    That charging call on Dave Meyers, when he was undercut by a Kentucky player standing under the basket, is an all-time terrible call.

    Richard Washington and AC Green attended the same high school, Benson Polytechnic high school in Portland and were coached by the legendary Dick Gray. I remember seeing a game at Wilson high school in Portland in maybes 1973 if memory serves seeing John wooden in the stands scouting Richard Washington. I guess he was impressed !

    Living through this in Bloomington at the time was like...knowing all week long that a hurricane (Duke) is about to blow through town. Upon it's arrival, you watch from the shelter of your unfriendly neighbor's basement (Rupp Arena) as the winds punish your modest little house (Indiana) with precisely the demolition job you might have expected (1st half), before suddenly dissipating (8 minutes to go) and by some miracle, all the debris magically lifts off the ground (Moye goes nuts), and not only self-assembles (3-point barrage over Kent State), but somehow upgrades itself into a mansion (73-64 over Oklahoma). I mean, the plumbing was still all jacked up (64-52 loss to Maryland) but the euphoria was too overpowering for anyone to notice.

    R.I.P. Bill Walton. Best college player ever. Man they called traveling and 3 seconds tight back then. And I noticed that no one could dribble between their legs then. That no duck rule was stupid. And it was only because the powers that be hated Kareem dunking.

    Thompson should have went man instead of zone against Villanova and pressured the ball when they tried to use the 4 corners offense to their advantage. Also I believe in change of pace on defense too, because Villanova was lowering them to sleep. Change of pace always works well against aggressive defense, such as the offense going slow makes the defense go slow. However, you should disguise your defense in a situation like this. Act relaxed on defense and then sneak up on them. Also Harold Jensen should not have been left wide open. He was a shooter, and someone should have denied him the ball. Don't play help off the shooter. Allow Pinkney to go 1 on 1 with Ewing.

    • @DavidHall-zo8eg
      @DavidHall-zo8eg 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The game was more physical back then, and I would have used some physicality against Harold while he's playing off the ball to throw off his concentration when he gets a shot.

    In 1973 the NCAA had a no-dunking rule, otherwise it would have been 25-of-26 for Bill Walton and 52 points. People forget that Walton had 4 baskets nullified for offensive goaltending and thus "settled" for 44 points on 21-of-22 shots. Walton's 44 was, AND STILL IS, a championship game record.

    A lot of talent on that court and no one and dones... Marques, Goose, Robey, Grevey, Washington but the best player on the court was Dave Meyers, absolute stud. You get the feeling for how Wooden strung together the titles through the years even when he didn't have Kareem or Walton... Meyers the senior All-American, solid role players in Trgovich, McCarter, Drollinger and some super sophomores in Marques and Richard Washington...

      UCLA in the 70's after Wooden was crazy! My mother worked in the Veterinary Clinic there at the time and went to all the games. They were always ranked in the top 5 and went to the final 4 a several times but she and all the fans were crushed if they did not win it all. Bartow and Cunningham were fine coaches.... but UCLA lost just a bit of an edge and mystic without Wooden. The expectations went on into the 80's and to this day UCLA old timers still are that hard on coaches.
