I'm interested in creating emotional connections with people around the world through nature. The goal is to share my vision, thoughts, and processes. Here you'll find information on the what, when, why and how needed to become a successful wilderness landscape photographic artist. With a little bit of sarcasm added in for good measure.

Hiking Mount Sneffels Wilderness
Beautiful hike into and back out of Blue Lakes in the Mount Sneffels Wilderness of the Uncompahgre Range in Colorado. This in and back out route, as it is often referred to, is actually hard (especially if you live at sea level...then maybe it's very hard) but only due to the altitude. Stunning views, rock scrambles, a couple hairy moments, amazing sunrises and sunsets and another wonderful trip checked off the bucket list is complete. Let me know if you liked it, thanks

Beautiful hike into and back out of Alice Lake via the Toxaway Loop in the Sawtooth Wilderness in Idaho. On October 31st, 2022 (yep, Halloween) I fell off the porch roof falling about 9 feet hitting the edge of my pickup truck. The truck got dented, I got multiple broken ribs and a punctured lung. So it has taken me a fair bit to get back in the swing of things. And missing the entire 2022/23 ski season, my winter exercise regimen, was really hard on me. I am just now recovered, almost completely,...

What a breathtaking scenery my friend! Thumbnail is epic as well 🔥
Thank you, it really is a stunning place! They say the thumbnail is ‘everything’ 😉
❤❤❤
Thank you 🙏
Beautiful photograph!
@@cheynewalls thank you 🙏 but the natural beauty of the place almost makes it too easy. Although almost falling into the water was a very sobering experience.
@@RodneyLoughJr Oh the natural beauty is one thing and incredible, but to do the work, carry all that gear, almost falling in the water :), to capture an amazing moment and share with others. That makes it a truly beautiful photograph. Have been inspired by your work for many years. Its a life goal of mine, when I buy my first home, your work will be the first art piece to be hung on the wall. Cheers
Beautiful! Do you happen to have a pin drop for where the location is for the beautiful photo at the end? I'm planning a trip end of October and would like to go to that exact spot
I don't sorry. But this is out by Wonder Lake. And another but…the access is closed right now due to the road closure. But…have a great time. It is a wonderful place.
@@RodneyLoughJr was this towards the begining or end of the hike? Or was this near the parking area? Beautiful picture. It's a shame access is closed right now
@@justint8405 All of these kinds of videos are done chronologically. So if you like a clip near the beginning then what you’re seeing is near the beginning and so on. Hope that helps.
So nice!❤❤❤ it was worth asking them to move.😊
I think so too! And they were really nice about it.
@@RodneyLoughJr I’ve gotten to locations three hours before the light was going to get good and I’ve had people walk up just as the light is happening and ask me to move so they can get the shot. I reply nicely “no, I got here three hours ago, this is a first come first serve experience.” 😉
simple and beautiful photo
Thank you 🙏
Love this shot so much mate.
Thanks! 🙏 Hope you get a chance to watch the Back Story via the link. It’s pretty funny. 😆
"I love a rainy night!"
And that sound on the tent fly. 👍
The first image of yours I saw in San Francisco in 2009 that captivated me. The first of many I purchased , in my opinion one of your finest!! I will never forget the 2011 workshop in Yosemite Rodney - unfortunately a few joint problems have prevented me doing any more but that trip inspired me and still inspires me to this day!!!
Thanks for those kind words. Day Dreaming helped launch an entire career. You should watch the back Story if you haven't yet...follow that link in the description. Otherwise how are you doing my fellow PhotoSnob!? Great to hear from you. Hope you are still getting 'out there'! Les Trois Tetons! hahahahhaha
Rad man this is good stuff!!! Just got my channel going I was in the sawtooths last June also
The Sawtooth’s are amazing aren’t they. Sad news this year with the fire that’s going on. Congrats on starting your channel.
Love the silent hiking ASMR video!
@terb95 thank man! Hope you two are getting out into the woods as much as possible. Be well.
We are getting ready to do the 18 mile hike in one day on August 3 rd. When did you do this beautiful hike?
It is a magnificent hike. Kudos to you for doing it in a day! I was there July 1-3, 2024. Check the news as I heard thunderstorms (they think) started a fire and last I heard it was not contained yet. Good luck!
@@RodneyLoughJrthank you for the heads up. We are checking now. 😊.

