Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (excerpt) in Middle English
Dr Richard Hawtree has given a number of talks at the bookshop on various 'medieval' themes and one of the most popular was his exposition of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Here, he reads just an excerpt from the beginning of the "Second Fitt" in the original Middle English.

2018 marks the 100th birthday of The Petersfield Bookshop and the 60th year in the hands of the Westwood family. We made this short film as part of the celebrations.

Absolutely wonderful to hear Richard read from Beowulf! I have had the privilege of hearing Richard read on several occasions over the past two decades, and his old-english transports me back to ancient times always.
Alas, 3/5. But what fun! The source book looks just lovely.

got two wrong, must do better. But the black magic books reminded me of giving myself nightmares by finding and reading my Mum's copies at far too young an age!
