Cycling all regions of Italy, and then onto all of Scotland.
Finding that creative spark
Still looking. I made the best coffee table that has and will ever exist, ignore the exposed screws, MDF and burn marks, that's all part of the charm. But seriously it was a great project to work on, and I am looking for that same feeling again, just on a larger scale this time.
I made a plan and left work to cycle around all of Italy. I'm halfway done after cycling the northern regions in over 61 days and just under 3000km, and I will be setting off in March 2025 to complete remaining regions, largely in the south. I had to split the trip in two due to the 90-day limit in the EU/Schengen zone.
I'll be uploading daily progress videos on my socials linked below when I'm back out there.

I left work to cycle around all of Italy. I used CapCut everyday to edit a short video which I'd post to my social linked below. I used Premiere Rush to edit longer videos that I've posted to this channel while I was out on the road, camping or holed up in accommodation. Great video, love how you show things in your notebook. Keep it going! 🚲
thank you! it's a big part of how I express things, so I thought I'd add it into the mix 📝
Thanks for the inspiration!!! Keep pedaling and posting these cool vids my friend 🚴♂️
Thanks! I aim to 😁
I applaud your approach and attitude, either do it while you are young or stay fit(ish) and do it when the kids have grown up....I am in the latter camp. good luck with making it work - its the life in your years not the years of your life!
very true indeed, thanks for the kind words!
I think your doing OK, I’d love to leave it all behind but it’s a bit late for me. Start drawing my pension soon and the health left me years ago. I’ll be riding the UK byways, camp out for a couple of days then back home on the train. 😂 You keep going.
Thanks for that. Good to hear you still getting out and at it though, hope you enjoy it! The pension will come in handy for the camping gear, that stuff aint cheap 😂Haha no plans to stop for now, Scotland after Italy, then onto the next thing
Tip: Hook the bags in the lower rails = lowers the point of gravity and enhances the ride stability
I just got a set of the Ortlieb 40 Liters (2*20) bags for my Trek Checkpoint. I have them hanging off of an Old Man Mountain Rack (over the rear tires). Up front are a pair of Rhinowalk fork bags 2 * 6 Liters. My goal is to do some 1 or 2 night bike packing trips over the spring or summer this year. Probably in the Lake Tahoe area/Sierra Mountains. I've only had the bags on the bike for a quick test spin around the neighborhood so far. Enjoyed your video. I will order some spare parts for the bags to have with me as I'd hate to be in the middle of nowhere and have an issue like you did. Happy New Year from Northern California.
Sounds like they'll be great adventures, good to hear! Yeah good choice, I'd definitely recommend the spare parts. Happy New year as well!
What was the weight of all your gear?
bit of a ball park, but probably 30-35kg including water
the rack isn't centred because the top stone has a weird dish on the rear wheel which is offset.
🎉🎉
I would add a variety of cable ties to your toolkit. Lightweight and versatile.
Ps take pedals off and deflate wheels protect the rear gears and brake pads
I look forward to seeing your workflow.. just subscribe…I’ve been fine-tuning my workflow for content creation and camera gear for my future bikepacking adventure i plan similar to making shorts every few days and a 20-minute weekly video. After wasting a lot of money on the wrong gear, I finally dialed it in. I chose the DJI Action 4, DJI Pocket 3, and DJI Mini 4 Pro and wireless dji mic 2 because they all use the same color codec, D-Log, which makes editing seamless on my iPad Pro M4 using LumaFusion. I have 6 TB of SSD storage and transfer everything wirelessly. And have 6tb of storage on iCloud i back up in coffee shop with free WiFi and also upload video to TH-cam I switched all my 512 GB SSD cards to 64 GB, which forces me to back up footage nightly , even in a tent nothing worst than losing camera or drone with weeks of footage. For power, I use 4 x 10,000 mAh battery banks since they charge in 3 hours, unlike my 20,000 mAh Anker, which takes 6+. I also have a 100-watt USB-C charger, an international adapter for various countries, and a 60-watt solar panel to charge while stopping for roadside lunches. I use the iPhone min 13 as well for mainly thumbnails short for TH-cam and facebook posts and as a movie editing if my iPad fails all wireless transferred ..i did have a quad lock for a case and mount but removed it after a few bicyle friends got there phone stole at traffic lights people just reached over grab it friend lost accces to ever thing his TH-cam channel etc This setup keeps everything organized, efficient, and ready for quick drone and camera access during my adventures.
Very cool setup .. yes you were right dji action camera would have been a better choice .. remember you can get 2 tb. Of iCloud storage so you dont have to keep buying ssd cards .. and yes you can connect a phone to a ssd 2 tb drive with a camera apple adapter it plug in to phone and you plug in camera and you plug in battery bank so it gives it power .. my advice if you can wireless transfer the data then do that pulling out ssd cards. They eventually break .. … 30 gig data ok for emails but for upload videos your videos will be 4gig for 10 min video to TH-cam so i would just upload at coffe shops
Thanks for that. I can wifi/bluetooth download from the camera and the GoPro, but I either need to plug-in to the drone or take out it's SSD. I haven't had any SSD problems yet, but from what I've seen online, it's bound to happen. I'd probably go for the external drive in the future. I hope those coffee shops have good wifi for all the uploading and syncing to icloud I'll have to do. I'm on the 200gb icloud plan, but am creeping to the limit, so will probably go for the 2tb.
@@TheRichardHaldane yeah internet not usally a problem in coffee shops
When i started watching this i said no way he doing a bikepacking setup with all that gear for sure a traditional cycle touring setup .. i was half right lol .. tip pack first with water a food in minded then gear arround that food and water space is the most import.. that was my big mistake when i got into bikepacking 15 years ago .. now i pack with food in mind i can carry 10 days food and max 14 litres of water
Oh wow okay, this is the kind of advice I need! What kind of food would you generally bring? There's definitely room to cut down on some gear I'm taking
@@TheRichardHaldane do you use face book messager
@@TheRichardHaldane it depends i where i go very remote or places with lots of supplies points .. just remember the more time you go shopping the more time the bike is left ..if i was doing Europe route your doing i would carry 3 to 4 days max and plan my meals arround recipes that you can easy find in small stores breakfast and dinners i would cook lunches would be non cook unless i am traveling when it cold then i would do hot lunches ..
@@Bikepacking Instagram would be better for me, do you have it? (@therealhaldane)
Cool will watch this later
Wow!!!
Where are you boys from
Done this 2 weeks ago on beautiful hot dry day. The lad in yellow trainers should not have been near the mountain, but i guess you didnt realise the importance of correct footwear especially in those icy conditions. Great achievement though guys i salute you all.
Great adventure mate really enjoyed it.
This is the best snowdon content on TH-cam!
100% agree !
