Engine Room Bilge Pumps Carver Mariner 350
มุมมอง 4844 ปีที่แล้ว
I have 4 bilge pumps in my engine compartment. I have 2 2000 gallons per hour pumps direct discharge and 2 500 gallons per hour pumps pumping rain water under the port and startboard engine into the middle bulkhead were the other 2 pumps are located. Any carver owner will tell you the setup of the bulkheads sucks.
Small Boat Projects The life of a boater

Mercruiser 6 2 Engine Losses Power under load intermittently FIXED
มุมมอง 10K4 ปีที่แล้ว
So if you ever have intermittently fluctuations on your Mercruiser engine you should check all your engine electrical connectors and ground. Also check your battery cables as well. Take a wire brush, clean and reattach. So the issue was randomly under way with the gear in forward and giving it throttle the RPM gauge would randomly start fluctuating and only giving idle power. I compare this to ...

One of your videos you said that the carver isn’t good to go offshore!? Is that because the year of your boat ? I’m looking at a 2003 carver 35 do you think it would be the same problem because the back is flat ? Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Do u have two blowers
Yesssss your back!!!!
I'm back with with a 26 foot glacier bay dual console glacier bay cuddy cabin
I been watching all your videos for a year. Saved up all my money and just bought this exact model cash. You inspired me!!!
Hi Anthony I love watching the carver videos I just purchased mines last season. I'm having a problem removing my ac sea strainer. It is directly underneath the floor panel ,it comes out halfway but then gets blocked by the floor panel. Can I just stick a hose in it and just flush it out .I'm stomped on ideas. If you can help I really appreciate it. Thanks again for all the informative videos!!!
Hi Anthony how's life, good I hope !! I've been watching your videos for a while now and I decided to purchase a 1999 350carver. And for my very first boat I think I'm in over my head 😂 but I good with my hands and I'm getting the hang of it . But I have a few questions ti pick your brain and knowledge on the carver is that's OK with you?!
When you had the boat did you remove the striping? It looks so much cleaner without. It makes the boat look newer.
Having the same issue, new fuel pumps and everything. Trying this !! Thks for the video
$250K will get you a NICE sport fisher-maybe a 34-38ft Luhrs ??
So your a day trader? From the monitors. I am to.... thinking about buying a marinar 360 but not sure. Especially since you seemed to not like your a whole lot.
If your on a lake wanting a condo on the water that eats gas. Then buy a carver. If your in Florida think again. I would never buy it again. I currently own a 26 foot glacier bay catamaran that goes 35 knots. Just think what do you want to use the boat for?
How is the floor holding up? I have a 1998 35 Mariner and I am going to be installing a laminate floor in a few weeks. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
I sold the boat and have a 1998 glacier bay and about to do videos on that. But…… my recommendation is real hardwood. It will take more time but I think you will be happier that way. Some issues with laminate. If not interconnected 100 percent it will disconnect the joints over time. Plus fiberglass and wood subfloor require different adhesive. It will look great initially but I sold it less than a year after doing install. Remember water tank and cut out future access for that. Middle of salon. I loved the carver but didn’t suit my needs long term. I used it a lot and is a beee too handle when one engine goes out.
Turn off background music!
Hi. New boaters here from Jax. Can we dock at the conch house and is it free or do we have to reserve a slip?
no updates on new boat?
Standing under there with no stands is risky. I’m thinking about buying a Mariner so thanks for the videos. I would only have it on a lake. When are you getting another boat?
Well yes it’s risky but if it wasn’t safe the marina would have no allowed it. I did buy another boat. 26 foot glacier bay cuddy cabin and ford f250 to pull it. Florida
Hi friend. I am writing to you from Spain because I watch your videos on you a lot. I had a 40-foot Carver 350, from 1999, it has two Cumins x 250 hp diesel engines. I would like to know where I could buy parts such as the rudder or propellers and more accessories from Spain, thank you very much
Do u know where is the Inverted located at I have the same boat I been looking and looking and nothing
In rough weather, do you have issues with the lines putting too much force downward on the tender? I see they are crossed from each cleat over the dingy. I’ve been curious about this. Thanks
Love the Carver 350 Mariner videos! Keep them coming. I am adding a second AC unit under dinnette, never had one from factory, can you tell me how the water lines are routed to the smaller AC unit?
great running in to your video. My buddy has the same issue. I was going to look down another path but after seeing your video I'm heading the electronics. Thanks again.
