We were fortunate not to have been there when the big wave of water came or we would have been swept away.

Hurricane Helene Relief bridge after destruction Mitchell County, NC

Video is off my dash cam in my rollback tow truck. This is one way for us to get out. The bridge would not pass an inspection and is EXTREMELY unsafe, but we have very little options to get out. As of today 10/21/2024 they are still pulling bodies from the debris under the bridge.

Hurricane Helene day 6 Toe River along Pigeon Roost and Huntdale communities Mitchell County, NC. This is how we were delivering supplies and checking on people for over a week. A lot of spots 4 wheeled off road vehicles were too big to get through. Dirt bikes were the best way to get through the debris. Life was very difficult at the time of the video.

Relief bridge Mitchell County, NC 2 hours before the wall of water came through. I could feel the trees hitting the bridge columns, it was shaking the bridge enough I got off it real fast.

Have not rode at Doe Mountain in forever. It was nice to get back riding with the gang. Husky sure makes an awesome piece of machinery! Now if I can learn to ride it, things will be great!

On the way back to the parking lot, we took M1 backwards. John on his Husky 300 started to pick up the pace to a race pace.

Thanks to the good guys you are in helping out. Flooding isn’t surprising to me but the amount of destruction and devastation is overwhelming. It all shows that Climate changes is no joke. Thanks again.
Mother Nature can Kill ya . Worst thing is Floods. We got swamped 13 years ago. 16” of rain in a day. You help your family ,friends,and strangers. I still have a 2” 245 GPM Pump that I hope I never need to use. Used it almost all day, one day back then.
I collapsed on day 6 from severe dehydration and exhaustion. They had to rush me to the hospital with blood oxygen levels at 84! Non smoker. My blood was so thick they had trouble drawing blood.
Yep, you’re right. I live in WV Appalachia Mountain and see many floods and lots of destruction.. With climate change, more and worse yet to come. Good luck to all..
@ I love WV ,Kentucky,been down there 9 times Riding the Hatfield/McCoy trails. Really nice people down there.Steep Steep hillsides ,that water has to go somewhere, and it comes down fast on them hills. California is getting whacked again and again. Some people don’t think climate change is real. When you get a once in 1000 year flood only a few years apart . Yuppers I think we Screwed our planet and Mother Nature is never going to be happy again.

Caught all of us off guard. It showed the good people and showed us the bad people.
I was in Poplar NC all Day yesterday working for CSX Railroad I think.. I delivered 3 loads of PUG from Kingsport TN. It broke My Heart getting there, through all the little communities in between. And its been way over a Month. Please Pray for all these towns affected by this storm. And to make things worse, the temp is dropping fast. Wont be long and snow will be all over these Mountain People.. I truly believe this will be the year We get that Horrible Blizzard we have lucked out on getting..

THIS ONES GOING TO HURT YOU FOR A LONG LONG TIME. Comes to mind as I drove through listening to Travis tritt sing..From the air,it looked like a war zone,a war lost by so many.the landscape forever changed for the next generation. Time and mother nature will heal the land in time,but time..
After being completely trapped for the first 3 days, we are getting the hang of this now. Peoples spirits are starting to rise where we see hope now. I lost power for 2 1/2 weeks. Some in the deeper hollars still are without power. We are helping everyone as much as possible. The government turned their backs on all of us!

Yep...I’m high on my ve33s gekotta too lol. Ready to come back to Doe. Be nice if some of that overhead stuff was cut out in some spots so it wasn’t like riding a crotch rocket thru there, but other than that I love it

I just found out about this place recently. Is it worth a 2 hour drive? Enough for a day of riding?
No. Do not drive 2 hours to ride Buffalo. It's a nice local trail. Look up Doe Mountain Recreation Area. That is a 2 hour drive for me and I ride there almost every weekend. There is over 100 miles of trails there. Enough to stay at one of the campgrounds that border the park. Ride the whole weekend.
So its an out and back trail? Do you run into many people coming the other direction?
Well, if the parking lot is full, would be a good idea to not go as fast. We still keep a sharp eye out for oncomming traffic. When I ride on a 2 way trail, I'm always looking through the curves for traffic.

Haha ya, the bike took a bounce. After seeing that video, I set the rebound damping as soft as it would go so that won't happen again.
Fun looking trail, is this one of the "M" single track trails on the map? Or is it at least marked off on one of the trails?
It is marked on the newer singletrack maps, but not on the one that Doe has to offer. Our group is Appalachian Singletrack Riders on Facebook. We have maps in the photos tab.

NCWorkingdogs yea I noticed that later on in the video great woods bikes. Have one my dad rides he loves it. Have you done any suspicion mods to yours?
@@bobbyratliff3349 no it is all stock. I do not ride it as hard as I could. It is my spare ride, I bought it for my wife, but she does not ride it. If I ride it like a 250 2 stroke, I would blow out fork seals, which I have done 3 times. So now it is just the "chill" casual ride bike. If anyone says the CRF230 is a crap bike....show them this video, keeps up just fine with the big boy 300 2 strokes!
NCWorkingdogs yes you would have never made me believe a 230 could do what it will do untill I got one. We pulled the inner baffle out not the whole spark arrestor just the inner pea shooter jetted it 45/120 4th clip and it made a great motor even better and isn’t real loud either. I’m a big guy and I’ve ridden it quite a bit I can’t help but smile every time I ride it.

That is the main loop trail, I forget the number. If memory serves me correct, it is a 11 mile loop if you don't take any side trails. Rated for mid-beginner to intermediate. It is a fun place to ride.
The video from Wayehutta with a time of 8:19 is the same trail, but we started from the end and ran it backwards which does make it a different ride hitting everything the opposite way.
