Harvey’s snooker growing up journal
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 22 เม.ย. 2023
This channel is recording the process of myself growing up as a beginner snooker player.
On Nov 2022, my friend, Isaiah, took me to buy my first snooker cue. After one week practicing, I joined my first snooker tournament, Jim Couper Cup. At that time, I didn’t even know the rule of snooker well, and of course I was beaten badly, didn’t win a single frame.
I used to play American pool a lot. I have lots of experience on how to play pool not well. So I take snooker as my second life of cue-sports and I really want to do it well. My plan is to learn snooker by the best materials and avoiding all those bad habits I’ve ever done on my pool games. And I’ll see if I can become a good player asap.
Hopefully one day I can travel around for playing tournaments and finger crossed I can get some prize to cover the costs.

Snooker T drill practice (Day 73)
You need to learn to separate the process of aiming and cueing.
You focus on aiming and then put your whole body as a cannon on the table towards where you aim.

I’ve come back. It’s been a busy season. I was playing NZ 9 ball tournament and 10 ball tournament in November and then went to my friend’s wedding in December. After that I got flu so I haven’t been playing snooker for almost 2 months. But the good thing is that I had time to rethink about all the fundamentals of the walk in progress of shooting balls. So I got some insights and changed the st...

When I pot the recovery pink ball with the long rest, I thought I was gonna complete this drill today. All of the sudden, I hit the next straight red not firm enough and missed it. ;(
47 Break in tournament

Normally, I play very tight and wouldn’t be able to make any high break in tournaments. Luckily I recorded this, although it just a handicap tournament in my club.
Snooker T drill practice (Day 68)

Still practicing “aiming before feathering” on this one. It doesn’t work too well on positional play but good on potting balls. So I did a few recovery shots on this one.
Snooker T drill practice (Day 67)
มุมมอง 9742 หลายเดือนก่อน
Jim Couper Snooker Open destroyed my confidence of potting balls last weekend. I was in a great form just before that tournament but suddenly played like a beginner on that tournament. Therefore, I paused my training for a week after the tournament. Today is my first day back on the table. And I decided to change my walk in routine a little bit. Which is stopping feathering until I set up my st...

My form is back on today. Don’t forget set the speed and strength of your stroke before you walk in. It will chance your stance slightly and lead you missing the shot.
Snooker T drill practice (Day 65)
มุมมอง 3013 หลายเดือนก่อน
Finally found a way that I can make sure I am on the aiming line while walking into the shot the other day. I feel confident with my stance and cueing straight but somehow I couldn’t build break as high as previous few videos did. Weird…

Just practice with the insight from yesterday. I was trying to make it more natural today.
Snooker T drill practice (Day 63)
มุมมอง 3563 หลายเดือนก่อน
I learned something from today’s practice. 1. Don’t let your cue touch your palm centre. 2. Aim for direction not for pockets. 3. Focus on hitting the centre of the cue ball when you on a slightly off straight ball.

Snooker T drill practice (Day 61)

Didn’t play well tonight because I was trying to play it more “naturally” like those child prodigies. Relaxing too much made my potting rate not stable.
Snooker T drill practice (Day 60)
มุมมอง 6483 หลายเดือนก่อน
I focused on my cue ball control today. And found I am not familiar with stun forward shot. This kind of shots are actually very useful on break building. So many times I stop my break building in competition because I use follow shot instead of stun forward shot. I’m gonna practice on this kind of shot for a while and hopefully it will help me on my next tournament.