Can you not tie up at the lock overnight? We boat on the Trent Severn Waterway in Ontario. There are 45 locks along it. Each lock is a Parks Canada site and you can moor there overnight for a small fee if you are passing through. They all gave washroom facilities. Some have shore power as well.
Just fell in love with Carver 350 Mariner, starting to research, found your channel, watched a few of your vids and bam! you sold it! Wth bro!? Lol Why would you do this? This is the best boat out there at that price range. What didn’t you like about it?
Ahhhhh. Well....to answer that question is what you want to do in the water.????... if your starting research well......Well....... it's a lake boat. I was at anchor at anclote and it rocked 45 degrees. On the flybridge it was horrible. This boat has no room for a seakeeper. Ahhhhhhh. Think about what you want to do.
I bought another boat....I haven't posted the videos. Btw it was a glacier bay
Anthony, looks AWSOME! I have '95 Carver 330 Mariner and want to do the same. It has same/similar layout, so how much vinyl plank flooring (boxes) did you have to order? Also, can you provide a materials list, w/model numbers, of the flooring materials (underlayment and glue) used? Did you use riser trim material on your steps and dinette riser or is that the way they are? Also, are there any post-job recommendations you can offer at this time? Thanks, Ed O. (Annapolis)
How deep will this allow you to dive
Hey Tony, looking to buy the same boat. Just would like your input on it. Thanks
Why did you need a 8” stainless bolt? Is the end of the platform cores or hollow. If it’s hollow wouldn’t stainless toggle bolts work.
Do you remember which model of the XL davits you ordered? They come in 3 heights. The middle one is good for 12-18” height of swim platform, which is what I ordered. Have the same boat so I am curious which ones you installed?
For anyone looking for local knowledge entering the inlet area from ICW, hug the northern shore. Where Tony was when filming, it’s gotten shallow. Once past the park service dock the deeper water ‘channel’ starts moving towards the south shore.
no wipers on that?
BTW, how is the boat shopping going ?
Hey Tony, Did you have to drain the fluid before removing the end caps to the exchanger?
How long does the 8 gallon tank last with a single diver?
Making me dizzy
This is NOT SAFE! where is the air pressure getting regulated down to ambient?
At the 2nd stage regulator. Just like SCUBA.
I'm buying a 350 Mariner too. This is helpful
It looks awesome! I'm assuming you already had some portions that were "wood" flooring. If so, how easy was that to remove? Did you do all the cutting at the dock?
Just found you videos yesterday. Cincinnati Ohio, boat winterized but plenty of gin and tonic for frequent visits with my dog to walk the marina and docks and relax inside with heat on. Loved watching your trip with Matt, great experience. Have an '05 Mariner with 6.0s for three years now, absolutely love it! After dinner tonight will watch ownership costs; fun comparison! Ever in Cincinnati, got a boat for you and a place to stay!
You should never use pneumatic tool air hose (as advocated in this video) in a hookah system. These hoses are not designed to provide breathing air and have residual oils from the manufacturing process that you will breath. In addition, hoses like this can offgas toxins like dioxin during use. For this reason the U.S. Navy developed a mil-spec for breathing air hose and you should never use any hose that does not meet this specification.
where are you getting this offgas toxins from? everything gives off gas, the pastic in your car offgas, the amorall you use to protect offgas...point is you're not breathing through this hose 24/7. You should clean the hose before use also. you think the hose that's for "breathing" is made any different? its the same compound its just cleaned!
@@18magicMARKer The U.S. Navy created the mil-spec for breathing hose because they found that non mil-spec hose can off-gasses toxins. But I guess you know more than they do so hey, breathe thru whatever you want, genius.
@@18magicMARKer how would you clean the hose?
I use a commercial unit and all I can say is this is insane!! Home depot pump with no idea the materials inside? Garage quality, non food grade hose? No check valves in the hose? Using brass fittings on galvanized elbow (Dissimilar metal corrosion) Best of luck sir. I would never trust my health and safety like that to save a buck. use this pump instead. its the exact one my commercial unit uses plus its 12 volt for easier use on a boat. www.detroitwrecker.com/product/air-compressor/
I hate to break it to you but the compressor you think is so superior to Tony's is also a cheap Chinese-built unit, just like his is.
@@fstbttms Well smart guy did you know the difference is in the piston material before you made your comment or were you just making assumptions and talking shit based on them? Probably the latter but thanks for trying. You are indeed correct though that it's a cheap chinese made pump but so are the commercial units I use. If this guy wants to risk his health/life on a home made non medical grade(fittings and hoses) air system good luck to him. I just hope he doesn't inspire others to follow his foolish footsteps and get killed. Functionality wise he nailed it, but the materials are lacking.
