The Nick Rodriguez Phenomenon
ADCC 2019 was not just about the resurgence of leg locks.
It was the rise of a new kind of athlete.
One that the world had never witnessed before.
When 23 year old Nick Rodriguez stepped up to compete on the worlds biggest stage of submission grappling with less than 2 years of Jiu Jitsu, few gave him even a snowballs chance to last the 1st few rounds.
But with a decade long experience in collegiate wrestling & months of intensive training in John Danaher's submission systems, he knew that's all he needed to grab some silverware that night.
If Lachlan Giles walked away with the moniker of "Giant Slayer" that evening, it was Nicky Rod who secured victories against 3 ADCC veterans (Mahamed Aly, Orlando Sanchez & Cyborg Abreu) with 20+ years of experience on his way to secure the +99kg Silver medal.
(One of which was 2013 ADCC Absolute Champion Roberto 'Cyborg' Abreu)
If it wasn't for Kaynan Duarte's back take in the dying minutes of the final, he might even have won the gold.
For the 1st time a Blue belt stood on the podium of ADCC.
Few could even believe their eyes.
But was he a just an ORDINARY Blue Belt ?
Or was their something else that the world didn't see coming ?
Watch this as I sit down and discuss the "The Nick Rodriguez Phenomenon" with Veteran Black Belt Adam Kayoom.

Are Leg-Locks The Future Of Jiu-Jitsu ??
มุมมอง 773 ปีที่แล้ว
ADCC 2019 marked a monumental shift in the Grappling World. Australia's Lachlan Giles was at the centre of that shift, when he entered the absolute division and Leg-locked 3 veteran heavyweight blackbelts to secure the Bronze medal. The most impressive thing about this victory was that Lachlan was one of the lightest competitors in that division weighing less than 77kgs while all his opponents ...

Adam is a 'man for all seasons'. One of the Originals in S.E.Asia ... and more importantly, someone who brings great value to the landscape. Anyone who shares times with him will be better off for having had the experience. I, for one, am privileged to know him.

your backs against the barroom wall and you have no where to run, now what? I'm a former bouncer and have been in this very situation and handled it. sir, your advice while it looks good on paper but add some real world and you can't always run and escape. so what is your advice for the scenario above???

    • @meetthemasters754
      @meetthemasters754 4 ปีที่แล้ว

The above advice was aimed by the guest specifically for a survival based scenario where saving one's life is the victims priority. In your case, where you have an professional obligation to safeguard your environment from violence, the best option should be to deal with the "tough guy" first asap all the while keeping a single avenue of attack for your attackers to minimize any surprise interventions. If you've got the KO power that'd surely be helpful. If not, better carry your brass knuckles and have your other bouncer buddy for back up. Either way there are no guarantees. Glad you dealt with it the way you could.
