How to remove and replace a failed touch screen digitizer on a Skoda Yeti Satnav radio head unit DIY
Here's how to replace a failed touch screen digitizer on a Skoda Yeti head unit from 2009 to 2017.
These are a common fault and this job was done on a 2017 Yeti where the entire screen was not responding. The process is similar for many VAG models using this system, some may or may not have CD players and removal of the head unit might be a little different but overall if you have this fault it can save you a lot of money replacing just the digitizer and not the whole unit.
On this Yeti non of the screen was working, in some cases you might have a small part working and the rest doesn't. It's quite an easy job to replace with basic tools and can be done in under an hour. As shown in the video you do not need to remove the old digitizer from the main screen, these are only 1.5mm thick and the old one is glued solid into place so just stick the new one over the old and it works perfectly.
Tools you will need are:
New digitizer - when measuring the screen corner to corner it's 6 inches but when you remove the front fascia it's actually 6.5 inches so this is the one I used - please make sure it's the correct one for you car as there are a few variations out there:
amzn.to/3yoSdGj
At the time of listing there is a slightly cheaper one that looks the same so might be worth looking at:
amzn.to/4fsySo9
Trim removal tools - this is the pack I have, I've had it a while and has all the tools you will need for any jobs like this:
amzn.to/3ytLg6H
Precession screw driver set, this contains the T6 Torx, T8 Trox and T20 Torx bits needed for everything to do this job:
amzn.to/3WmmUns
If you wanted a larger T20 screwdriver just for removing the Head Unit then the cheapest one I could find is here:
amzn.to/3yb74UN
Isopropyl cleaning pads for removing grease from the original screen:
amzn.to/4fu7fLq
Finally a super cheap microfiber cloth to really get that screen clean!:
amzn.to/4fsCF56
If this video helps you or you found something useful in it then I'd be really grateful if you could take a moment to click the thumbs up and subscribe to the channel for more videos fixing broken things!
This is how I did the job, I am a just a car enthusiast and have basic (worn out) tools. The video is meant as a guide for entertainment purposes only. If it helps someone that's fantastic but if in any doubt then always consult a professional mechanic before undertaking a project yourself.

Here's how to replace a seized or faulty front brake caliper on a 2006 Ford Fiesta 1.25. This should be the same process for all non ST model Fiestas of this shape from circa 2002 to 2008. Upon taking off the front wheel it was obvious someone has n...

Here's how to change the front brake pads on a Fiat 500. It's an easy job to do this one. This is not my best video as it was getting dark toward the end and I had to use a plug in light but hopefully it will help guide someone! Many thanks for this video. My Yeti U/S touch screen now repaired! Wouldn't have tried without your guidance. Only tricky part on my unit was removing the inner aluminium screen surround, which was reluctant to release, because the bottom edge was glued on. Everytning else very straightforward.
Great video!
Great video, really well done. Git the same problem on my Yeti, and it looks like a common issue. Thanks for this, ive ordered the touchscreen and I'll report back on the repair. Subscribed too 👍
Another comment to say that this fix worked perfectly (for my 2017 Yeti which had the same symptoms as everyone else). I searched Amazon for the part number (TDO-WVGA0633F00039) and found several sellers. Thanks for the video!
Just done this on my 2017 Skoda Yeti.... Perfect. Thanks for the fuss free guide. I found that a plastic insert from a Bic type biro was perfect for guiding the delicate ribbon cables back into their guides rather than risking damage with a screwdriver. A magnifying glass helped here too. 😊
Thanks for this. Just what I've been looking for and very clear instructions. Much appreciated.
So is this in the UK?
where do I find such a digitizer in switzerland?
thanks for the informative video. i have the same problem with my yeti. nothing works on the right side of the display. basically, they only replaced the front screen (touchscreen). i wonder how something like that can be broken? could you explain this to me? greetings from austria
I can't explain it to you but I can guarantee you that this is a common issue with those MIB2 PQ units. So this isn't Skoda Yeti specific, all VWs, Seats and Skodas with this type of infotainment units are prone to broken digitizers. The only thing you can be happy about is if you don't have bubbles between the original screen and digitizer, because then the replacement isn't by far as easy as in this video since you can't just stick the new digitizer onto the old one. You'll permanently see the bubbles and if you're unlucky, it might continue not to work properly in some spots.
