Kata Bunkai is not what you think - or are told
When it comes to Kata Bunaki, one of the most ridiculous explanations I have heard, is that Kata A is for Strikes, Kata B is for Grappling, Kata C is for movement and so on and so forth.
I can't begin to explain how dumb that thinking is - yet it still goes on!
You need to understand that the "shapes" that appear can mean FAR MORE than the first glance or the one application.
A similar / same shape can appear in all manner of situations - which means that a particular technique can be applied in all those situations - standing grappling, ground fighting, against the wall, on top underneath - the list and possibilities go on and on!
It is vitally important that you understand this principle BEFORE you start analysing your Kata!

Kata Bunkai That Works - Basic Shapes To Work On
มุมมอง 38019 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
The vast majority of Kata Bunkai out there, simply will not work in a real fight. It will work great in the Dojo, with a static "Karate Punching" opponent of course. However, Bunkai MUST work in a real fight, or it is not Bunkai. This is a VERY basic example of correct Bunaki. Take the ideas and principles and extrapolate them out to begin to understand what your Kata / Patterns / Forms etc act...

Just because Usyk can beat today's giant heavyweights doesn't mean that the top heavies of previous eras - most of whom were actually smaller than Usyk - could do the same. Styles make fights. Of the guys you mentioned, Ali and Holmes would do as well as Usyk in todays era because they have the same attributes as Usyk - speed, skill, mobility and stamina. Others, like Frazier and Foreman, wouldn't hack it at heavyweight today, imo.

    • @RussellStutely
      @RussellStutely 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

When you look at how "easy" it is for Usyk, regardless of the styles make fights, I just can't imagine the likes of Foreman, Frazier, Holyfield and most of the 80's 90's HW's struggling too much. We can only ponder as we can never truly know for sure!

For me Usyk won the fight at the press conference when his manager quoted Henry Longfellow English classic Fury team sat there with gormless faces unable to compute ANYTHING. If they had an once of intelligence they would have challenged Usyk's team on English Classics!!!!!!!!!!!! and Longfellow. It is obvious to the educated but Fury team totally vacant. This very clever approach by team Usyk was addressing many avenues of team Fury but Fury team had no aptitude, no ability to even attempt a process of statement.

Thanks for your video sir, great to hear! I thought fury fought well and deserves credit for the fight (I honestly thought he would avoid it forever). I got the impression he wanted to set a low pace and walk usyk onto something counter punch wise, but after losing the first 3 he stepped it up and won some rounds. Totally fell apart due to that pace and usyk dominated, what a fantastic champion he is. I know what you are saying re: size of past fighters as well. I recall in the lennox era people were saying similar things about "they are getting too big to move and fight at a pace now".....but i think that truly hit with the klitschko era and has gone on since...... You dont win rounds just jabbing at Usyks hands, Usyk also boxed directly at Furys arms to parry the blows, he moved the left jab away and jabbed Fury continually, and followed up with his devastating left hook! Some people are blind!

People here seem to not have watched the fight! Usyk dominated and beet up Fury from first round to last round! Knock out in the 9th, stopped by the referee. After that 10,11- Usyk was just keeping Fury alive intentionally in order to smash injure him the most possible without actually knocking him out. In the 12th Fury was just barely able to survive, making a but of a show. There are clauses and deals we dont know of: these bixers get paid more if it lasts all 12 rounds these days, they dont want a beging round knock out like Mike Tyson used to do! People get upset, they feel they dont get a show for the money they payed! We had a kinda old Larry Holmes, fat, out of shape man, fighting a Mike Tyson type boxer: but Usyk(Mike Tyson like) did a similar thing to what Mike Tyson did to Larry Holmes: knocked him out, but he (Usyk) made it worse for Fury. Even the commentators said it, he clearly could have knocked Fyry out again in the 10th and 11th rounds, but suddenly stopped, intemtionally letting the fat dude rest, so he could beet him up more, Usyk was having fun at the same time, taunting Fury. Usyk knew what he was doing, object was, get people to talk, get the remach, earn more money: I repeat: there are clauses, where you earn less if you knock the other guy out in earlier rounds, thet learnt that from the Mike Tyson era, the public feel cheated when the fight is quick, immagine all the hype etc, and Usyk knocks Fury out in the 1st round in Riyadh; Usyk could have done that! Last problem: guys like Fury take drugs to be able to handle the punches, thats why he looks so out of shape, its the effect of what he is taking, thats why he acted crazy the last day before the fight, he even mentioned it himself: the effecct on his body etc.... Usyk doesnt need drugs, he is a pro, well conditioned and prepared, if there is a rematch, Fury will certainly be smashed up even worse, if he survives til then(December)

