    I recently got the VH30R and unfortunately noticed that the bubble level in the center is relatively inaccurate. My camera’s built-in level always shows a tilted image even when I’ve aligned the head perfectly. I experienced the exact same issue with the replacement model. How does the Acratech head compare in this regard? Is the bubble level more accurate? Additionally, the Leofoto was relatively stiff when tilting, even though I had completely loosened the right knob. How does the Acratech compare here? Are the tilting movements smoother? Thank you for your effort!

      I have noticed that none of the heads I have ever used, all brands, are completely accurate with being level. I know with doing panoramics, I have to level the tripod, the head, and only rotate the head when possible. I also place a bubble level in the hot shoe of my camera for critical work where it has to be level. Then I go and check tripod, head, camera, and bubble level on the camera to see if I can get it spot on.

      @davidakoubian3025 Thanks for your reply! If I replace the VH30R with the Acratech I would have the same problems, or is the Acratech much more precise? What do you think? A second question: Is the Acratech smoother than the Leofoto?

    • @davidakoubian3025
      @davidakoubian3025 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ChrisMustermann the Acratech might be a little smoother, but not much if it is. I think the leveling issue is pretty much the same and may vary for each head.

      Follow up. Found another head from SunwayFoto that is even cheaper and I think it actually built better than the LeoFoto. Also the SunwayFoto DT-03S was $79 on Amazon, compared to the LeoFoto of $175 on Amazon. The SunwayFoto does not have a spirit level but my LeoFoto Ranger tripod LC-288CEX has one so no real deficiencies there. Take a look. Really surprised me. Thank you.

    What none of them have, is a big enough leveler bubble. I find most gear doesn't. Should've been built in a lot bigger, so it's A LOT easier to level. I mean, they obviously think accuracy is important, as they have grades and position markings on the whole head. both of them. And that is too sloppy for the price.

    I have the Acratech, and the clincher for me is the ability to quickly and easily change the top clamp orientation. I do this constantly going from the camera cage to the foot of a long lens. And regarding over tightening the knob for that, the way this is designed the tolerances are so nice and tight that you need only to finger tighten that knob and it is rock solid. If it is too hard to loosen then you are at fault, not the knob.

    What if you use a step up ring? My lens has a 82mm thread and I’m using a 82-95mm step up ring (Ive ordered the 95mm ND revolution filters to prevent vignetting) do I even need the inlaid ring? Because A the inlaid ring will just stick to the step up ring (can’t tighten it because there’s nothing to screw) and B all the filters will just snap onto the step up ring itself. And what’s the meaning of the adapter ring that comes with it? I’m so confused 😅

    • @davidakoubian3025
      @davidakoubian3025 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So my understanding is that with the Revolution series step up rings don't really work. There is space beyond the inlaid ring that you can use an adapter, or step up ring for either the traditional Wolverine filters or for instance the Close Up filter. I have found that even with 17mm filters I get no vignetting with the inlaid ring as it sits so far into the lens front.

    Hi David, nice video. But just assume I have a friend who’s having trouble getting an inlaid ring out from a Nikkor 135mm lens. He recently got his first set of Kase filters, in practising their insertion / removal he fitted the ring easily just as you describe. In trying to remove it he used the 3D ring tool, got it engaged on the inlaid ring with no problem, but then was unable to turn it. He applied a little pressure and it started to unscrew, but then became stuck. The inlay now looks slightly skewed - misthreaded. How would you proceed to remove it from here on?

    • @davidakoubian3025
      @davidakoubian3025 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In the past, when I would have a filter get stuck, I would put the entire lens in a freezer for a little while. The metal should contract and loosen it up. Try gently going in bothe directions to see if it frees it.

    • @PaulHilton-vq8sf
      @PaulHilton-vq8sf 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks David. I tried that today. There was only slight movement of the ring. I’m now at the stage of feeling any more straining on the ring tool on my part may risk damage to the lens. I’m going to try my local Wex photo store as next step.

I had actually forgotten about it since moving into the city a couple years ago and not having close access to the beach I used to shoot astrophotography at. Slightly different from night photography, ive been looking at getting an ND1000 filter and a photographer friend of mine (a Canon shooter though, so he doesnt know about BM) kept saying youre not going to be able to see anything through the viewfinder, which made me think back on this setting which i'm almost positive would do the trick for composing shots with the ND1000.

    Ordered the Kase Revolution filters to replace my way-to-weak Freewell magnetic filters, and they are so much better. I use permanent screw in UV filters and the inset ring allows me to use any UV or Clear filter as a base for the Kase Revolutions magnetic filters. (I don’t put a UV or clear filter on the 200-600 as it affects IQ. Not so with my other lenses). The Kase Revolution magnets are strong enough, I may swap the screw in UVs for magnetic ones. Just ordered some ND100000 for the eclipse. The only issue I have come across with Kase is the CPL filter seems to scratch very easily. I’m on my second one.

      @@davidakoubian3025 I find that while using a CPL filter with a magnetic cap, it is rather difficult to get the cap off without pulling the CPL filter off with the cap. I stack the filters for carrying like you do, and I’ve never had the bundle fall apart, so I doubt it got scratched in transit. More likely during use, but I’m not sure how.

    Ok it’s been over a year now, how is the Leofoto functioning compared to the Acratech?

      I've had no issues using the Leofoto. For me saving the money has been good!

      @@davidakoubian3025 Excellent to know thanks. I got the Acratech but wanted to gift one of these type heads to an employee so a Leofoto may be just the ticket.

    Wow, great photos. I love Iceland. What camera and settings did you use for the night shot at 08:53?

      Thanks! The camera was the a6600, it should have been around 5 seconds, ISO 2500, and 18mm, f3.5 or f4.

      @@davidakoubian3025Thanks for the quick reply :) I bought a second hand (low use) A6000 and a new Tamron 18-300mm. Great photo for f3.5. Everything I read suggests prime lenses for night photography and astronomy photography. Glad to see the 18-300 works well for night photos too.

    I have a Acratech GV2 ballhead and the Acratech long lens/pano head. Also, the Acratech leveling head that I occasionally use with the pano head. They were pricy but worth it every dollar. I actually called Acratech when I was shopping for the pano and they had a cosmetic reject (can’t tell where) that gave me a quick significant discount. You get what you pay for.

      Acratech has great stuff, but there are some folks that can't afford it. The Leofoto is a great alternative for those folks.

    For me the easiest to level my camera is to have a panning clamp on my ballhead, or geared head , that way I don't even care to level my tripod, I do have leveling bas on all my tripod but I really hardly need to mess around with it, just look at the bubble level on the Panning clamp, and use the head to level it, once that's is done. I can pan all day and the camera wil remain level, makes things super easy.