I'm not talking about his air hose assembly or anything else. I'm talking about his (and yours) compressors. You didn't buy something special. "Commercial unit"? Bwahahahaha! You bought a generic 12-volt compressor that is available all over the internet and probably for less than you paid (assuming your link is the unit you bought.) Your compressor is of no better quality than Tony's.
@@fstbttms UGH, where did I say I bought this compressor and built mine? I didn't. You assumed again. Mine is a Commercially manufactured unit with medical/breathing grade fittings and hoses. It just happens to use the same compressor readily available from places like the link I provided.I posted it for others to avoid a possible hazard. Stop being a jealous hater and go make your own.
@@makemwunder Bwahahahaha! I have earned my living for 26 years using hookahs I have DIY'd. But maybe you'd like to share this beast of a compressor that you've incorporated into your hookah. I'll happily share mine.
Can’t hear the hum over the unnecessary music.
must be a oil less compressor or u will be sick
You mean I would be dead Lol Yes oil less compressor
@@anthonygrasso8620 I don’t see any problem with this set up but would go for food grade hose as it not massively more and maybe a carbon filter.
Sad to see that boat go. But definitely looking forward to your future boat videos.
Tony. To replace the exchanger seals, do you have to drain all the fluid from the system? I'd like to inspect exchanger and replace seals. Thanks
The end caps/seals only expose the raw water side so no drain is required before you remove them. You might need to adjust the exhaust hoses to get your wire through the tubes to clean them out though or do what i did and just get a long flexible wire brush.
Hey Tony. Can you tell me manufacturer and where you got the blue lights from. Digging that look on your bridge.
I would recommend getting the 12 LED light fixtures from amazon. Link is below. They are alittle more expensive than the 6 LED version but i think its worth it. Takes about 30 minutes to an hour to replace all of them. Use a small drill bit to make the holes for the screws, that will make your life alot easier installing them. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F436JRL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@@anthonygrasso8620 Thanks Tony. Any advice for popping off the old oblong covers? Also, did you replace your instrument Guage and switches as well?
@@anthonygrasso8620 Hey Tony, did you see my last inquiry regarding doing the light and your instrument gauge?
Is that safe air toxic and how many feet depth use it?
Completely safe I have 100 foot hose
Tony, How's the boat shopping going? What vessel are you looking to buy?
Yo. We are thinking about a newer 30 foot cobia probably April of 2021. I have a feeling that there will be lots of boaters unloading boats next year once COVID is under control. I might even buy an old hatteras for a complete restoration project. That would make for some good videos
Hey Tony, out of curiosity, what did you end up selling the boat for? As I may have mentioned in my earlier message to you, I have a 1999 Carver 350 Mariner. I just purchased it and I'm knee deep in troubleshooting and repairing many things that were neglected, so still hoping to lean on you for some wisdom and guidance. I too don't foresee this being my retirement boat, but I couldn't pass on the deal because it came with a slip which was in high demand. Congratulations on the sale and I"m really looking forward to your boat shopping adventures. Chat soon Captain :)
Thanks, I Had it under contract for 60k and reduced it a few thousand to fix a few items. Surprisingly there were no blisters on the bottom. These big boats have lots of small items that pop up. The biggest head turner I had was tracin down any electrical issues. Next time I would hire marine electricians and mechanics for quick diagnostics. Because it is so hard to trace back the route cause of problems. I hope you can sort out your issues. For me my main concern was to make sure engines, generator and ac were good, everything else was a honey wish list.
@@anthonygrasso8620 Thanks for reply. Ya, the engines and electrical are my main issues right now. None of the bilge pumps are working and I just noticed one of the bus bars in the engine compartment was completely corroded. The troubleshooting is definitely challenging. My plan is to have a professional diagnose and then I'll try to do repairs myself with fellow boat owner. Thanks and I'll be in touch.
Great information Tony, thank you. I've got a couple issues with my Carver Mariner and hoping you might have some guidance or suggestions. 1. I have some type of fresh water leak and the stagnant water has created some odor issues. I fixed the pump to displace the water, but haven't tracked down where the leak is as of yet. 2. Interior lights - I have about 4 lights that don't work and I've replaced those expensive little tiny bulbs already, so trying to troubleshoot. The non-functioning lights are overhead immediately when entering the boat. They appear to be the ones controlled by a dimmer knob on the aft wall. Any input would be great. I just bought this boat and have a lot of items in need of replacement, so I may be bothering you a little seeking your wisdom. Here's a quick list: New canvas to protect upper deck and bow lounge seat, fridge replacement, TV install in bedroom, replace bow ventilation hatch. Thanks again for sharing everything you do. Cheers and stay safe. Steve
Batwing2465 no trouble at all. I think your fresh water leak is coming from the water heater under the table seating. I had to replace mine last year. If your carver lists a little to port that’s the tell tell sign. Follow all the water lines from there and everywhere. Could be a water fitting, they run everywhere. I will do a video covering everything else soon.