Lovely long red
Thank you mate. It’s from bad positioning. Lol
Happy new year Harvey!
Happy new year to you too! All the best.
Do the christmas tree routine harvey thats more challenging as you need to make a cannon to clear....and its festive
Thanks for your interesting idea, Byrom. I may try it on my Christmas holiday. Lol
Some good shots in there! You're getting better. High score in game?
Thank you mate. In games, my high break is 64 so far.
You cued them lovely today
Thank you. I felt I was in a good form too.
Lovely break 👍
Thanks, mate. 🤜🤛
Well done! Good man!
Thanks man. Im getting there.
👍
what glove are you using? nice break!
Thank you! Just a random cuesport glove I bought in Taiwan, lol.
Not bad at all 👍
Thank you, mate!
not bad there is a current pro called pang with similar technique high at back like you ....th-cam.com/video/OonZ96SojTk/w-d-xo.html&lc=UgzhNF-SQKXvKI6cyNt4AaABAg.AA1VyNYrB-DAA1jsV279vt
Thanks for pointing it out. It’s not a technique just a habit, lol.
@@harveysnooker if it works it works -
Lovely break 👍
Thanks mate
That last black is a hard shot to get right ,good effort 👌
The angle was slightly too straight on that black so I hit it hard. Apparently not hard enough. Lol
@@harveysnooker 👍
3:30 its quite obvious what happened, you needed those people to keep on talking to distract you from thinking 😂. The moment they left look what happened
Lol, actually when I play shots I would rather people keep doing what they are doing than they deliberately stay still and looking at your shots suddenly. I think that’s more distracting to me.
Just needed to follow through a bit more on that last black to really get the screw effect off the cushion, other than that brilliant work 👌
Thanks, bro. Yeah, I was trying to screw it back just off the rail for the middle pocket. But like you said, I didn’t give it enough back spin so it stayed on the rail.
Never tried this before, nice job and nice action, envious :)
Thank you very much! Give it a try. T drill is not a easy drill.
the pocket size 8.2cm?
I don’t know, man. It’s a pretty average club table, not too wide not too tight.
Great start clearing the side of the T 👍
Thanks, mate. Actually I always try to clear those 3 balls around the pink as soon as possible.
What club is this ?
Jclub
Nice! What are the biggest lessons you've learned in the last 3 months?
Good question. I would say cueing straight on using different degrees of power before you trying to adjust your accuracy of potting balls. Because I’ve been wasting too much time on potting balls with my “confident” speed.
@@harveysnooker Thanks for the reply! Makes sense, keep going!
You have a nice practice club, see you soon
Yes, it is. Come to play Jim Couper Snooker Tournament!
Unlucky on that last pink, that break was nice and controlled 👍
I didn’t draw back the cue ball on the red before the pink so I got a wrong angle for the pink. And I was thinking about controlling the speed to make the cue ball closer to the next red so I missed the pink.
@@harveysnooker its amazing how many things you think about seconds before you play the shot
@@147snookered04 we are just talking about practice. As for tournaments, there are even more to consider in one shot. lol
@@harveysnooker yeah two different games
Well done Harvey it’s nice and quiet there, what time of day is that?
It was around 8-9pm, I think.
@@harveysnooker wow very quiet for that time 🤔
@@JJSnookerChannelyeah sometimes it’s quiet here but sometimes you can find a spare table.
Well played Harvey
Thank you, bro. 🙌
你的出杆是直的,只是球擺得太歪了
這是一個有趣的新觀點,謝謝!
👍
cue ball on baulk line?this drill im only average 3/10.best run 5/10.
Yeah, on the baulk line. Oh it’s hard. I don’t actually take it as a drill. Just filming it to adjust my cueing.
Are you allowed to go for Black in this drill? I thought working your way to Black was the idea
Using pink ball is the easiest to get to the next red without touching the cushion. But yes, you are allowed to pot any colour in this drill.
Getting better 😎
Thanks 👍
Well done Juddy. I think you spell the area Hawkes Bay
👍
Thanks mate. It’s not too good this time. 😓
@@harveysnooker This drill is not easy
@@147snookered04yeah. Maybe I should go back to train some fundamentals.
@@harveysnooker Are you going for a century or clearance ?
@@147snookered04I’m going for clearance in drills and century in real games.
Nice long red 👍
Thanks, mate. It’s just a dead straight shot.
Nice effort close to the 100 break 👍
Thank you mate. I’m aiming to finish the drill in one run.
That recovery shot on the red was brilliant
Thanks, mate! I was shocked by the unwanted check side on the black ball and felt relieved after the recover shot. 😂
@harveysnooker shots like that can make the difference in making a big break
Great effort. The last rest shot was really good 👍
Thanks man. Yeah I was forced to choose that rest shot because missed positioning for the pink and had had to pot the blue instead. 😅
Nice effort. This drill is not easy
Thanks mate It’s tougher than I thought it was.
Insane skill, top job. Enjoy your holiday!
Thank you, mate. I’ll have a good time.
Well done, great effort I'm struggling with this drill too ive set myself a target 100 break my best is 82 its a tough one for sure 👍
Well done. 82 is over 10 reds as pink ball is usually chosen in T drill. Yeah, it’s tough. It’s been taken me 50 practice days for this drill. Normally a pro can finished it in 3 tries, so still a long way to go.
great to see you back. hope you get better . Great video. Hopefully you complete the T Drill soon
Thank you for your feedback and for reading my video’s description, bro:)
Do you practice only one thing at a time like when you are posting about lineup are you practicing only lineup and how much do you practice a day
Yeah I practice only one drill a time. Normally I’ll practice it for 2hrs per day if I can get a free table. Otherwise, I have to play with whoever comes to those tables. However too much practice hurt my back recently so I have to stop my routine for a while.
Hi I am really loving your videos I am watching all one by one really enjoying it would be easy if you put break thanks
Hi, Waqas. Thank you for watching my videos and sharing your feedback. I don’t actually count breaks on my daily routine so I have no clue how much is it. lol.
good quality tho, camera or GoPro ?
Either of them, bro. It’s filmed by my iPhone 13.
How old are you?
Old enough to join snooker tournaments. lol
@harveysnooker you cue well in your practice vids. This game was a shocker though ay? I'm in Whangarei. Highest break for me is 38. The good players at my club score 30s and 40s regularly. Occasional 50 break.
Thank you, Adam. I’m managing to keep my cueing in practice in tournaments. Wow, good to know there are many good players in Northland! You guys can play some NZBSA tournaments in Auckland, I think those are the closest to you. www.nzbsa.org.nz/calendar-2
How much difference do you think the glove makes to your potting performance? I've seen them used in pool but never in snooker.
I’ve got used to playing with a glove since I started playing pool years ago. The benefit is that I don’t need to worry about my cue being sticky and don’t need to wipe it with a damp cloth which I believe it causes the cue bend. There are some younger generation snooker players starting wearing gloves as well.
@@harveysnooker thanks for the reply, but what I meant was does it improve your cueing at all? Not just help minimise cue maintainence. 👍
@@MinifigureMultiverse I wouldn’t say it’s improved but it keeps my cueing action smooth just like my bridge with fingers are not sticky yet. Hope this answer your question.
@@harveysnooker it does, thanks 👍 Very nice potting by the way, you were very unlucky on the final shot. A "rattler".
@@MinifigureMultiverseYou are welcome:) Thanks, I need to train to be more stable on those basic shots.
Still, that's very impressive.
Thank you. I’m getting there but still missing simple shots.
Using a spotted cue ball might help you calibrate sighting of where you are striking white much faster.
True, the billiards cue ball can show how it spins as well.
Good shootin' brother
Thank you, Captain Jack. lol
Well played bro, keep it up, I think u will do it next time , very soon u ganno be best snooker player
Thank you so much 😀 I’ll keep improving my skills and waiting for that day comes.

Thank you, John! I hope I can complete this T drill with my new stance soon:)
