    The torque wrench might be more accurate than the scales! 🙂 It may be worth mentioning for any viewers, if an adjustment seems desirable, with this design of wrench with a single adjustment available at the handle, this adjustment is for the least compression on the spring, commonly 20% of the range. Adjustment should be done with suitable choice of weight at the 20%, then repeat the check at the desired mid-range working torque. If it's now good, you're in luck and the spring ratio is still good. If you can't get it good in both spots, the spring could be out of spec, or the upper range torque adjustment has gone off. On these wrenches this is not accessible, the tool has to be dismantled and parts substituted or otherwise adjusted. If a mid-range adjustment is done without knowing whether other values are still correct, only that one torque value might be right.

    • @wrenchgearsadventures
      @wrenchgearsadventures หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I like using that bathroom scale inparticular because I'm always about 20 lbs. lighter on that one than the one at the Dr's office, (hahaha just kidding). I'll give it to you that the wrench should be checked at numerous spots along its range. As you said, start off at the 20% mark and go up from there. I like to make sure that this wrench is accurate at the 80-90 ft lbs area for all the wheels that this thing tightens on. This one gets used for multiple cars per day, x 20 wheel nuts on each vehicle, x going up in two stages of torqueing per wheel nut, and then sometimes click them all again to make sure I didn't miss one, x 10 weeks in the Spring, and 10 weeks in the Fall. This wrench literally has thousands and thousands of clicks on it. I just like to check out that mid-range in the Spring and in the Fall to make sure its still close. I have a few other wrenches that get used for somewhat more precise engine building and such. Good points you made there, I appreciate your input. Thanks for watching.

      @@wrenchgearsadventures Have you experimented at all with a digital torque adapter? They're budget now and quite accurate - could simplify multiple checking without juggling weights (I recognize the point of this video was using just what was to hand), but batteries can be a bugbear.

    • @wrenchgearsadventures
      @wrenchgearsadventures หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PlatypusPerspective No I haven't played around with the digital torque adapters at all. Might be something I could look into if they were reasonably enough priced. With the tanks ready to go, I unwind the hose out of the back of the truck and spend 10 seconds per tire topping them up. A small compressor might be a better option. Less space and weight.

    • @wrenchgearsadventures
      @wrenchgearsadventures 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I explored using a small compressor and running it off an invertor, but the cost of it all was going to be too much. When I use the tanks, I have enough capacity to top up about 4 - 5 cars worth of tire swaps when I had the 3 x 30 pack going. Problem is if I get to a car that has a flat tire, it uses so much air that it puts a cramp in the rest of the day. With the bigger air tank, I think things should be fine. Then when I get home, I just fill the tanks from my shop air compressor, and I'm good to go the next day. Thanks for watching and commenting.

      I googled it because I'm not sure what it is either. .... A dip tube (also known as an outage tube) provides vapor space above liquefied gases in a sampling cylinder so that if expansion occurs with an increase in temperature, the pressure is not significantly increased. Basically, the length of the dip tube is used to determine the filling capacity of the cylinder. .... So that's what I got from it. Thanks for watching and commenting

      It is a "safety " device that effectively decreases the contents of a full fill, thus increasing the price per pound. Also tanks without them were not filled, insuring the sale of replacement tanks. Lobbied in by the tank companies. Any surprise?

    Thank you for the video. Quick question - What is that grill like thing over the motor (the flap like thing with holes in it covering the vaccum motor)? Mine's torn and I'm wondering if it needs replacing or not. I'm guessing it prevents the plastic cover from melting from the heat?

    • @wrenchgearsadventures
      @wrenchgearsadventures 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honestly, I'm not a 100% sure. I think that your guess at it being a heat shield of sorts to protect the plastic outer cover is probably a good one. I'm not sure how crucial it would be though. They probably have the holes in it so the motor doesn't overheat. If yours it totally wrecked, you could try going without it and monitor the heat on the outside just by feeling it every now and then. If yours is just torn a little, leave it in there. Excellent video about Christmas light repair WrenchGear! Thank you for posting this video 😁 Would this type of repair also work for when I cut my extension cord with the hedge trimmer?

    • @wrenchgearsadventures
      @wrenchgearsadventures 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching. Although this is good for a thin strand of lights, it's probably not a good repair for your hedge trimmer cord. When moving your trimmer around, you are constantly pulling on the cord and putting stress on the repair. This type of repair isn't strong enough to withstand any abuse like that, and would most likely pull apart. This is ok for the lights as they will just be attached to a tree branch or your house and won't have any stress put on the repair. Good thought though, thanks.

