    I just had my hamstring graft used for a new ACL. I really don’t know what to expect. All I know is I’m on light duties for the next years. I feel if I bring my leg back too far it could just pop again, but supposedly it won’t, early days still. It’s good you documented it the way you have, and I like how you acknowledge God’s influence over your experience as well. It reminds me to ask him everyday to help me get better and not do any further damage.

      I had this done 4 weeks ago. How are you guys doing being a few months ahead of me?

    • @kjvic
      @kjvic 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@mattchapman9209 Hey! So much better than expected. Last week I returned to my full “normal” work capacity. I feel like normal, and lifting, running, jumping, all like I could before. The only time I notice the effects still I would say is endurance. The knee tells me when it’s enough, and that’s at about 1.5-2km of hard running before I need to slow down and rest it. But I can do all essentials as before and without any pain. Physiotherapy is what helped me achieve this. I attended, and still attend, twice per week for about an hour each session (half hour by myself and half with the physio). I think there’s a long way to go before I could run 10km, but the improvements are drastic, and I’m arguably stronger than I was before as well. Today would be 4 months and 3 weeks since the surgery and I was good to go like normal at the 4 month mark. Good luck with yours Matt, you got this.

    I had 3 arthroscopic shoulder surgeries in 2005 and 2006. I didn’t understand why I was feeling really sad after the surgeries I had. My parents weren’t those kind of people you could talk to because they would tell me to suck it up or deal with it so deep down I had to hide my feelings and I mentally blocked everything out at that time in my life I was only a young teenager. I wish I was able to talk to the doctors and nurses how I was really feeling after the surgeries. I still have dreams that I’m having surgery and I sometimes wake up crying. I never talked about my surgery experiences and what was going through my mind at that time. I hope I can talk to someone who can help me. I’ve been dealing with these feelings for a long time.

      You learn the most by rolling with people less experienced*, experienced people teach you stuff but you practice and learn to introduce it in your game by rolling with people less experienced or evenly experienced and i would add that i've learned even more when i started coaching kids at gracie barra, you need to be precise about everything you're saying and they will ask you and fail on every minute details so you have to be very clear about the techniques, it makes you learn so much it's an incredible experience 5/5 trip advisor users would recommend.

Now, I’m up and walking 3 miles at a time just 14 days after surgery, and I’m healing very fast, but still, it’s gonna be a while before I get back to the magnitude of fitness I achieved before I got hurt.

    So sorry this happened to you! I played soccer all my life, planned on playing through high school & in college and beyond.. and was definitely good enough to do so! I was playing in premier leagues while I was a teenager. I ended up tearing my ACL, partial MCL, and meniscus the summer before my freshman year… and unfortunately my growth plates weren’t closed yet, so I had to wait until the middle of my sophomore year to have surgery. (I was also extremely sick after that surgery, puking for 6-8 hours, had to stay the night in the hospital because I couldn’t keep anything down 😭) It completely ruined my life! Playing soccer was all I knew.. and not being able to play anymore left me depressed, lonely without all of my soccer friends, it was absolutely devastating. I did the cadaver graft, and I couldn’t fully play again until my senior year. Well… senior year, high school tryouts come around… and I’m killing it! Until the last day… the last hour… we’re all scrimmaging while the coaches are finishing up talking before making their announcements… and I tear my OTHER ACL, in front of EVERYONE. I knew exactly what I did when it happened, after you do it the first time you just know… I was so angry, so heartbroken. Everyone kept asking me if I was okay- obviously not! The coaches came and found me inside icing it afterwards, told me that if I was okay they would love to have me on the varsity team… I just cried and cried, I knew I wasn’t okay. I ended up having it repaired 2 years later, as it wasn’t exactly urgent anymore, my soccer career was ruined! 😭😭😭 12 years later, here I am… I have re-torn both ACLs after having them both fixed once already. I just had knee surgery last week because apparently my first knee surgery was done incorrectly! He ended up doing bone grafts to create new tunnels for a new ACL graft, which I can get repaired in 3-6 months, and also repaired 3 tears to my medial meniscus, and 1 repair to the lateral meniscus. I will be on crutches for another 3-5 weeks so that my meniscus can heal! (Much different than an ACL surgery!) 😢😢 So yeah… my knees have ruined my life… and how did I tear them you ask? Mostly just from running and pivoting in other directions… my hips and knees aren’t “aligned correctly” and so randomly when I run & then stop to pivot in another direction, the top of my leg keeps going and slides over my knee, ripping through my ligament. 😮

    Honestly I think your quad seeming to be higher up is just less muscle mass basically. I noticed when you build up quad muscle and straighten the leg, the muscle mass has to go somewhere and the bigger it is it gets squeezed down more. So I guess it will become more symmetrical with time and training. I am 3.5 month post OP ACL repair right now, thanks for your videos ❤