this is beautiful
Thank you so much. It is a stunning area for sure. Hope you are able to visit it sometime.
This is such a beautiful area. I was hoping to get up there this year. Very Nice!
Thanks for that, the area really is stunning! And at 20'ish 'HARD' miles is worth every step. Hope you get to go there...my advice is contrary to everyone else's, but go clockwise.
Beautiful!! Very much enjoyed this. Cheers
Glad you enjoyed it. Hope you get a chance to get out there and enjoy the wilderness. 🌲

I used to visit your gallery by the Aria when I was in Vegas, There was one photo of a swell in a water stream, I think taken in Utah.. Id stand for a half hour just mesmerized by it. It was absolutely stunning.
Ahhh Vegas, what an amazing place. So glad you were able to visit & it brought you peace. Was the image one of these by chance? www.rodneyloughjr.com/image-gallery?category=Water
Outstanding! Never stop 😊 By the way, how many crew were in your production team? 😂😂
Thanks 🙏. I had a huge crew, Me, Myself and I. 😉
Hi Rodney! It's been a long time since the Art & Wine Festival in Burlingame! You know I've always be a real fan of your Photos! This one, '"Cirque of Towers" is beautiful! You know . . . I can almost see the clouds moving before bringing myself back to reality! Thanks! (Yes! Ir was worth it!!) I have 4 of your fine prints ("Day Dreaming," "Left Handed," are 2) in my room with me now and of course, the fine redwood print("Dogwood") in the Livingroom. It's good to see you're out and about! Check out Red Rock Canyon, NV, next time your nearby! (Less bears!)
OMG! It has been such a long time hasn’t it. If memory serves I was up at about 10,500’ish ft. Where it seems that the wind never stops blowing. I guess that’s one reason they call this place The Winds. BTW I have Dogwood hanging in my home as well. Absolutely love it! As I’m sure you do. 🙏
@@RodneyLoughJr I sure do! "Cirque de Towers" is well worth the effort, albeit cold! Having backpacked myself in the past at that altitude, it always seems invariably windy. There a a couple of peaks here, where trees are too sparse to temper it. Thank you, again!
I love It!
Thank you very very much. You’re very kind.
Great video Rodney - Thank you for sharing! Did you do this as a solo-hike (where you had to scurry to set up the video shot, then hike through, and then scurry back to pick up your camera) or did you bring a cameraman with you?
You know me. I’m a soloist. Scurried about like a lost bunny rabbit.
@RodneyLoughJr - If you're like me Rodney, nothing happens in just one "take". You about doubled the length of your hike getting all these amazing shots! Great job! 👏
Your new friends from Indonesia, are here to listen and watch your videos wholeheartedly and share the beautiful ones.nuce vloq..👋🤝🇮🇩🙋👍
Thanks and welcome 🙏
@@RodneyLoughJr your welcome👍🇮🇩🙋
I believe I stayed in the exact spot you did. Up on a little shelf south of Lonesome Lake. Beautiful video. I wished I had the patience and the equipment you had to get the shots. I'm usually crunched on time and need to burn miles. Take care!
Wow. You know the area well indeed because that describes very nearly the spot. Patience comes on strong for me when I’m standing in front of something so amazing. Just wish I could find someone to carry the equipment. 😉
Beautiful hiking trip. I've been looking at different hikes in the area, and this one looks pretty nice.
Oh it is absolutely stunning. I'm sure you would love it! The final push up to the 5th Bench Lake though does require a little trail finding. But if I can find it, anyone can find it. Be safe and have fun!
Yes!
🙏
It’s great to see you putting out some more videos, even if it is from last summer!😁
Haha 😆
Glad to see ya back on the trail !!! I've been collecting your amazing work over the years !!!
Awesome! Thank you! What’s your favorite?
Awesome! I'm very happy to see your posts again!
More to come!
@@RodneyLoughJr - Best news today! Eagerly awaiting
I saw someone comment on a video once that “no one wants to watch you hike”. I don’t feel that way, seeing a trail and the views and terrain is awesome to me. Watching how someone sets up camp is always intriguing. Great video man!
Well you know what they say, it takes a village. 😉
