@salamandahman Thanks dude :) I mean every word
sounds amazing
This is cool! Funky chord changes
I'm surprised the view count on your videos are so low. Seriously, you're very skilled and I like your music. I came from your song "I feel so cold". Keep it up🔥
Hey thank you so much man I really appreciate your kind words! :)
🔥🔥🔥
awesome, has a sort of melancholic feel to it!! I love the transition from the more darker feeling in the first half to the more upbeat part in the second!! it feels like when you're in a depressing slump, but you move on and continue life anyway with hope, great song
This is so cool, dude! Love the vocals in the sad to my core part
Hey thank you so much my man I really appreciate that! :)
@salamandahman Yeah of course dude! Oh and im gonna be working on the Landslide video tonight, hopefully it'll be done. Life has been sorta weird but im getting back into the swing of things, sorry for the wait :)
Hey that's okay man I completely understand and there's no rush :) I hope things have been okay my man
@salamandahman Thanks for understanding :) I'm doing ok just haven't been as into music until now for some reason. I've been kinda demotivated but im getting back on my feet
Yeah of course my man! :) I feel you on that man, I get demotivated every once in a while and get in my head about music and don't write anything for a bit but that funk always goes away eventually and I'm glad you're getting back on your feet man! :)
Another banger from Salamandah man, keep it up. What tuning are you using?
Hey thank you homie I appreciate that! :) DADF#AD is the tuning
Hey just wanted to come back and say I'm still so happy this turned out. I remembered all the lyrics and sang along, cus they're that good!
Aw I'm so happy with how it turned out too man and that means a lot to me that you liked the lyrics that much and I'm grateful that we got to make a beautiful song together man! :)
Ooh goddamn those tapping parts are so good. Reminiscent of Clever Girl, maybe some Piglet. Classic math rock. I've never asked, wht are your favorite math rock bands?
Hey thank you homie I appreciate that a lot! :) some of my favorites are the fall of troy, invalids, ttng, minus the bear, Chon, delta sleep and this is a different genre but mathcore is also amazing and I love bands like the Dillinger escape plan and tony danza tapdance extravaganza! That's some of my inspirations and thank you for asking my influences man I always love that question! :)
Dude this is insane! You are truly an amazing musician and I can't wait to hear the album!
Hey thank you man that really means a lot to me and I appreciate you a lot man! :)
Oh yeah this is going in the playlist for sure! Thanks for sharing :D
This is awesome
its aweso e progress! i'd say press down on the strings a bit more, and just be confident in what you do! it might be kind of "fake it till you make it", but it does its job!
Gracias
Also one more question for anyone who happens to see this; my pegs have been slipping recently so I was wondering what's the safest way to fix that? I've read pushing hard while tuning helps create a wedging effect, but I've heard that damages it over time. So would paste or peg drops be the safest way?
Hi. You are doing excellently; you seem to have natural ability for it! I feel you will find your musicianship from other instruments will help you tremendously and are already an advantage to you (they greatly helped me -- harp, Dulcimer, etc. prior to me starting fiddle). Re: Peg slipping. Some possibilities and sorry if you know these already: 1) Humidity: if humidity too low, pegs can slip. 2) Improper string install (no offense meant). In my opinion, rather than peg drops or paste it is best to address 1 or 2 first. Not sure if you are playing a rental fiddle where place where you rented it could take a look or if this was an instrument you bought? So here goes: 3) This was something I had on my starter violin & it may or may not apply to yours -- My starter violin had peg fit issues to the point where they were giving me a constant battle -- in my case it was a 1940s era student grade violin that the luthier said it needed some stuff done cause all those years in student hands before mine, pegbox needed addressed (he was 100% right). Newer starter violins without professional setup, same type of thing (no offense meant) can happen. My local violin luthier had in his repair shop (cause he's a fiddle player) one of his personal violins which was fitted with Wittner Fine Tune Geared pegs and he handed it to me to try; I immediately loved the Wittner Fine Tune geared pegs. For I think about $150 total (cost was for pegs and labor for him to fit them and install on my student violin), they did solve my issues. In addition, I personally had a 4th issue going on where -- as an older adult, my older female hands had issues with hard to turn violin pegs. Do you have a violin shop nearby or a luthier who could take a look at your fiddle? The Wittner fine tuner geared pegs, I loved them so much, I had them installed on my student fiddle and on my upgraded violins that I got as I progressed. So as a caution, that first set of Wittners on my student violin-- for me, they were like "gateway Wittners." That first set made my fiddle learning journey & tuning life so much better without constant hassles that now I have them on all of my fiddles. A caveat: If one has a hugely expensive professional violin -- starting in really nice used car price range and going up into the $$$$$ area, in that situation geared pegs may be considered inappropriate [although in those instances of a professional grade fiddle, pegs are going to be well fitted to start with because $$$$$]. Wittner Fine Tune geared pegs did help me -- although they are something I recommend that a violin luthier install; I don't feel they are a DIY thing. Not trying to sell you anything -- wanted to share my personal experience as an adult fiddle learner because in the beginning when it is hard enough to learn this challenging instrument, one doesn't need added frustration of pegs derailing one's efforts. Sorry for writing you a LONG comment and hope the info didn't overwhelm. And a violin luthier looking at your fiddle, it might be a simple thing like string install where it won't cost much to correct obstacle. Congrats on starting your fiddle journey -- you are doing awesome for one week!!! Best, Lisa of Dream Aengus
Thank you very much to everyone who commented, your kind words of encouragement mean a lot to me and you've all given me some very helpful advice and I genuinely appreciate it! :)
I think is great progress, you got get em :) !
