CFMOTO 800MT Gets New Shoes! (Mitas E-07+)
Hey and welcome back! I've had a set of Mitas E-07+ tyres fitted to the CFMOTO 800MT Touring edition so I thought I'd give you my first impressions. Spoiler alert! They're amazing! Well, good enough for a rider with my modest abilities ;)
Enjoy the video - sorry it's not all that slick. As I explain, the GoPro made making this video a bit of a chore. If you have any camera recommendations drop them in the comments below!

Royal Enfield Classic 350 Ride and Review

Wait, what? A Royal Enfield??? Yes - today I'm on my wife's RE Classic 350 for a quick ride after it has spent the majority of winter hibernating in our shed. This shake down reminds me just how much I love this little bike - it's full of character and perfect for scenic riding. So the CFMOTO has the day off, but I'll have some more content for that coming out soon! Thanks for watching - please...

Top Five things I DON'T like about the CFMOTO 800MT Touring

At this point, I'm a bit of a cliche, I know... But here are the top five things I dislike about owning the CFMOTO 800MT Touring (Ibex). They may or may not be what you expect. LOL - It's all about the click bait. I love this thing ;)
Here in Malaysia we get 3 boxes totally free with the bike, or maybe they included them in the price... The boxes use the same key to open, close or disengage them from the brackets.
Nice!
What was your highway speeds. Is it easy to cruise at 80mph/130kmh with a pillion/passanger?
The highest the speed limit got up in the hills where we were riding was 100kmh and it did it easily.
that color is the best i've seen.. haven't even seen one like this!
Thank you! It's the "Limited Edition" version - I agree - this my favourite colour too :)
I have a 800mt explore, 10000km. You need to growup, if you like the bike, enjoy it. Other peoples opinions don't matter. The camshaf tissue does concern me a little. But i understand cfmoto modified the head, oil pump and crankshaft. So hopefully its fixed. I love the wifi sotfware updates. The slow speed engine management issue is fixed as of a few days ago. It goes reallly well, eats gravel roads. Iwas going to have a 890 ktm, this was 30% cheaper. It is awesome
I don't think I need to grow up. My point was that perhaps people should not be dicks. Doesn't seem like too much to ask. I do enjoy the bike, as I attest to in all of my videos - very much so. And I'm not at all concerned about the camshaft issue either. It impacts KTM 790 engines prior to 2020.
Nice review! I'm about to hit 5000 miles on mine and it really is a great bike overall if you have the right expectations for it.
Love my CFMoto 800 MT. I have had 3 BMW R1200GS and I can honestly say that this bike ticks all the boxes, and more, compared to the GS. The only small issue I had was the mirrors self adjusting at speed. I am waiting for replacements under warranty but have fitted Double Take mirrors for now. I feel what you are saying about people bad mouthing the product just because its Chinese and endorsed by KTM.
Hi i came dangerously close to pulling the trigger on one. I just had concerns about about the cam issues with the 790/890 engines.
It was definitely something that concerned me, however I was satisfied with reports from MCN and the like that CFMOTO addressed this issue when they took over production of this engine and (touch wood) there haven’t been any issues from 2020 onwards.
This colour was discontinued in 2023 , how did you get one? 😮
We managed to snap one up before then thank goodness 😉. Have you seen the new colours they’ve just released? They look fantastic!
Thanks for your reviews Ben. Your reviews are great and will help me move from my ST1100 armchair to a bike that will take me of the beaten track in my retirement. I have been interested in this bike for some time. One question, what is it like to move about when loaded pushing it around. Thanks Moe plays rhythm .
Hey Moe, thanks for watching the videos and taking the time to leave a comment. I chased an ST1100 through South Gippsland a few months ago. I was so surprised with its capability. I find the 800MT really manageable to move around. The big pillion grab handles come in exceptionally handy. The fact that it’s quite tall means that I don’t have to stoop to move it around, so it’s pretty easy on the old back 😉.
@@benplaysbass2491 Thanks for reply Ben. Yep the ST goes really well and is great for big kilometres loaded up. My dickey knee means i am not confident moving it about. The CF is looking very much at the front of the picks for me. Love all the Bass gats in the video. Moe plays rhythm
Do you remind them its the same factory that makes KTM,s Harley gets parts made in China. Honda, suzuki, many others do to.
I shouldn’t let it get to me - most rational people know that large portions of what we buy are made up of components from China. That’s just the nature of the global market. Thanks for leaving a comment and checking out the video 😊
Hi new subscriber here from philippines..