What's up Cap'n Tony! I had a similar issue with my Mercruiser 8.1s. I exercised every electrical connector on the engine i could find. The smallest amount of salt spray that gets into these connections can cause corrosion and fail intermittently just like you're describing. If you find one that has some green stuff on it,, you can use electrical contact cleaner to clean up the pins. There's a main harness connector that has pins that can fatigue so by unplugging it and working the pins with a very small screwdriver or similar, you can make these pins fit together more tightly. Before swapping fuel pumps, connect a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail and run it under load. Do that on both engines to compare pressures. If you're problematic engine reads lower, that fuel pump or pressure regulator could be failing. Good luck bud!
Thanks buddy. I hope it is just that because electrical issues cause wonky things. I’ll let you know what I find
Thanks for informative videos- I read negative comments online about Carver- would you recommend this boat to a first timer? Thanks
I wouldn’t read too much into comments from online people who have never been on a carver, never owned one nor even own a boat. Boats are not designed for the same purposes. Carvers are a luxury brand with great build quality. Before you consider any boat what do you want to do on the water. It’s like comparing apples and oranges with these basement dwellers who know nothing. For a first boat it is a lot to handle. Could be better with a bow and stern thruster for windy days. It can be handled with two people but dont try to take her out yourself. My channel will give you the good the bad and the ugly from an owners perspective. Do you need a lot of great space that can do Bahamas runs and handle up to 10 plus foot seas under way? Try doing that in a center console under 30 feet. First write down all your specific needs in a boat and shop around that.
I hear you thanks - that’s what I was thinking, my search was initially 26 to max 28’ boat , but most likely we’re not going to upgrade (what I see a lot!) , so if this a good boat ( not a wild thoroughbred) and I could get a good deal maybe I should consider-it fits what we like to do. Is there known/specific problems with this boat that I should look for or walk away from😎? leaks, soft spots, mechanical/electrical problems? With season almost ended in the east coast, what is the good deal on a good condition 1997-2000? I see anywhere b/w $45k -65. Again , very informative detail oriented and helpful videos- many thanks.
I would say engines on any boat would be a deal killer if they haven’t been maintained. For instance around 2000 hours you’ll be looking at a rebuild or repower. Mine only has 800 hours. Also with salt water make sure the engines are fresh water cooled with heat exchangers. Run away from any boat in salt water without them. Also Get a good survey. Make sure the owner has all records. Carver mariner 350s will range from 50k to 90k. Lower range will need some tlc. If your near st augustine I could give you a tour of mine.
Thanks- I’m in Maryland. Going to see the boat tomorrow. Owner has it for 8 years. Survey was done 3 yrs ago. All records available owner stated. new full canvas ,Sound system ,Many interior up grades, new risers and manifolds ,New carpet New floor, New vinyl for bridge seats, Rebuilt port transmission and Vdrive. Said it runs well with no known issues! Apparently, owner is selling to upgrade and has his eyes set on a boat.
Hey Tony, thanks for going over dinghy launch. Do I understand correctly, you're selling your boat? If so, why? I just purchased your same boat in a 1999. I was hoping to continue to learn from you with the different projects you've done on the boat.
That is correct. It is currently up on the market in St Augustine listed on boat trader. It is a great boat but my needs are changing. I no longer need all that cabin space interior and would like a faster lighter boat to go offshore 30+ miles in an hour to go fishing and what not. Might take a few months to unload her. On Monday i am doing a few separate videos if amazon delivers a few parts i just ordered. I will be replacing the port engine high and low pressure fuel pumps. This last trip i got intermittent loss of power while throttling up and I think I isolated it to the fuel pumps. I also will be installing the generator fuel line. I am pretty sure the old fuel line just needs to be taken off and have the o ring replaced but being a 15 year old generator i figure its only 40 bucks for a new line. I will try to get more detailed in my videos on what and how to guides on fixing things. In the previous videos i was typically like hey i have a problem and show the part and wala its fixed lol without the how to part.
