1978 Live Cleveland Agora, an amazing show, enjoy.addictedtovinyl.com/blog/2008/05/10/just-in-time-for-summer-bruce-springsteen-the-e-street-band-live-at-the-cleveland-agora-8978/
Greatest rendition of "Growing Up" by Bruce Springsteen and the "Legendary" E Street Band ... EVER!
Best live performer ever
He went big venues right when I was old enough to see in in the Agora in Columbus
Love it
If you weren't at those shows in the early days you just can't understand how much the stories and the long intros into his songs meant to the fans. The whole show was a story, his life story, our story. It explained how much the music, the stage, the fans, the whole rock and roll story meant to him, and us. He changed everything.
My first time I saw the Boss was this concert..I was 20 years old. Bruce punched a hole in my soul that night. I've been a huge fan of him and the E Street band ever since. THANK YOU BRUCE!!!
Still my favorite concert ever. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, "Darkness on the Edge of Town" tour, South Bend, Indiana, in the fall of 1978.
Home of The Buzzard 🍻🍻🍻
Just shortly after this show aired it found its way to New York at WPLJ for the entire live show and from that moment... My life changed forever... The 1978 Darkness on the Edge of Town Tour To this day is still the Greatest tour he ever did for me personally... I still have all my bootleg cassettes and last "Prove It All Night" from the Agora show... 💥 The Best Intro Ever... Bruce is a great story teller too... "Growing Up" Thank you so much... Bless you all... 🌈❤️🎶💥🎼🎉🎸🎷🥁🎹😎
I grew up with this!
WMMS made Bruce famous.
This is awesome....
I remember when he played this live
This was my dad’s favorite concert …. One day , my family was heading to the mall.. the agora concert was playing on e street radio.. my dad told me and my mom to head on in… and a few minutes later .. my dad stayed in the car to rock out…..
Mine too... Best Show Eva..!!! w/all of the 1978 "Darkness on the Edge of Town Tour"... 🌈🎶🎸🎷🥁🎹🎼💥😎
Had this on 8-Track! Proud Clevelander to this day!
The BOSS in his best.....a great entertainer.
Best version of this song EVER !
this takes me back to fellows perpetually cutting-up receiving flack which after confiding they dug donny osmond style music more than stones pleaded i stay mum_
Still listening in 2022.
I'm up there in years -- 75 -- but this song is phenomenal. Almost brings tears of nostalgia to my eyes. God, weren't those the days......
I'm a bit behind you there, as I will be turning 65 this summer, "Weren't those the days,?" indeed!!
Best story ever told...
3 days before his last show in the GREAT STATE OF MAINE.Augusta civic center.August 12 1978..Bruce come back!!!
Make WMMS air old concerts again…. Only way to save that station
bought a bootleg cassette of this show in NYC on the street in 78. Gotta go find it!
WMMS in Cleveland paved the way for Bruce to own the Midwest. His concerts at The Agora were legendary.
Fact. My uncle was at this show. I was 9. lol.
Stevie Van Zant said, this is the best live show the E street band ever did.
WOW! I never knew that!
Nah! 3/25/77 and 12/15/78 both blow it away! But it's awesome anyway. *and this is the BEST version of this song EVER!
was just a very young 11 year old listening to the great WMMS 101.7 fm miss the 70 & 80 classic rock radio stations
WMMS IN THE 70'S was the greatest radio station that ever hit the airwaves. Case in point is what you're listening to right here.
Nah, 100.7 actually son
Earl Schieb will paint the interior for free, just roll down your windows 🤣
where can we find THAT intro?
oops never mind sorry
This is my favorite performance of this. Had a bootleg cassette tape of part of this show.
Friday's heading home from work. Kid Leo played Born to Run - Cleveland Rocks- Friday on my mind.
Born to Run,Murray Saul get down then Friday on my mind. Cleveland rocks in later years. Alex Bevan between that. Just to set the record straight. All good.