Thanks for subscribing! I’ve just ordered some new tyres so stay tuned for some new content.
Dear Ben, thanks for your observations. I'm sad that that other people's words can annoy/upset/irritate you greatly. I'm always puzzled why a comment from someone not known to us, with unknown experiences and qualification and motives, can impact us so such. If by some miracle, feedback was created by a sheep dog carefully typing, then we would ignore those comments without thought. Isnt that the same for someone who we have no ide of???? That you took about 8 mins to express your irritation shows me the sad sorry impact of social media on our thoughts. The driving light mounts seems abit weak, although their demise was due to an impact and they didn't rattle off or fail of their own accord. The snatchy throttle is known and stock tyres, well buy the bike with desired tires to suit you riding. the stock treads were never going to work well off road. I look forward to seen the 4350MT on the gravel roads etc. For $10k its a very affordably bike. I haven't seen the 800 in Melbourne yet but think it would be a great option to the other sized bikes, especially if cheaper and slightly lighter. Thanks for making the video and best for continued happy riding. Regards Matt
Thanks Matt, you’re right - it gets to me far more than it should and there are much more important things in the world to be concerned with. But the 8 minutes it took me to spit it out is probably more of an indication of how inarticulate I am to be truthful 😂. In the grand scheme of things I don’t lose much sleep over this. I do genuinely wish that everyone would become a little bit more kind and compassionate towards each other - that’s certainly how I’m raising my sons. Many thanks for taking the time to leave a comment and a meaningful/positive one at that 😊
If you're gunna repaint those crash bars do it in the 2 part Raptor coating..The stuff is tough as nails and hard to scratch..I've used it on a lot of parts on my 4wd and recommend it to just about everyone I come across for a good scratch resistant coating.. Hey mate. You'll need to lock the top box on with the key. We are both from the Traralgon area and i lost mine on a rough dirt road up from home here in Tyers. I’ve just been watching a few of your videos which I came across by accident. Firstly I’d like to say thank you for posting as I enjoyed hearing your storey. Whilst I live in the U.K. I have a son and his family over there in Victoria. I’d love to get out there to live but I’ve looked into it and it’s a very difficult process at my age 64 but hopefully I’ll get out on a 5 year visa in the not too distant future. I must say you are spot on with your life observations, motorcycles are a great escape from day to day life and have kept me sane for a long time now(47 years). I’ve got a BMW 1250 rt and a Moto Guzzi V7 850 but I will give them both up to live over there and have something like your CF moto. Good luck to you, keep enjoying your riding. Whilst your riding there’s no stress of life to worry about so ride as much as possible.take care over there

Just subscribed! Loved this! And the editing was excellent! Thank you from New Jersey, USA!
Oh man, thanks heaps! Means a lot. It’s so great to hear from you.
I think if you enjoy your cf moto that’s all that matters. It seems like a great product as well does the 450 at a great price, in fact I’ve been strongly looking at the 450 for my next bike. I currently have a KLR and see people online bagging on them all time but I don’t mind it’s good enough for my skill level right now.
KLR’s look they could survive a nuclear holocaust- such a great bike! The 450MT is an interesting proposition though. An 800 and 450 wouldn’t be too much to ask, surely!?
Mate, I do not own any KTM/CF MOTO, but I have recently watched and seen the problems with the cam shafts. That apparently is being going on for years. Problem not solved yet. Apparently, Aprilia 660 has problems with the cams as well. Same with most of the KTM 790/890 motors. I saw the pics of the new KAWI KLR 700 for 2025.
@@2631Fred I haven't seen a single issue with the cams on the CFMOTO version of this particular motor - that's not to say they're not out there. MCN did report that the cam issue was resolved in 2020 with KTM which was when the 800MT hit the market. Cross your fingers for me that this remains the case. All this said, I can't remember owning a car or motorbike in my 42 years of existence that didn't have known issues... I'm about to have another fight on my hands getting Nissan to actually follow through on their warranty and I once had a Mitsubishi off the road for almost six months waiting for repairs!
@@benplaysbass2491 I saw a guy in the USA with BMW sport bike issues. Took him 10 months to get BMW to replace the engine. MADNESS!! I grew up when we still had guarantees. a Different story altogether. Good old days.
