1984 Virago 1000 frustrating fuel delivery problems
My apologies for the slow, lengthy video. Things didn't go quite as planned. In this video, I remove the 2 carburetors and try and fix my stuck float needles. Empty out all the fuel from the bike and replace it with new gas. I start up the bike and have a new problem now, which is the opposite of my original problem. To be continued with a follow-up video.

    Ya theres something like that going one for sure. The wierd part is I replaced all that with a new carb kit a few months prior to making the video but now all that is suspect now. I'm not too convinced the quality of the kits I got are very good. Some of the main jets didn't even have proper holes through them. Like they got missed in the manufacturing process. They didn't have jet size stamped into them either. Definitely pour quality. I have put the whole project aside for the next couple of weeks until I have more time to sort it out. Cheers!

      @Speedboss1124 yeah I was thinking the same thing. Got to drain everything and go back to cleaning both tanks. The main and the smaller auxiliary tank. Start over again and get the fuel cleaned up first then sort out the carbs. Pretty sure the rust suspended in the fuel is causing it to not shut off properly. Pain in the ass but it's the way she goes

    My bike does a similar thing on cold start. I have to hold the starter button and the bike turns over multiple times, sputtering some before it finally starts and it’s kinda of a weak start. It’s only on cold start though. Think that could be a weak battery?

    • @CenterStandMechanX
      @CenterStandMechanX 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @deltabluesdavidraye yeah that's right unfortunately. The head bolts protrude out of the engine case to High for the valve cover and head to clear the frame. Valve cover is fairly thick and there's not enough clearance to remove it while the engine is in the frame. Makes doing any of this type of work a little more involved. Cheers!

      @vadersfather1248 Hi, sorry I didn't get back sooner. Sounds kinda like you're having what's called a lean pop. It's really hard to know, though, without actually seeing the bike, but that's the direction I would start looking. Usually, a lean pop can happen when the engine has an intake leak. Like a vacuum hose is cracked or bad manifold gasket. Look for a vacuum leak around the intake area. Get the bike running and spray brake cleaner around the intake boots and vacuum lines, throttle area too, and if you have a leak, the rpm should change. Most likely, rev up but could stumble too.Your carb could need a clean, too. It's so hard to tell from away. That bike I think has cv carbs to so could be a rip in one of your diaphragms to idono. Good question Max . There doesn't appear to be any cotter pin type of mechanisms that would keep the nut from backing off but the nut itself looks to be a self locking type with an extra locking washer built right into it. It's on the outer edge towards the right of the machine if placed correctly. Possibly it is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced. Thanks for pointing that out to me. I think it will need to be replaced. Probably worn out. Cheers!

      Yes I 100% agree and will be doing so. I wasn't prepared to find it like that and would have done it but didn't have a new sump cover gasket for the job. I had problems with it leaking before and RTVed both sides of the gasket last time I took the cover off and will need to order a new gasket and have it on hand when I change the sump filter. I've got the filter just didn't want to risk having it leak again. I plan on changing both filters again very soon. I'm still trying to work out some bugs with the engine. I keep finding the oil quite black after only running it for short time. I suspect it's still running a bit rich and struggling with these old carbs and cheep pod filters that obstruct air flow. I'll get there eventually. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate all the help I can get. Cheers!

