2017 Ford Escape SE fog lamp & turn signal assembly removal
DISCLAIMER: This is my first every 'how to' video. Be gentle.
NOTE: At 3:03 in the video, I said it was a T42 torque bit to adjust the fog lamp vertical beam. It is a T40 (didn't have my glasses on and TH-cam is telling me that I can no longer add annotations).
After reading a post on the FordEscape.org forum on changing the fog lamp bulb, or the lower turn signal bulb that is in the same assembly as the fog lamp, I decided to make this video to clearly demonstrate what other posters had only described in words (or with pictures which only showed the before and after).
I was trying to get in behind the lamp assembly so that I could connect a NOCO Genius Port Plug to an extension cord (with three ports) that I ran up to the battery, where I plugged in a Battery Tender Jr. I then also plugged in my block heater. I mainly wanted the Battery Tender Jr. to provide a small, constant charge to the battery as my BlackVue DR900-2CH dashcam had drained my battery to 12.0 V a few times and stopped recording in parking mode.
Tools used:
- an old vinyl coated hook (for leverage)
- Tresalto Auto Trim Removal Tool Kit - a.co/d/6xQtkBW
Other items mentioned/shown in this video:
- NOCO Genius AC Port Plug - a.co/d/bc0Df9l
- Battery Tender Jr. - a.co/d/hXVMeBU
- BlackVue DR900S-2CH 4K dashcam - www.blackvue.com/dr900s-2ch/

sure would be nice to see the bulb come out... oh well. thx for the tip. worked out
What are the sizes/type of bulbs? I beleive the fog light is a H11, is that correct? And what about the turn signal? Thanks.
Thanks for ur reply The dam light housing through Ford, they wanted 460 dollars. Crazy! I’m also in Saskatchewan. Took a rock in the housing n finally filled with water. Thanks again…….
Great vid Sir! Did you have to aim or adjust the light beam setting?
Given my primary reason for removing the cover was to drill a hole in the lower plastic for inserting a port plug, I wasn't even aware at the time that the hole in the cover that I pried off was for the light adjustment. Once I learnred its purpose, I did check that the lights looked good, i.e., were level, which they were. So, no light adjustments were done.
I need to change the parking sensor right under the fog light. Is that possible if I disassemble the fog light?
🤷♂️ Best of luck on your search.
Why make it so fooking difficult to change a bulb etc
Thank you, same problem. Going to save me time.
Thank you not all heroes wear capes
Thank you for your video! I have to replace a broken fog light assembly and was wondering how to access the bolts.
Great job!
Great video! Do you have any insight on if the same thing can be done to the front of a 2015 Ford escape?
Thanks! And, sadly, no.
Thank you, have to do on my daughters car. I learned my lesson working on other cars, I pry where if I damage it won’t be seen, I also put small pieces of tape at pry locations.
Is the Turn Signal light 3157 bulb size?
I don't know. You should go to Ford's website or just Google it.
Watching your video, it sure will save me a lot of time and money the next time I need to replace that bulb. Last time I had a mechanic do it and he went through the wheel well. Watching your video I saw the brand of sockets you were using and knew you were Canadian🇨🇦 (Mastercraft/Canadian tire) when you started to explain where you were going to put a plug-in to your front bumper I had a pretty good idea that you were from one of our colder areas of the Country. i’m from Montreal, not so cold but real damp. Thanks for the tip. Mike from Montreal.
I had someone at work tell me they were watching a video of someone talking about how cold it gets where they live and then they realized it was me in the video haha. Cheers! Rob from Regina, SK /=S=/
Perfect. I needed to know how to replace the black trim. Got it. I appreciate your video so much. 😊
Getting ready to add fog lights to my gf 2018 get more vision at night for her. Since not alot of street lighting by her on the way and home from work. Going h11 led 6000k 90 watt 10k lumens. 😈. Already upgraged her headlights and hi beams 10xs brighter already. And ot gives it a nicer look up front
Thanks for the video!!! Saved me a lot of time!!
