Fantastic, I am only 50 but some of these pictures and I am not afraid to say made me cry a bit. So many places demolished now. Progress? Nah look how clean and tidy the town was. Perhaps now nobody has any standards or pride? Just a thought. Great pics

Dirtiest place i ever lived in

I lived on that site for about 20 years. My neighbours were the nosiest people I have ever encountered. A bunch of gossips, liars, and idiots. I think I had to call the cops on my neighbours a couple of times for threats, harrassment, and other stuff. If you dont share your life with them they get very nosey. Even asking the postman several times about the mail I was receiving. Unbelievable. I lived at 25 New Road and 71 Main Avenue. Looking at this I can see the mobile home where I lived has disappeared.

Amazing pictures, looks so clean back then. It’s a shame Scunthorpe is a shithole nowadays and littered with chavs and Jippo’s.

Tourism to Scunthorpe has increased hugely since this , mainly Frodingham road and Crosby , we can all be thankful .

Although I live in Kent and have not been there, I know where Scunthorpe is as I have seen it on the maps before too. A large town in Lincolnshire of course. I presume the name Humberside has now been deleted preferably forever, from what it used to be at the time though. Should not have been made to join with what is now the East Riding of Yorkshire at all really too. Also in a way it is a shame that the town's name has a very rude word in it too, but I guess that is how it is somehow too alas! Whatever, thank you anyway too.

Yes slower would be better, I started on the steelworkers in 1987 at 16 as a pipe fitter. I’ve worked at the Goose hole and worked at the Seraphim Blowing House. I can just remember Lysaights steel works.
