Hello! Today we're learning how to mod/create our own level for sonic adventure 2. If you know what you're doing, the process only takes about 20 minutes, but may be 30 for beginners.

Dang, sorry to hear. If it's stopping you, I'd suggest visiting the X-hax discord linked in the description. The creators of the addon are there, and they can help fix the addon.

Hey dude, thanks so much to you and the people who helped you for making a mod where you can even make own levels! This tutorial's great, you're really good at explaining and I followed along. Really weird problem I'm having though is that I imported the whole stage for City Escape from the SA Tools hub, whenever I select one of the meshes of the stage and try to look at the material/texture properties, it stays open for a second and then Blender just crashes to my desktop? No error or anything, it just crashes? I don't think it does it with anything else though. I'm thinking about asking that X-Hax discord server about it, other than that though, this tutorial really helped!

@@techno_letsgo But it really is true! You're kind and you take your time explaining while being straight to the point at the same time, that made it even more enjoyable too! I asked the X-Hax discord server about it around a week ago but there hasn't been much on it so far, I think they're confused just as much as I am. Blender crashes completely whenever I try looking at the materials for anything related to Sonic Advenure 2, a landtable, even a model. I really don't get why it's doing this and it's preventing me from modding, I'm giving it time though!
@@RadicalBlur If i were to suggest trying anything, I think it's worth reinstalling blender and making sure it and the addon is the most up to date. I've heard of a few people trying Blender 3 and the addon not working properly, or a few instances of different addons conflicting with one another. But I definitely think its a small issue, and once we find it, you should be good to go. Hope this helps
techno_letsgo I actually did try reinstalling Blender before but I still have that crashing problem, I know for sure that it doesn't run on blender 3 because the minimum version it says for the Blender I/O on the github page says it needs version 4.2 or higher. I'm using blender 4.3 and I think that's the latest version right now. I actually did try it out on my main computer with Blender 3 and the whole plugin doesn't really work at all, it's not made for it. But I'm using a completely different computer for modding and I can use the latest Blender version on it. Man I hope it's a small problem, I know there's a way to solve it but I'm really confused what the solution even is. Thank you for advice and wanting to help me out with this!

That sucks. I'm not quite sure what the cause is (maybe blender version)? But I recommend you join the X-Hax discord linked in the description, where the authors of the blender addon would be more than happy to help you out :)
Update: The My Level Mod level_options format has changed. New versions of My Level Mod will come with an example of this new format, but if you are updating an older project, you can find more information about the new format here: github.com/J-N-R/My-Level-Mod/wiki

Did you enable level tools by changing the scene type to "Landtable?" (12:10) Edit: Wait, I see you're talking about the tab on the bottom right. It doesn't show if you select the mesh in object mode?
Couple of things, I have blender 3.6 and can't really update it as I have add-ons that require that version or lower for skyrim mods. Is there like an older version of the tools add on thing that I can use? Also, is making a custom level always going to overwrite a vanilla level? And if not is there a way to choose who the level is for, including mechless tail or something, or the 2p characters (including the unlock able costumes)? I would really like to make a speed based mech-stage for tails in the red cyclone, or a precision level for the Eggman variant. Even better can you make it so a list of all these characters shows up, like when you enter Chao world?
Hi!! I'll try to answer your questions as best I can. 1 (Blender version). I looked it up, and it seems like there's actually a way to have multiple versions of Blender installed on your computer. docs.blender.org/manual/en/2.80/getting_started/installing/windows.html#:~:text=Install%20from%20Zip&text=With%20this%20option%2C%20it%20is,r%20from%20the%20Command%20Line. If you install Blender 4.0 into its own Zip file, you can use the Sonic Adventure 2 addon while keeping your old 3.6 addons intact. (Optional) If you feel that your 3.6 addons may not be updated any time in the future, it may just be easier to make 3.6 your separate Zip file installation. That way, your 3.6 addons stay safe, while your default Blender can be up to date and available for new addons. 2 (Level replacement). Yea for the time being, due to the hard-coded nature of levels, we can only replace levels instead of adding new ones. As for what level, you have complete control. Mech, speed, even kart levels. As for mechless, you can just use a regular level (speed or mech) and force the character to be mechless using code or a separate mod. 3 (List of selectable characters). I would really like that tutorial on how to import and edit levels in the game? Also does this level mod replace every level or is there a way to make the game choose which level this replaces? Or did you cover that? I felt like I missed something.
This tutorial goes over replacing one level, and you can choose which one in the level_options.ini file. (see level_import_id). You edit/create levels in Blender, and once exported, you use the "My Level Mod" to import them into the game, replacing existing levels.

EDIT: For rotation values with hover labels, its recommended that you use hex values, otherwise your object may not work properly. For example, at 12:15, instead of putting "10," I'd suggest putting the hex value "x0010," or "x10"
