Really enjoyed your video, Nitesh Bhaiya. I’ve been following your channel since 2019, and your spiritual journey has always been inspiring. There was a time when you didn’t upload for a while, but I’m really happy to see you back again. I’ve attended 3 Vipassana courses so far, but I struggle with consistency in my daily practice. Since you’ve been practicing Vipassana for a long time, can you suggest how I can maintain consistency? I’m very interested in practicing Vipassana, but sometimes, due to daily routines, the motivation fades. And when I don’t practice, I feel regret. I really appreciate your efforts in spirituality, and your sharing helps all of us a lot. Thank you!

Nice to see you back. I differ from your point of view though. Instead of becoming equanimous with other people's reaction, why can't we behave the way they like, because now we can clearly see it. That way there will be always predictable good results and no conflicts. However, the downside is, you need your personal draining time to wash out all the internal frustration, otherwise you cannot be nice all the time.

I tried a Goenka retreat but i have to say it wasnt for me. Firstly they are very crowded They tend to cram a lot of people in and you sleep on bunks in dormitories. Im in my 50s now and cannot sleep in such unprivate conditions with strangers. Second the technique was not suitable for me and I don't think its suitable for everyone. Not everyone’s mind works the same way. I found the technique impossible to do. When i attended what made it even more difficult was the way the talks were all recorded videos. It felt very impersonal with little support if youre struggling. Sitting for ten hours a day and being encouraged not to move is excruciating for beginners and not recommended. I'm sure it works for some people but not all. Goenka endorsers like to believe that only their technique is the correct way but its not true. Its one way. If you dont have any money then it's a good option as its entirely by donation but personally i prefer to go to other insight centres now that teach in the Burmese style as taught by Mahasi Sayadaw. I have my own room so I get to keep my personal space and don't end up sleep deprived. Instead of sitting we alternate sitting and walking which is much better imo. The technique is also different in the way that we do not focus attention on only bodily sensations or in a systematic way such as on body sweeping etc but instead the object of the meditation becomes wherever one finds their attention. So it begins with breathing but then one notices their attention has moved to a sensation or a thought or a sound. That then becomes the object until such time that it loses interest and then one returns to the breath. I have found this technique to be more gentle and less rigid than trying to force the attention on sensations in a sweeping method.

Thank you for this explanation. Its very helpful. I begun practising over ten years ago in the Mahasi tradition. I sit every day for a minimum of two hours and i attend retreats several times per year. It has been a slow gradual process of understanding and I still only feel as though I am only just beginning. My advise to anyone who wishes to start practising or is just beginning to, is to be very patient and gentle with yourself. This is not something you can rush and there is no quick fix. Western culture is very much all about instant gratification and the media depicts meditation as being an activity that will bring peace and bliss in an instant. However, peace and bliss are not the goal, they are a nice side effect. The reality is that a lot of the time meditation can be very painful. When you sit still and look at your mind, a lot of stuff begins to surface. It can be very difficult to face. Our instant reaction is to react and or distract ourselves but this is why we have so many defilements in the first place. When we can just allow whatever is present to just be without clinging or avoiding then we are beginning to get somewhere instead of running around in circles. Trying to get rid of thoughts and achieve bliss and peace is just more aversion and clinging. Many people do this and I have done it myself in the past. Its called spiritual bypass and its a mistake. Wanting to feel happy and peaceful is a very worthy desire and good motivator but one must drop the craving for any kind of state and learn to be present with whatever is occurring. If you do this bliss and peace will arise on their own when the conditions are right.