Helped me thanks
i liked that you did not edited the video, shows how it really goes.
Quick question guys, does anyone know where the manuals are found he mentions in the video?
Mine was the owner's manual that came with my car (it was in the glovebox). From a Google search, I found this page: www.ford.com/support/owner-manuals/
@@realrobertjohnson thanks for the quick reply Robert, I went to the link but am having trouble finding the section of “How to” do the actual work myself.
@@nickflow2 Ahhh. Can't help you there at the moment. Manual in car and I'm off to bed. From what I recall, there weren't instructions in the manual on how to do what I specifically did, hence why iade the video.
@@realrobertjohnson Sorry, in the video you had said the manual told you to take off the wheelwell, and that had been updated.
This sure saved me a lot of grief. Thank you for taking the time to create this and for sharing with all of us. Andy 🇨🇦
Thank you
Wonder if this process would work on a 2015 Escape Titanium?
thank you i need to change a fog light bulb this helps thanks for this
Please what are the bulb specifications for the fog lights?
Call a Ford dealership and ask them.
NICE!!
Great video. Out of knowhere today my fogs won't turn on. And my turn signals on both sides are not working. Instead I have double parking lights on. Hope it's an easy fix. After some small investigation. If I can't figure it out with the bulbs and fuse then I guess I'll have to take it in. Thanks for this video. It helps
For anybody wondering this procedure is the same on a titanium as well. Not sure about sel but I assume it's the same
What can i use if i dont have a prying tool?
What if you dont have those tools
(a) Buy the tools, (b) use any other similarly shaped tools (c) pay someone to do the work for you.
@@realrobertjohnson I went with b. lol. Had a L wrench which i used fpr the hole insert. And a flat keychain which i used for pryor tool. It all worked. Thanks for vid it saved me from doing the whole tire panel stuff.
@@R3DRAIN89 I'm glad to have helped as many people as I have. I have saved so much money from TH-cam videos!
Your video is awesome help me replace lights with LED LIGHTS
Do you think it's possible to add the fog light? My 2017 only has the top amber bulb with a black plastic cover where the fog light should be.
You could try taking the cover off and looking to see what's behind, but my first thought we be that there is no socket for the fog light or any of the required wiring.
Thanks! But may I suggest masking tape to save ur paint
Your method worked great. Replaced broken signal light in about 20 minutes. Thanks for the straight forward to the point video.
Great video
Thanks for the video. I have the same car but a 2019. I’m replacing my bulbs soon.
I'm having very difficulty in getting the correct bulb size for my fog lamps of ford escape zg ambiente. I bought 9145 but they didn't fit. Can you please provide the bulb size.
Hopefully someone in these comments will know the bulb size as I don't. You could also call your local Ford dealership and and the parts department for the size.
Thanks !! Just bought some switchbacks for the turn & changing my blue foggers to yellow
Good old Canadia, minus 1 million degrees.
Thanks for infor,
Very helpful video ! Thanks a lot for sharing
Question? How do you remove the rear interior cargo light cover? Ford has LED light all over other than the fog lights and the rear cargo.
I have tried use some of the same tools you showed but it just flex and never pops out
Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the info. Helped me to upgrade to LED Bulbs.
Thanks for sharing✌️ I've been looking for something like this for a long time.
Great video. I like these videos where just regular people show how to do things and they are willing to share it with others.
The hole that you put the hook into to help pop off the cover is where you can just put a torque driver or alan key / hex key into to adjust the fog light levels. You mention it in your video. The hole lets you adjust it without having to remove the cover.
Ahhhh, very good to know! Thanks, Steve!
thanks for the help!!!
Why Why Why the hell does Ford make such crap. I have a 2013 escape and it is a pain in the butt to change out the front signal/fog/parking lamps. Even the length of lamp cable is so short that you cant get the bulbs out of their sockets easily.
Thanks for your effort... just what I needed.
Thanks mate! I’m about to do this process during the weekend
