monarchy not an absolute monarch. The French yet again were behind with the collaboration of the Catholics in Ireland and Highlands. France was not interested in who it was ruling as long as they weren't Protestant and were beholding to them. The diverse aims were always going lead to issues and the French failed to produce the troops they said they would due to trouble in their own shop. A Royal Naval blockade of Channel would affect them badly not the Scots and they weren't going to do that.
The jacobites shall rise again 🙌

The Union Jack flag, also known as the Union Flag, has a long history. The original design was created in 1606 after the Union of the Crowns when King James VI of Scotland became King James I of England and Ireland, uniting the English and Scottish crowns. This first design combined the St. George's Cross (the flag of England) with the St. Andrew's Cross (the flag of Scotland). However, the Union Jack as we know it today was first established in 1801 after the Union between Great Britain and Ireland, when the St. Patrick's Cross (the flag of Ireland) was added. The Battle of Culloden took place on April 16, 1746. At that time, the version of the Union Jack in use was the original from 1606, which only combined the St. George's Cross and the St. Andrew's Cross. This version was used as the official flag of Great Britain until 1801. So yes, an earlier version of the Union Jack was used during the Battle of Culloden, but it was not the modern version that includes the St. Patrick's Cross.
It is only correctly called The Union Jack when it is flown by a ship, otherwise it should always be referred to as The Union Flag!
How ironic you call them barbarian when's the Islamic empire taught you everything you know from medicine, astrology to basic hygiene and all in between. I never understood why a general would charge into a situation he didn't understand. The Mamaluks have gone soft and probably haven't been in war since they defeated the Mongols, they should have waited for Napoleon to advance or send scouts to determine the defensive structure of the French before attacking. Ironically enough, this very same square defense is what defeated Napoleon's army in the Battle of Waterloo.
actually that stuff is all Pre islamic
You don't know how the world worked back then
Typical British history they fought and won the war singlehandedly, Dispthe French and their Turkey allies being there and having fought alongside. What a load of buel.
They refer to the allies regularly. It just so happens that this particular battle was mostly British v Russians and this old documentary from 50 years ago was made for British TV before the internet. So suck it up
Won't the french and Turkish be saying the same thing? Wake up !
@@tonyfairey7733 That particular battle was almost all British and no Turks so no they probably won’t
@@tonyfairey7733 a handful of Turks involved
I didn't know the French had an English accent hahaha 😂

I would love to see you do a video about the two Campaigns on Fort Fisher NC. My 3X Great Grandfather, who fought in the second Campaign on January 15, 1865, he died of his wounds on January 16, 1865. These Campaigns on Ft. Fisher seemed to almost end the Civil War because the fort was destroyed thus cutting the Confederate supply line.