nice, man!! small suggestion.. just like guitar, pieces usually start with down bows on downbeats (not always but certainly ode to joy). you have a tendency to start with up bows. that'll throw ya off as you get to pieces with more intricate bowing. the tips others have given are great, too.. KEEP IT UP!!
Amazing job!!!! Especially for your first time. Something that will help when you are playing down the line is when you play lets say open 1, 2, (those are the finger positions if that makes any sense) keep your first finger down when you play your second note on the same string. Me explaining this probably makes no sense hahaha. I hope you post some updates of your playing in the future I think you will excel VERY well with this instrument 😁
really cool come jam
Hey your progress is amazing! Quick tip! Your bow might be easier to play with if it’s a little tighter. You can use the little nob on the end to tighten the tension. Amazing work! 🎉
I love this
You’re doing wonderful right now! You have some great instincts as a guitar player that are doing you well! I would work really slowly through your G major scale again. Your notes are right, and your intonation is great, but I would focus on using more direct bow weight and the right bow angle. Right now your bow looks to be leaning too far towards the scroll. I would check your bow hair tension too. Perhaps it’s too loose? I also like playing with a tighter bow than most. As a starting exercise, find on an open string what you think the best tone sounds like. Then apply that to all the notes to play. Let your arm sink into the instrument more. Other than that, your form looks great! Just make sure to keep space from the palm of your hand and the fingerboard. Keep trucking along! You’re making great progress.
Very nice stuff! Your Ode To Joy is much better than mine was after a week, since my violin was fuck out of tune xDD Ive also wanted to play violin for like my whole life and few weeks ago pulled the trigger and got one and started playing. Good luck on your violin journey!
that's not bad at all! that's some people's months' progress 🙌🏻
dope work salamandahhh. what/who are some of your influences?
Hey thank you my man I appreciate that! Oh shit I got hella things I could list I'll try to narrow it down haha. My Chemical Romance, Say Anything, The Smashing Pumpkins, Silversun Pickups, Tiny Moving Parts, Origami Angel, Weezer, Buckethead, Parkway Drive, The Fall of Troy, Dance Gavin Dance, We Came as Romans, Like Moths to Flames and plenty more! Thank you for asking man! :)
Dude i love this one. Especially the last part with the repeated lyrics. That melody is so good
Hey thank you homie I really appreciate that a lot! Also thank you for always listening to my music man it means a lot to me :)
@salamandahman Yeah of course dude!
HELL YEAH
Man, you'll crush the violin in no time. You're already stellar with strings. Once you get past the awkward holding positions, it'll be like butter on bread.
Dude nice! You should do more vids with talking :) you're funny
Hey thank you my man I really appreciate you saying that! I've thought about doing tutorials for guitar in the past so more videos with me talking might be coming in the future! :)
@salamandahman I look forward to em!
this was so lovely
Love it bro :)
Dude this is awesome. Btw are you looking for any collabs for this album?
Hey thank you man I really appreciate that! :) Yeah homie I was thinking about writing a song on piano one of these days for the album and was wondering if you'd like to come up with guitar/mandolin for it? :)
@salamandahman Yeah dude for sure! I have a bunch of acoustic instruments too, so if you ever need a pretty melodic part over smth like what you're talking about, I could try a few different things out :)
Fuego
This is super pretty. Happy for you dude!
Loved how it turned out dude :)