Yes every Friday night at five till six kid Leo play born to run it’s so very sad that Bruce never comes to Cleveland anymore because quite frankly kid Leo put him on the map
Is Kid Leo still around? I left the cleveland area in the 90’s@@princesscarla2089
I got sent home for pissing in my desk..... brilliant
If you saw this concert, you will never forget it for the rest of your life. First of all, you had to WIN tickets to see it, and there were only 50 pairs of tickets released. The Cleveland Agora had just been remodeled, there were tables, and my friend and I had one right near the stage. Lastly, Springateen had not been able to perform or record anything for 2 years before this performance since he was suing his manager for creative control. I've seen "The Boss" three times, and this, by far, was the best. BTW, Kid Leo was very known at WMMS-FM as the DJ who helped Springsteen break out in Cleveland. Another thing that happened -was Clarence Clemmons had his Nackemichi tape player stolen out of his dressing room. (If you listen closely, Springsteen says: "You want me to ask God -- what? Who stole your tape player?" Finally, this was quite an event since it was simulcast not only in Cleveland, but other radio stations in other cities (such as Minneapolis, Detroit, Indianapolis )
i was at the C,S & N concert at the Coliseum same night, Beach Boys at Blossom same night. Epic Center of Rock & Roll that night!!!
Clarence Clemmons tape player being stolen of his hotel room is a true story.
@@kingkongkevin507 Of course. I wouldn't have posted it if it wasn't true.
I recorded it off of WXRT in Chicago.
This is the Holy Grail by him if you grew up in Ohio.!
I listened to this show live on WDVE Pittsburgh in 1978. I was going into my senior year at Bethlehem-Center HS in the Mon Valley.
Aiden, you still around. would love to get this whole concert. please
Kid Leo...praying for more WATTS!!!
We're gonna blast this baby all the way to New Jersey...
I want that saying on a t shirt
Does anyone know if there is a recording of the entire concert / radio broadcast? Did they ever release it?
there was the whole concert. It has disappeared as a whole concert, only able to find single songs now. I really want to find the whole concert again myself.
Yes there was recording of the entire concert. Actually they finally released it and it's available for sale. The bootleg was called "teenage wearwolf" i imagine the official release is similar
Ive been looking for this !!!!!!!! I remember hearing this on WMMS in Cleveland often... Agora rocked.....
I've been searching for this version of Growing Up for years. I guess I was searching with wrong tag words. Thank you for sharing it. This song shaped my life. Growing up near Cleveland, this was the anthem of the times. From 13 til now, it's still my favorite song.
Who pisses in their desk...? And why...?
Judging by the audience response to Bruce's admission...quite a few. I'd imagine he got taken short and didn't have time to get to the toilet.
I'm at work........very, very close to pissing all over this desk
Bruce did
This song is all about Springsteen finding his vocation in life. He pissed in his desk as a form of rebellion and was sent home to his parents to stop fooling around with himself. "How did they know what I was doing in my room at night?"
Cuz that's where your teacher put your report card
OMG-His tales Have Been COMPILED,Who Could ASK FOR MORE kat,çt.72-
In November, 1978, he came to Northwestern U. in Evanston, IL. We sat on folding chairs in about the 20th row for nearly 4 HRS! I was 22... I have yet to see a better concert in the past 41 yrs; the passion, the grit, the intensity will prob never be matched
I remember listening to this show via a simulcast from MMS 101FM.....1978.... I'm still fuckin high from that show
FUCKING IDIOT
You're an asshole.
Springsteen SUCKS
get a life
And what does " a life" in your world consist of , being a suck ass carnival music Springsteen fan? No thanks , boy...
@@johnnyvee1721 only a loser would come on Bruce Springsteen song and say what you just did.. Pure loser
@@chillibeef9947 Go fuck yourself asswipe.
@@chillibeef9947 You nailed it!
And I heard just three words...........LET IT ROCK!!!!! Cleveland Boys!!!
I did too Mike Roby! The Cleveland Agora was the finest spot in Cleveland, even when local bands were playing. I was there nearly every Thursday for Easy Street & One Dollar Draft night! I'd give anything to go back in time!!
Mike Roby, it was just one of those things. I did not have a fake ID, and once I knew about Bruce coming to town, there was no time to get one. There was a guy in the Terminal Tower who made them for you if you had enough $$, but the word was they were crap and didn't always get you in.
Thanks for the reply, Greg. I sure saw some great bands in that humid little club.
I was born in 1960 and got in using a friend's birth certificate in 1976. I would pass it to my other friend behind me! Ah, the simple life... Then again, we were girls ; )
I was home listening on the radio... because I was one year underage to get into the Agora (what would become my favorite dancing watering hole!) SOOOOO sorry I was born in '61 and not '60 that night!!!
Greg, if you couldn't get into the Agora with a fake, you just weren't trying.
Greg Nold Lived in Cleveland from 95-06, and listened to wncx cause mr classic on Saturday night is the best thing I've ever heard. I was out there for a week recently and caught the show again and he played this so I hadda find it
can i get the link for the whole concert please?? big fan