@@viper42x Thank you very much for your feedback. And thank you for the tip about the blisters. I will gather more information, and then I should also obtain and install the correct replacement part. Thanks again for your great video. Greetings from Vienna!
Good vid but I’d have changed both clips with jubilee clips.
Awesome! You have saved me a lot of headache of not changing these correctly!
excellent, do you have a video for replacing the front strut ?
Skvělej návod, opraveno podle něj velice snadno!
Si vous avez des difficultés pour extraire le tambour, il faut visser deux vis dans les filetages opposés, en s'appuyant sur la flasque elles feront sortir le tambour.☺ PIERRICK
Only video that actually show how to change the rear fog light bulb. Thank you !
What a brilliant video, I just followed this to replace the digitizer on my 2017 Yeti. Everything is explained in easy steps and the ladies narrative is superb, she could talk me into doing anything. Thankyou.
Thanks for posting a complete video on the process. I'm just waiting for the replacement digitiser to arrive by post and shall be doing the same on my 2015 Yeti.
@brokenfixed hi bro i just change my map sensor do i need to reset it so the ecu will adapt or relearn the new map sensor? Or it is safe just to disconnect the negative battery so it will restart?
Great job! Thanks bro!!!
More concerned with underbody rust.
You made it look VERY easy when in fact it can be extremely hard to get this bearing out, i suggest anyone wanting to do this job watch alan howatt channel on toyota wheel bearing removal no problem for an excellent technique to remove this in an easy way.
This is just what I needed. Great job
Great video. Thanks.
Really clear. well-explained video, thank you
You legend!
this was helpful, BUT 2017 discovery sport has a tube, im guseeing turbo related right in front of the filler and drain plug. whats the procedure then?
found that a 1/4 drive rachet did'nt fit in the small gap for the inside screw. Had to bend back the metal bumper bracket to allow a long reach screwdriver.
Great video. Does the new battery not require to be registered?
Brilliant, simple, clear video. Thank you ❤
Any video how to take out front diff?
Great video
Excellent quality video and easy to follow instructions.
Great teaching ❤ thank you
Helpful ,I’m hoping my l494 sdv6 is as easy as yours .im wondering if car should be on level ground when refilling diff. Cheers
Easy way to get the bearing off once the four bolts are out is to put two large bolts with a nut on the hub side, use the wheel nut holes and just do them up while holding the nuts with a spanner. This will pull the bearing out.Get a hammer a hit the hub as you tighten the bolts and it will come off.Have done this on several 107’s in the past and it works a great.Saves a lot of hassle.
Совершенно верно, так же можно обратным молотом, очень полезный инструмент в гараже.
Muchas gracias por video, a de haldex también se cambia aceite? Tienes video?
straight forward info,excellent guide
I love this guidance. Thank you 👍
Drop the lower shock absorber bolt. Makes access to bolts etc easier.
Should’ve replaced using the metal hose connector- them plastic outlets are prone to breaking !
yeah in what, 10 years time. Car will be long gone through rust by then. Or the core plugs will rot out as they usually do.
Good, no nonsense guidance.
Thanks man👌🏼
Strughling to undo the 4 bolts holding bearing, any tips?
Nice video, what size jubilee clips are needed to replace the factory one use clips
The most important part is missing. How did you pull it off? I know because I found it in another video.
On this one I used a little brute force and hit the back of it a few times and it came away. If you have one that's really stuck you can get a gear/bearing puller: amzn.to/499em8d It hooks onto the sides of the front of the bearing and as you tighten it the pressure will pull the bearing out. hope this helps!
Very helpful video for me Thank you
Mate, I think you may need an OBD2 scanner that allows you to perform "Battery Registration." Or perhaps you don't have the IBS sensor on the negative cable? In that case the OB2 scanner is not necessary.
Thanks for that - Yes that's absolutely right. On this car it didn't require it but on some a battery replacement will show on the internal diagnostic by showing an amber image of a little car on a ramp on startup. Having changed batteries on BMW's this often happens with a code of CC-ID 415 so I would assume the code would be the same for Mini. It's easy to reset and register a battery replacement with any OBD diagnostic tool that supports service functions. Mine is an iCarsoft CR MAX: amzn.to/42eiPnP It's really a great tool that can do all sorts for most makes and models.
@@BrokenFixed Sounds good 👌 Thank you for the reply. Take care.
Don't you have to reset the car's computer to tell it that the battery was changed? Battery registration...
Step by step, a really good video 👍🏻