Great video mate. Enjoyed the honest look on life. Love it.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Made my day 😉
I almost bought this bike last week but the dealer didn't give me a good price on my current ride so I couldn't do a trade in. I think I'll wait a bit more for the Kove 800X. These Chinese bikes are getting better. Yes, work environment is very important. I'm willing to travel a bit further daily to work with a good team.
Thanks Charlie - the Kove's look amazing. I would love to hear your thoughts if you get one ;)
Yes, there is no dealer yet in Australia so we'll have to play by ears. Hopefully I can get one before WW3 started. Lol
A very deep, thoughtful and honest video. That must have taken great strength and courage to do. I currently ride a Triumph Rocket Classic. I started riding when I was 12yrs old and started on road riding at the age of 16yrs old. I am now 61 and still enjoy riding as much now as I did when I first started. I am a disabled rider and the freedom the bike gives me is amazing. When I put on that helmet to the rest of the world I am not disabled, I am 'normal'. For want of a better word. When I ride I am free if my constraints, my worries, my issues. I have no plans if giving up and look forward to many more adventures. I wish you well on your ride to recovery.
Thank you so much for your response. It gave me goosebumps. They really are freedom machines aren't they?
kilometers, that's what countries that haven't landed men on the moon use
Apparently as of 2018, 17 countries in the world use mph whereas the remaining 196 countries use kmh. I just can't believe that there are 16 countries out there with the audacity to use mph when they haven't even landed so much as a dog on the moon.
Have you riden the 650mt? Would that be suitable for pillion?
No, I would love to though.
Any vibration problem for pillion ?
Hey, none whatsoever.
Maybe it's the American in me, but if some jackass came up to me and immediately said my bike was "crap", I would unleash a verbal wrath of insults back at them. Chances are, this being America and whatnot, whoever insults me will be a fat Harley fanboi, which gives me a lot to work with when it comes to verbal insults.
😂😂😂
Ask the harley owner what's the difference between a harley and a hoover vacuum. When he asks what, tell him the position of the dirt bag. 🤣🤣
You need a radiator guard too! And i'm so confused, normally, the top box and the panniers comes in as factory install on the 800mt model. Not sure why you didn't get them.
You’re right - I should get a radiator guard. I think I might pull the trigger… the boxes didn’t come with my bike as it was imported to be used at the Australian MotoGP. I was able to pick it up very cheaply as a result, but it was unfortunate not to come with at least the top box.
They used to have this mentality about Japanese stuff hence the term "jap cr*p"
And it's always funny to me to hear these stories about "human rights violations", "democracy" and other horror stories of Western propaganda) Friends, this is already such an outdated "Fairy Tale" of Western politicians that it makes no sense to talk about it. People live in China, not a bit worse than in Europe, the United States and other "democratic" countries. No one shoots them or oppresses them. People also live, work, and create families. Thanks a lot for the video. I've been looking at this motorcycle for a long time.
The Australian Government likes to lock up refugees and whistleblowers, so we certainly shouldn’t be criticising - thanks for the comment!
I have had one for 40k and the throttle still bugs me, A DNA air filter plus a Smart Moto shunt to bypass the oxy sensors helped but putting a 42t rear sprocket has given the best improvement. It allows the motor to work in it's sweet spot longer in a higher gear . ( they need to have the throttle open to fuel properly ) ....
Wow - 40k! That’s good to hear. Still running ok, other than the annoying fueling?
Throttle relearn procedure sort out snatchy, jerky throttle. Most people think it’s fuel map issue.
I’ve done almost 20,000 kms on mine so far and can’t fault it. It’s essentially my daily ride unless it’s raining when I leave for work.
I’m seeing more and more examples of this. Could it be that we are finally seeing something in the motorcycling world that represents value for money???
i have the exact same bike and love it. i agree with the china " size " issue you brought up and it is very true about how some people have no issue buying something like a washing machine from china but not a motorbike....strange phenomenon
@@paulmcgreal8750 I know right!? The irony is that a lot of online hate towards this bike/brand are typed on Chinese made devices 🤦🏻
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Ben. I’m over in the UK and have had my MT800 Explore for two months now. In that time I have lost count of the number of people that have commented about it being a Chinese bike! However, I have been riding for over 40 years and the MT800 Explore is one of the better bikes I have owned. People forget they said the same things about the Japanese bikes when they started coming into the UK back in the day. Look where they are now 😉. Thanks so much for the comment. It means a lot. I’m actually finding the videos therapeutic so there will be more to come.
The KTM engine with all its cam shaft problems really puts me off this bike. I know it's got a 4 year warranty but that doesn't ease my misgivings on this engine.
