      Ideally, it would be beneficial to work on improving your ratings, as this can significantly impact your advertising performance. Higher ratings tend to result in better conversion rates and click-through rates. If you can get your ratings above 3.5 stars, you'll likely see improved results. Now, in your specific case, this strategy is well-suited because it allows you to separate different match types and concentrate on the targeting that works best for your product. You might consider starting with close match and substitutes, as they offer more precise targeting. On the other hand, complements and loose match tend to have a broader reach, which can bring in more traffic but potentially lower-quality traffic and lower conversion rates. One advantage of this approach is that you can set up all these match types separately and test what works best for your product. This flexibility allows you to make adjustments as you gather data and insights. In contrast, if all these match types were in the same campaign, making effective adjustments would be more challenging. So, this strategy can be effective in various scenarios and provides room for optimization based on real-world results.

    Great video mate. Just a few qs: When initially launching, just to confirm, close match and substitutes are the places to start and we should not run a campaign for loose match and compliments. Also I know u didn’t mention anything about dynamic campaigns. What do you think abt that?

      Thank you for your support, and I'm glad I could assist you. My suggestion would be to start with "close match" and "substitutes" as they provide the closest targeting in automatic campaigns. The other two options, "complements" and "loose match," tend to be more broad, which can indeed bring in more traffic. However, this broader traffic might be of lower quality, potentially resulting in more clicks but lower conversion rates. Especially when you're in the early stages of your product's journey, it's advisable to keep your targeting as closely related to your product as possible. This approach can aid in improving your product's ranking and aligning it with Amazon's algorithm. Regarding the dynamic settings, I recommend starting with "down only" to help minimize costs in the initial phase. If your product is more established and further along in its journey, you can consider switching to "up and down." In such cases, you'd primarily use the auto-match to identify new terms. I hope this explanation helps clarify things for you! If you have any more questions or need further guidance, please feel free to ask.

    what can you say about a campaign with one ad group targeting the same keyword in three different match types? For example, in Campaign 101, Adgroup 101 is targeting the keyword 'candle' in exact match, 'candle' in phrase match, and 'candle' in broad match type.

      hi, this is a complex situation and hard to answer in a comment but ill give you a quick bit of advice: I think because you have a lot of variations its all about testing. But best advice is to start off with the best seller 1/2 variations (typically best conversion rate and sales), and target them with your main keywords and longer tail keywords you want your products to rank on. so then people land on your listing and have the chance to buy your other variations. with the rest of the variations if they are colour variations, perhaps you can target them more specifically, so you could run 1-3 campaigns on blue tshrit for men, or red tshirt slim fit etc. this way you're targeting specific keywords to those variations. and then its all about testing and looking at your performance to see what's working.

    Great and informative video. I have always set my automatic campaigns the default way, never thought about segmenting them by match types. Do you harvet keywords from automatic campaigns and then move them to manual campaigns while making those keywords negative in the automatic campaigns?

      Glad it was helpful! Yeah a lot of the time, I do negative exact them in the auto campaign so that I'm not competing against myself with the auto and manual. If you negative exact it, it still leaves open the opportunity for the auto campaign to come up with different combinations of that word to try and get additional conversions on.

    Thanks for sharing this strategy Adam. This was definitely helpful. Is this strategy effective for highly competitive products where the Bid ranges when running manual campaigns is considerably high?

      I think with regards to highly competitive products it also works well. This strategy is effective for highly competitive products with fluctuating bid ranges. It allows for quick adjustments when performance issues arise, such as low impressions or high acos and by keeping match types separate, you can allocate budget more effectively, responding to market dynamics in a targeted way, which is challenging when all match types are in a single campaign.
