My LVN Journey - From Prison to Hospital

My LVN Journey - From Prison to Hospital
My aunt is an LPN for 43 years. She still works for the VNA. I have complete respect for her. I decided five years ago to go to RN school at 39 years old. The differences that she knows and I know our whole worlds apart. Meaning she knows completely more than I do. I just got license last year in june. I feel that I know the best nurse in my life is my Aunt and I know I can back ask questions when I need advice, which is for me all the time as I am a new nurse.
What school did you go to ?
Good deal
Kiks, if you don’t mind me asking: what school did you go to? The reason I ask is because I know you mentioned you went to a trade school but you hear so many horror stories about those types of schools. It would be good to hear they’re not all bad.
Excellent video. Thank you.
I personally decided that I want to go to an LVN program that has very few pre-requisites, because I don't want to take 5 pre-reqs to be considered. It was also important to me that I take classes in the evening and clinicals on weekends so I can work full time. Lee College in Baytown only requires their LVNs to take 1 class and while they are taking it they can apply to the program. Most of the programs in my area only allows daytime classes and daytime clinicals, so working even part-time isnt an option.
I think it is vital to do your homework on any LVN Program that you are considering. At Lee College in Baytown TX they mandate that all RN/LVN Students get the Covid 19 vaccines and boosters, no religious exemptions accepted. However, they are one of the few colleges that are allowing LVNs to do night classes and clinicals on weekends so they can still work full time. Also, once you graduate with your LVN, when you come back they allow you to skip an entire level of courses for the LVN-RN program they have and it saves you a lot of money.
Correctional nursing is what I really want to do once I finish school
Please don't think you where a failure , you stuck it out and you moved on and progressed in your career , so well done , you seem like a good , dedicated person. Greetings from Ireland. Thank you
Thank you for your kind words always love my friend from Ireland.
@@THEKIKSOFTEXAS Thanks for your kind comments brother. take care greetings and hug from Ireland! LOL
So true. More people should start as LPNs. It seems like everyone has to feel like they have to go RN RN RN or BSN BSN BSN. It can be a huge mistake for a lot of people.
Flight nurse??? E.R. Nurse? Urgent care nurse??? Physical therapy Nurse??? Can an LVN do those jobs?
Flight nurse .. no, ER yes .. urgent Care, yes... physical therapist aren't nurses it is a specialty in itself
C.N.A. L.P.N. L.V.N. A.D.N. B.S.N. M.S.N. Nurse practitioner C.R.N.A. (respiratory)
I’m going to school next year in August to become an LPN. I am going to work for 5 years in the field. Then I’ll decide if I want to further my education. That’s okay too, but in the mean time I know for a fact that I can live comfortably as an LPN. PLUS, I am a Certified Pharmacy Technician.
You can still work at hospital in the Med/surg dept as an LPN/LVN. This way you can get more experience. There are lpn/lvn that know more than RN'S just because of experience alone
That's awesome
I’m glad there’s people here that respect LVN,LPNs but there’s those nurses that just disrespect and dislike and just be little LVNs and those I fucken hate and God forgive me for saying that
Love that hairy chest
Question: what is exactly do LVNs do at a hospital?
At a hospital we do the exact same job as RNs except in certain units and certain procedures but day to day there is no role difference on the floor.
Please can you recommend a good book to pass the test for LVN schoool entrance exam?
Thank you for this amazing video. Very informative. I am a practicing LPN in Vancouver Canada. Would u happen to know the process of transferring from canada to us license wise? Thanks kindly
Yes. Apply for a US work Visa. Go look it up.
Very helpful information thank you so much
Hi friend's anybody knows what to do need for LPN and LVN? and is it possible to without no IELTS or No TOEFL? Arkansas state ( I'm very interested but I'm new here 😭
I have been an LVN for 20 years, and I have my degree in Health Science. I won't go back to become an RN, and I'm satisfied with what I have done
That is awesome. I look forward to graduating and working as an LVN also :)
How do you check if a camera from the pawn shop has problems before purchase?
I always tested it first make sure the battery charges and can cycle through the shutter... and I choose pawn shops that have a 30 day warranty or extended warranty to upgrade or return in case of problems down the line
where you a cna before you became a lpn/lvn?
No I wasn't I was an engineer in the navy before
🙂
Hi do you believe Private LVN school is worth the money
If time is your biggest concern over cost then I would say so I know a lot of families that can't afford to have someone out of the work force for so long to go traditional so they sacrificed for the quicker private route
Yesss !!! I’m a huge LPN advocate!!! And around here RN programs will give you credit for the schooling you’ve already done and your experience…
People don't and it's terrible a Nurse is a Nurse rather LPN or RN.