      FYI, I’m 37 y/o, new to your channel here and to owning a motorcycle. After days of researching what sort of bike I think I would enjoy, looking over the online inventories of every local power sports dealer filtering out any condition except used and deciding to aim my efforts more directly towards the person who is trying to trade or sell their bike that I am interested in and in our current era the people have determined FaceBook Marketplace so I spent several days combing through the hundreds of listings that returning in the results when searching for generic ass “motorcycle sport standard”. Then went through the first list to pull out a short list. One bike caught my eye. I don’t know shit about bikes really.. I mean, I’m a man and can do figure out a motorcycle I just haven’t had opportunities or urges to seek them out. I like “vintage” stuff sometimes, especially when someone who’s is green to bikes has a hard enough time trying to pick out the brand new one from the 40 year old one, and that’s what I felt about these Honda’s. Also, that particular Honda looks as if it just rolled out of factory and it has no damage, scratches at all, swirling in the paint, signs of wear in the leather seat, markings on the brand new looking tires, I couldn’t find a spec of dust on top of the bike nor a spec of grease or dirt on the underside anywhere. The paint is immaculate and the decals look new.. It’s a “1981 Honda CB650 - Standard” with 5,000 original miles on the odometer, and it was listed the day before yesterday for $2,500.. So I get in contact with this guy selling it after researching that particular motorcycle and he tells me about it, everything was standard and as I expected it to turn out, then I went out to eat a late lunch/early dinner with my mom. Well, as soon as I got back home I opened the for sale listing for the bike again to gaze at it a bit more and noticed that within the last couple of hours the seller dropped the price by $500 to a now new price for this bike, $2,000. I called the seller back and said I’ll take it, I can come out to pick it up Thursday after you get off.. Seller tells me that is fine but if someone else comes through on Tuesday and buys it, I’m SOL.. Which is to be expected,. However, he offered that I send a $100 deposit (money talks, he knows I’m not bullshitting now) and that he would consider a $100 deposit to mean I’m invested in this transaction, especially since I was asking him to pull it off the open market just by my affirmation to him over the phone that I would be buying it. So, i sent the $100 deposit and will be driving the 2.5 hour trip one way to meet the seller and pay the balance, then load the bike on my truck. Anyways, that whole story to say that I just bought a 1981 Honda CB650 with 5k miles on it and in brand new condition cosmetically for a grand total of $2,000 and a tank of gas to go get it and bring it back home.

      Right on congrats man on buying your first bike! The 1980 Honda cb650 was my first bike too. But way back a long time ago. Probably around 1988 or 89 can't remember exactly. I bought mine for 500 bucks back then and it was only 8 or 9 years old at the time. Hard to believe but it true. 500 bucks was more money in those days for sure but I was able to do it as a dishwasher in a local restaurant with not much trouble. Don't remember it being to hard to pay for. Anyway nice bike would live to see some pictures of it. Not sure how to do that tho. I will be doing a video on my cb650 coming up in a month or so. Going on a trip first but when I get back want to do some work to it. Cheers!

      Thank you! Yes me too really enjoyed using up parts I had and keeping it low budget. Probably into it for around 400 bucks something like that. I haven't done a cost analysis yet but got to be close to that. Not including time witch wasn't really going to be part of that for me. There are some incidentals that would have to be factored in. The next phase of this build will probably bring in some more costs as I truly Zombify the bike into my vision. This first part was to get it up and running and usable now next will be the customization portion. The really fun part and yes most definitely will be updating the channel with lots more content of the bike. Next video I want to build the front fender so that will be coming out soon. I did some carburetor work last night and think I got it running a whole lot better now so I'll probably talk about that too. Cheers!

      @serge8400 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      By the way, I have a temporary solution for the timing tooth-out problem. I have put the electrical timing problem aside by grinding a bit on the point main plate to be able to adjust the point right in sync with the piston position. Ignoring the cam valve error at around 10 degrees, still give me an appreciated improvement on motor performance and smoothness. Soon I will be able to deal with the REAL problem, and take the engine out of the frame. The first gear jumping out when on a bumpy dirt road is still a mystery. Any suggestions on this from anybody reading this? Serge. NZ.

    • @CenterStandMechanX
      @CenterStandMechanX 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @serge8400 I tried messing with the points plate too and couldn't get the points to fire correctly even with the few extra degrees. This is where I stopped myself from doing more crazy things and looked into the cam being out. It's was one of those inconvenient truths that I didn't want to have to go there but in the end it made all the difference. Before I retimed the cam properly the engine was backfiring a lot preventing it from revenge up untill it got past a certain rpm then it was more responsive. This might have been from the centrifugal advanced kicking in and alowing it to run better in a way. Skipping one tooth made all the difference. As far as jumping out of first gear. Not sure. Have a look at your drain plug magnet for metal chunks or the remnants of a small cotter pin or pins. You can also take the clutch cover off ,take the plugs out and spin it over with a 1/2 drill and run it through the gears and look for problems while you shift through the gears. Get one of them bore scope cameras and look down it to the transmission and see how everything is shifting. Cheers