CFMOTO corrected the camshaft issue and there haven’t been any issues with them since they began using them in this platform as far as I know. There are some really good technical drawings getting around showing the differences in the cylinder head in the CFMOTO and current KTM’s and the ones experiencing the camshaft failure. I also read that only .2% of the 790 engines have been impacted by this issue - don’t quote me on that though. It could be KTM spin.
@@benplaysbass2491 Hey, any chance you could put up a link to those technical drawings you speak of? I've been exhausting myself on Google trying to find them and got no luck.
@@shortattentionspangarage1312 hmmm, me also. If I find them I’ll link them here. If I found them once I can find them again.
@@shortattentionspangarage1312 meanwhile, here’s a link to an MCN article stating that the issue was resolved in 2020/21 prior to the release of the 800MT: www.motorcyclenews.com/news/2024/july/ktm-camshaft-defects/
Someone from the UK looked into the stats of the camshaft failures and found it was like .2 percent of the KTM 790 . One 5th of a percent.
Sometimes facts are less engaging/entertaining than a less than accurate narrative... Thanks for the comment - appreciate the insight
@Ben Plays Bass, just wondering if you would consider an electric powered bikes for ADV riding, as opposed to petrol fuelled bikes? Me, i’m a fan of petrol bikes.
Great question and a contentious issue! We own a Tesla and as long as your expectations are inline with what its capabilities are, you can’t fault it. Electric bikes have years of development to go, so I think we’ll have to manage our expectations of the ones that we’re seeing currently. They’ll get there eventually! I’d love to try one though. But you’re right, there is absolutely nothing like an internal combustion engine! Keep an eye out for Savic Motorcycles from Australia. They’re doing some incredible innovation with electric bikes 😉
4.5k rpm at 105 kmh bruh that isn't great
We’ll have to agree to disagree on this one. If this was a car, sure, but this is an 800cc parallel twin motorcycle engine. 4.5k rpm is a sweet spot for this bike and its power and fuel economy have both been great. 😊
The thing that I'm worried most is the weight of the bike. The 450 MT is probably more practical for me.
Certainly a worthwhile consideration. I’m mostly a road rider, so this is less of a factor, but if I was leaning more towards off-road you couldn’t go wrong with the 450MT 😊 let me know what you go with! (Just quietly, I would LOVE one of each)
@@benplaysbass2491 I'm not a dirt rifer, but roads in Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia are full of pot holes. CFMoto does not pass the emision regulations for Thai roads yet. Probvably will in the last quarter of this year.

I think the 450 is the better Deal. Only if you drive Most time on the Highway the 800 is better. But in general cf moto will replace many other Brands. So the next 800 will be something like the 450 now. They incrrase quality fast
How do you find the 5k service interval? I'd think it's a bit more work to book and bring it in every so often. All of the Kawasaki I've owned have 12k service interval. I bring it in every year or 18 months and I do my own oil and filter change at every 6k.
The service interval is 15,000kms for this model, so I don’t know where you got that from. So, not an issue I’m concerned with. FYI, oil changes (which I like to do more regularly than recommended) are an absolute doddle.
Thanks for the clarification. The 5k service interval is for the 450MT. I thought these would be the same. I might get these instead of waiting for the Kove 800X.
@@charliequach6399 yes, of course. 5000kms would be frustrating so great point. Probably one of the few downsides to the 450 MT 😉
I rechecked my info and yes, the US version requires 3k miles service intervals, whereas the rest of the world is 9k miles for the 800MT. That's why in the back of my mind the only thing holding me back from getting a CFMOTO is because all their bikes require 5k km service intervals.
Thanks for a very interesting and honest video. I don’t own a 800MT but I am looking to get one in the not too distant future. This business about stereotyping the bike and people volunteering their opinions just because they can.... In my experience most of them do it to make themselves feel better and not always to make you feel bad. There are those who will always see that what you have is inferior unless, of course, you own what they have! And yes, some of them just love to tell you about it. But it’s not about them or what they think. I owned a Japanese bike for a while and that attracted similar attention as you describe about the MT. I would normally do one of two things when they go on about negatives and that’s to either turn and walk away or perhaps give them the "two syllable sentence" in extreme cases. The truth is it’s about what you think about your bike not anyone else. Thanks again for the vid and I'd love to hear about the pillion experience.
I appreciate the insight and the feedback! Many thanks - stay tuned for the pillion video…
