It’s got to be a generational thing but to me the R107 is the absolute best of the of all SL models. Then the disgraceful R129 and the rest came along, which in now way I see them as worthy successors.

I couldn't help but notice that all those Aston's, RR's and Bentleys in boring safe colours, put that Red on anyone of them and bam. I am loving this flame red on the RV8, never seen it before now. Thanks for the vid shame about some of the sound though.

I would never risk driving on 16 year old tyres (tires), 6 years maximum is the normal recommendation from the production date stamped on the sidewall. I never knew these cars existed until 5 years ago when I spotted one in the garage of a customer, he kindly got it out and allowed me to sit in it and have a look in the engine bay.

My 2018 Renegade Trailhawk with the 2.4 and the 9 speed seems way quicker than yours and its stock

Avoid any Mercedes from 1992 to 1996 as you'll have a nightmare finding a replacement for the biodegradable wiring harness (MB doesn't sell one for the SL600)

Great content. I have a S600 w221 and a Cl600 c215. You’re right about the warning. Beware of the maintenance cost. But great cars. I m thinking of swapping the CL for a SL600. The gremlins will stay but I love the SL. I’m really hesitant because I really enjoy the CL, it’s such a great car. The S600 w221 is in another category.

I got a Deserthawk a few months ago and love it. It had just shy of 35k on the clock when I bought it. One thing to add about acceleration. These things don't like to be floored while taking off. I keep the accelerator half to the floor and it gets through the first 3 gears relatively quickly. Flooring the pedal seems to bog it down. It has great upper gears, but those first three aren't great and you definitely need to find the sweet spot on the pedal to get through them. I'd keep mine vs one of the Bronco Sports. Losing the extra inch in ground clearance is a deal breaker for me, plus it's half the price of a loaded Bronco Sport.

I own a 1985 R107 (380SL) with 89.000mls....returned from the USA to Germany in 2017. The power of this engine is quite fine for smooth rideing in the country side..

Wow looks like you had a bad customer service experience and took it out on the jeep. But yes the bronco looks cooler and it's a new modified Jeep design . That's how I see it. I love the bronco, but I think it's to expensive for what it brings to the table. On the other hand. Jeep has a longer life span than the Ford or Chevy. This brand is very tough. And any mechanic will tell you the same thing. I also think 180 hp on a 4 cylinder engine is better than what you had a few decades ago. Like 90 hp on most 4 cylinder engines. Actually the 89 Chevy Camaro had a 305 v 8 with about 160 hp engine. So it all depends on what you want to use it for, and what is more eye catching. But yes if the bronco was a bit cheaper I would of gone with it. I just got me a Jeep renegade. And those 180 hp move ok for me. And it's a very quiet engine.

Both really nice, I have an R230 SL55 AMG and I love it to drive every day. I have changed the entertainment system with a new Android device who fits perfectly in. All I can say it, It's an enjoyable care inside and outside with an impressive sound.

R129 would be the best SL to buy. It's quality is amazing and its price can be very low. Very limited problems as well past 1995.

Don't know why you spent much of this video covering models with a tiny, tiny production run, that practically no one on the planet will or even can buy. In terms of "What Is The Best Mercedes Benz SL to buy" most people looking at new or used will buy the large scale production models, why not cover them in more detail?

we had a renegade lattitude in 2015 when they first came out. i fell in love with it from the youtube videos at the time. i just liked its quirky looks and its percieved capability. unfortunately i agree with everthing you said about it. the worst part is the engine and transmission. those are two pretty big things to hate about a vehicle. the other thing was the battery would die unexpectedly while it sat in the driveway. my wife wasnt working because we just had a baby, so the jeep wasnt getting used much, maybe once a week. the dealership told us to get a charger or drive it more.

Yeah my Jeep Renegade 2018 Trailhawk Is way better then my friends brand new Bronco sport. Love the Renegade. Car reviewers are insanely picky.

The Mercedes M275 V12 is still the most powerful engine ever produced straight from the factory - as in not tuned by AMG or for the Maybach. It was used in the 07-09 R230 SL600 cars; the 07-13 W221 S600 cars and the 07-13 CL600 cars. The AMG tuned engines and cars usually receive the praise, but Mercedes itself it yet to put a more powerful engine in any of its non-joint venture vehicles.

Not good enough indeed. I love my renegade but it is seriously lacking and I will be trading mine in for a Ford bronco sport.

I have tested a r231 and then bought an r129 SL280 with manual transmission and pano roof. This is the best and more enjoyable car I've ever had. The 231 model is great but this is MuCH better!
