Read The White Goddess by Robert Graves. A very different book indeed, very odd. It's good on connections between religious observances in the Judeo-Christian accounts and those of some very diferent traditions.

There is much more than than Roman culture association with the date. Christianity is more tied to the Jewish tradition then to the Roman culture. The Crucifixion is tied to the Jewish feast of Passover. The Jewish tradition uses a Lunar calendar. Talk to a Christian who knows how to calculate the day of Passover. In the early Church Rome saw Christians as a sect of Judaism and a challenge to Roman emperor as a god. According to an AI search, the December 25th date was set in the 4th century. It wasn't until 380 AD that Rome declared Christianity the official religion. It so happens that the Council of Nicaea (325 AD) was held about that time. In the 4th century the Julian calendar had set the date for the new year as January 1. It is interesting to note that December 25 is 6 days before the new year, the first day of creation for a new year.. There are 7 days of creation story in Genesis. So the birth of Christ is in accord with the creation story of Genesis. This may just be coincidence? I am no scholar of Church tradition, these are just my own opinion, without any evidence to back it up. I am sure the association of January 6 as the birth date of Christ also has some interesting associations. I forgot to mention that in 313 AD the East and West Christian branches had a schism over a one word change in the church Creed. It is interesting by coincidence that both dates of Christ's birth can be associated with Genesis Chapter 1 creation story. In the West, Christ's birth can be associated with the first day of creation when God said "Let there be light". So Christ is the new Light of the world, and the story ends on January 1. In the East, assume the creation story starts on January 1. Then on the 6th day, God creates man. In the Gospels we hear the title "Son of Man". In Hebrew the title is "Ben Adam" which literally translate into "Son of Adam". So Christ is seen as a new Adam of a second creation. It seems that each day for Christ's birth is centered around the creation story, but from to different points of view.

Your information is soooo wrong in many ways, the Christmas used to be on January 7 but moved to Dec 25 due to Gregorian Calendar after astrological correction for the calendar.