    I'll be starting mine in the next week or two. I've been watching youtubes like crazy trying to prepare for this job. I'd be lying if I said I don't have some concerns but I'm on a fixed income, cannot afford a $20,000 bill from a roofer and I've learned that trusting a pro is no guarantee of a good roof. I had it re-roofed a couple years after I moved in in 1979. It looked good and lasted for about a year. Then a monster hail storm blew up and about half my shingles blew away. Insurance adjuster said the whole job was high nailed so the insurance company wouldn't cover it. So I had to dig in my pocket again and have the whole roof replaced. It held up pretty well but it's way past its expiration date and it's completely worn out and leaking everywhere, so I have to replace it. I have no debts whatsoever and absolutely refuse to borrow the money for a roofing company to come out and sell me another high nailed job. I'm going to break it up into sections like you did. I believe I have all the basic knowledge to tackle the job. My biggest concern is if I'm physically up to it. I'll be 72 in two weeks, so I know it will be slow going so I don't fall off the roof. Roof pitch is 5/12. Not too bad but I'll still be using a safety harness anyway. I'll be going with 3 tab shingles because of the lower price. It should outlast me and after that it will be someone else's problem. I broke my hip two years ago but it appears to have healed up just fine. Like I said, I'll be taking my time and thinking about every move I make up there. I'm thinking I'll get it done for about $5,000. I have that in savings Maybe I'll have it completed by spring, good Lord willing and the creek don't rise (and I don't fall off the roof.) I live alone so I'll have my Obamaphone in my pocket the whole time. If the fall doesn't kill me, I'll still be able to call 911....maybe.

    Can you just suck the oil out through the dipstick?

    • @wrenchgearsadventures
      @wrenchgearsadventures 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm sure you can do the whole dipstick tube thing. I don't have a set up for that. I know that a lot of people do that method, but I've never been a big fan of it. I would always wonder if I got all the oil out figuring that the suction tube didn't make it all the way down into the bottom of the pan. There also might be the possibility of pushing too much suction tube down there and maybe it curls up and doesn't get all the oil that way. If your engine isn't set up with the drain tube like I have, then maybe the next best step might be to suck it up the tube as opposed to doing the old garbage bag in the bilge to drain the oil into.

    Just pour hot wax into the hole . there gone and you have a collectible item to look at after you dig it up and wash it off.

    Not a bad display but I sort of think my backyard display killed your towns display lol. Seriously, you had some nice mystical pyro in there but I don't think your town came close to the intensity of my backyard display :) th-cam.com/video/j26q3jT72ec/w-d-xo.html

      Good to know that there are some fast talkers out there. Sorry that i tend to rambler on a bit. Oh well, thanks for watching it anyway.

      @@wrenchgearsadventures Your post is well done and you seem very personable, but if you look at how many others deal it you'll see that many are under five minutes long, and that they're not talking fast. TH-cam is a crowded place these days, and people are busy.

    the tool is a good idea. I would emphasize to use the tool only to loosen the plug, not tighten it. it should be hand tightened only. i found that using the tool to tighten the plug results in it stripping. further, it seems that backing off on the plug if it is overtightened, stops the leaking (perhaps the o ring can get crushed). Finally, even with a bit of leaking to start, once the engine heats up the leak will often stop due to expansion of the plug

      Thanks. Good thought there Kevin ,... I don't have pets, and I never really see any roaming the neighbourhood, but its a good question to throw out there just in case... How Much Borax Is Toxic to Dogs and Cats? (Heather Handley, DVM, Senior Consulting Veterinarian, Clinical Toxicology) "Any ingestion could cause an upset stomach and self-decontamination via vomiting," Handley says. Handley adds that it "is not likely" that a dog or cat would be able to ingest the lethal dose of nearly 1 gram of borax per kilogram of their body weight.

      It has about the same toxicity as salt but it's so bitter that most mammals would not eat much.

    Great content WrenchGear! Can you make a video about changing the oil in a snowblower/ lawnmower?

    • @wrenchgearsadventures
      @wrenchgearsadventures 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks very much for the suggestion. I do have oil change procedures on a push lawnmower, and also a riding lawnmower in videos about how I winterize those pieces of equip. I'll make one in a couple of months or 3, on a snowblower as it gets closer to winter around here. Hope you can wait that long. I'm always open to suggestions. Thanks.