Smart ass questions get smart ass questions usually the ones that ain’t got a lot to piss in are the ones asking smart ass questions
Forget the haters LPN/LVNs absolutely 💯 are nurses, I started my nursing career as a LPN in 2002, 19 years ago, got my RN through a diploma program in 2008, BSN in 2015 and MSN in 2018, I STILL use that fundamental nursing knowledge I learned in LPN school every day. Everyone has their own path and plan, not every LPN wants to be a RN.
Definitely. LVN school was intense, but the instructors wanted every student to excel
@@chabbytreemechanic1731what school you go too? Sounds like mine. Lol
I am in a nursing home and I am glad to finally see some honesty. Thanks
Honestly what would health care do without lvn/lpn especially in long term care?? I have worked with BSN nurses who needed me the lpn to walk them thru drawing up and giving insulin...💥💥
Retired from lpn work after 40 years...never regretted not going back for Rn.😍
Absolutely amazing :)
@@janetthomas781 Did you become an LVN?
Really thinking of going to lvn school hope you make more vids bro new subscriber here 🤙🏻
Can’t hear the video on my end but did you have to take math classes? And was classes hard
I had a question about when you said you’d have to retake all those classes again
What about the bridge program ?
@@TheGraphicalChart It depends if the school your going to accepts your classes for transfer if not you have to retake the course. Not all school accept your classes
Thank you for sharing , wish I could have been there.
There’s an LVN school very close to me that’s a year long and the tuition is $27,000. Is that the norm? I heard someone say they paid about $12,000.
If you qualify for financial aid they might be able to pay for more than half the tuition.
$27,000 seems high, but then again, it depends on your state and school. I’m from Michigan and finished a 2y RN program w/ an ADN for about $10,000.
LVN for $27k? Wtf. Here in the states it's only 5 to 6k. I suggest you go to community College and transfer. Unless you're going from High School to University to get your BSN, you're getting scammed
@@NunYaBiz1313 I’m in California. Everything is more expensive here but this school offered a convenient after work schedule so it cost more than others. I didn’t go there, it’s too much.
At my community College its about $13k. I thought that was pretty high.
Thank you!👏
How about a 30 yr seasoned CNA walking an A.S Nurse thru a procedure? In hospital, new hires, it happens.
It defiantly does happen. CNA's are a huge resource to any nurse new or experienced.
@@THEKIKSOFTEXAS I've walked RNs thru wound vac applications from start to finish, foley insertion, blood draws ect.. I start school this month for nursing, after 30+ years of being a CNA, and at my age! LOL I am stoked for sure!
@@betsyviz I'm 52 yo lpn and thinking about going back to school for my rn. I feel so intimidated.
@@whodatyamid5399 Don't feel intimated at all.. mostly you'll be getting basic college courses and some advanced nursing, but most of this you should know already! I am 56 and started the LPN program 5 weeks ago, and since I already took Surgical technology 12 years ago- a lot of it is a refresher except for the nsg diagnosis and the critical thinking aspect. You got that all under wraps as well as pharmacology! You will rock this! Good Luck.
@@betsyviz Thank you for the encouragement.
I'm returning to school. 10 years on a cart dealing only with old people is enough. I actually didn't have many nurses ask me when I was returning to school. Do I recommend it? Yes. I found a number of one year programs. The exam goes from 'get the nurse' to ' assess for xyz'. All the lpns I went to school with passes their NCLEX.
Ive been a nurse aid and i have been in icu for 3 years and the watching the patient part. I dont need to know the BIS measurements but it can help if i spend the time learning it and writing it on my report sheet and letting the RN know if it is not whats ordered. It helped a couple weeks ago when a rn was busier with a mass transfusion. It also helps with time management and critical thinking as a nursing student. And even after all these years i always remember to pull the sheets off a patients toes because it can cause sores. Always build on what you do know.
You're experience and continuing strive for patient care and knowledge is such an important part of healing. Thanks for sharing.
Im a new nurse ❤
Look at my Tiffy looking 🥰🥰and full of knowledge 😏😏

Love me some BMC
Im taking my nclex pn soon. I did the program during the pandemic and I graduated Feb 28. 2021.

@@robingacud congratulations very happy for you. Best wishes going forward. Any plans for your next step?
@@THEKIKSOFTEXAS I just paid my initial licensure application and I am just waiting for my name and license to pop up in the board of nursing website. I have no plans right now and I dont know where I want to work.
What if I have a bachelors in a non science field and want to go to lpn school and instead of rn school in the future I may do occupational therapy school or physicians assistant?
I have known a few people with other degrees, like myself. I have a BA in mechanical engineering. I have a friend who did the same and decided to going respiratory therapy. It's a great way to get your hands in the mix.