I enjoyed watching that video. Glad you have recovered, sounds like a pretty scary fall.
It was! But it happened so fast.
That timelapse was a beautiful capture. Great video with incredible views.
Thanks Nick. Truly one of the summer’s highlights for sure.
Good Luck!
Thanks!
Happy to hear you are on the mend and back to normal and natural activities 👊🏾
Hi Rodney, hope you are recovered from your accident. Any news on you posting again?
Indeed. Just finished a new one, it’ll come out later today. That fall in which several ribs were broken really took its toll. But I’m nearly 100% again. So stay tuned for more coming up as well.
Rodney, we miss your videos!
I know. Sorry. Still trying to recover from that accident. I’m still alive though. 😉
hey man , any website or social media where i can see you work ?
Absolutely there is…all that sort of stuff is in the bio on the channel page. Let me know if you can’t see it, because something would be really wrong. But just in case the IG is #rodneyloughjr and the web is www.rodneyloughjr.com
You shooting some type of digital view camera? wow, that is amazing
I am. It’s what I jokingly call my Franken camera. I put together the best ‘pieces’ I could find into one system. Making it small, lightweight, versatile and backcountry worthy without losing quality in my clicks. Today each click on a full frame 645 sensor at 151MP yields a 2GB file, with no up sampling. When you look at an original photograph it is like you are standing there, it’s that high res. It’s way lighter than the ol’ 8x10, though I do miss the novelty.
@@RodneyLoughJr Awesome!
The unsung hero of this episode is the camera woman who had to watch you almost get blown off the ledge! I’m also glad I’m not the only one who forgets to check camera settings! Great video Rodney and great images!
Thanks Tom, she’s great I’ll tell you!
GREAT VIDEO RODNEY !
Thanks Doug!
Rodney, when are you posting again?
Someday. I’ve just been swamped in the studio, the new project I’m working on as well as teaching and hiking in the enchantments. I got very busy very fast. Sorry man! 😉
@@RodneyLoughJr Hey no problem. I want you to know that some of us really enjoy and learn from your videos. Your work is outstanding
That was entertaining Rodney (and a beautiful shot)! If you go out shooting long enough, this stuff eventually happens. You just had the fun of it all happening at once - on camera - for the rest of us! Thanks for not "Glossing Up" the life of a professional photographer.
You are so right about being out ‘long enough’. I once dropped an $8k lens for my 8x10 camera over the edge of the Grand Canyon, I should add - by accident. Tom Till in Moab was kind enough to allow the replacement to be shipped to his place for pick up. Which allowed me to get going on my journey. Grateful for kind people in the industry, always a blessing. Thanks! 🙏👍
Was the image worth it? Are you kidding? this is more than worth it. It is epic! it evokes feeling! history! nostalgia! and boldness! bottom line, it is another master piece! Awesome work as always. This image should be hanging in a museum. Love your videos. Keep them coming. Please don't go so close to the edge the next time with those winds. I would hate to see you flying (forced by the wind that is...)
Well that’s nice of you to say! Thanks 🙏
Wow! stunning image! great video as always. Thank you!
Appreciate it. TY
If that camera falls off the edge your fucked
I always love to see your travels, but was giggling when you tried to touch the spire for time travel! HAHAHAHA...another Outlander Fan! I wonder what time period you wished to go to????
Yes! You got it! #outlander 😆
OMG Rodney! I seriously thought this might have been posted posthumously after watching those wind gusts nearly blow you over the edge. I'm glad to see that you made it back, and with a great image to boot. Definitely worth it!
You saw how I was holding onto that tripod for dear life right? That was NOT acting 🎭 🤣
@@RodneyLoughJr I did, and thought there is no way that tripod is going to help you if a stronger gust came along.
I have to go there now...amazing!!!
Just another thing to add to the list. 😀
When did you go there?
4-23-2022 it was pretty windy but oh so beautiful.
@@RodneyLoughJr it wasn't hot-that's the main thing for me. You sure captured the colors!