Last note on the Usyk-Fury fight. Tyson Fury had three people drowning each other out by giving him advice in his corner. Sugar Hill told him to hold his ground and plant his feet when Usyk came forward. John Fury told him to constantly backfoot. Andy Lee told him he was ahead on points and to play it conservative. In my view, neither of the three gave good advice. However, as Peter Fury have said in previous interviews, what's the point in giving advice if the boxer has not been trained to follow such advice and then implement it? I thought T. Fury, after nearly getting knocked out in the 9th, fought effectively for the remaining 3 rounds. He used the 10th round to recover from the previous round and he was very competitive in the remaining 2 rounds. He may have very well won one of the last two rounds. Fury and his team did not think the fight would last more than 7 rounds. If he was tired in the championship rounds it was probably only because he did not train to fight effectively for all 12 rounds. T. Fury merely relied on determination and instinct in the latter rounds. More importantly, his team did not prepare for the "Rabbit" to fully charge him the way he did. Even a novice like me knew that Usyk would not want to fight the entire bout from long distance. Even I knew that for Usyk to win, he knew he would have to penetrate and try to push T. Fury on his backfoot in order to win. How else can a shorter man with a shorter reach win that bout? Apparently T. Fury and his team had that blind spot. It seems to be they were so focused on being aggressive that they did not train T. Fury on how to be effective defensively when Usyk would predictably try to close the distance. If T. Fury does not get a different training team, he will again lose the rematch. Usyk, after defeating Fury albeit by a close margin, and his team will be oozing in confidence and experience. They will know what adjustments need to be made in order to score a more resounding victory. T. Fury cannot afford to be simplistic and caught off-guard. He has to better use his tools and advantages but at the same time train for all likely scenarios that Usyk will put him in. Tyson Fury has definitely developed some unhealthy and undisciplined habits in the last 8.5 years. At age 27 he was one of the best defensive heavyweights in the history of the sport. His offense was precise as well. Moreover he was able to seamlessly co-ordinate between the two modes. In the Usyk fight, he got hit 87 times in the last 5 rounds. It was what it was. It will be what it will be unless Tyson forgets the past, returns to his roots, and gets back to what got him to where he is in the first place. A 6'9" boxer is like a 6'5" sprinter in athletics. They are naturally at a disadvantage. It takes a lot of disciplined training and coaching to turn them into a world-level elite professional. Yet Glen Mills did that with Usain Bolt as Peter Fury did that with T. Fury. If T. Fury continues to turn his back on that, an Usyk victory is assured in December. There is no doubt about that. It is all up to him.

The case for Usyk being considered one of the greatest fighters of all time can be boiled down to this: today's world class athletes, including boxers, are the best conditioned in history. The science which guides their training, rest and nutrition is miles ahead of the old fashioned gym boxing of the past. When you consider the fact that Usyk has beaten every opponent of note, and that he is one of the most skilled and best conditioned athletes in the world, it's hard to see how he wouldn't have beaten the best boxers of the past.

Disagree on the conditioning. Fury couldn’t keep up with the pace at all. You could see his form and posture starting to melt from the 7th rd. it’s one of the reasons Usyk took over in the second half of the fight, just like he always does. I bet on Usyk by stoppage 9-12 and that ref cost me 400 pounds. I scored the fight 1-3 Usyk, 4-6 Fury, 7-12 Usyk.

Usyk won 1-3 7-11 12 was an Usyk round but it was close, and I think it was 4 or 5 that looked like a fury round but watching it back was actually an Usyk round. It was a wide Usyk win. I meant he handled it enough to get to the end and still be fighting... absolutely right that he could not handle the pace of Usyk. Usyk MAKES people move and fight at a pace they are not used to and can't handle for the full 3 mins of the round and the full 12 rounds of the fight. They HAVE to take "time off" and that is when Usyk can shine. I was being overly generous to Fury on purpose and still had to give everything to Usyk by a wide margin. We have been saying for years that Usyk will beat them all.

Only a delusional Luke fangirl would call an Olympic Gold Medal winning heavyweight a "robot". I've always thought AJ would KO Luke and that's why he's ducked him.

AJ is a big stiff body builder. What elusiveness has he ever displayed? Andy Ruiz put him on the canvas. And the second fight AJ played it safe and just tried not to get caught by Ruiz

Great analogy Russell, I still don't think Fury fans would believe it even if the ref stopped it, they are a Phenomenon it's like a Cult of brainwashed fans.

I was just thinking that myself last night. I've been following Usyk since he was fighting at cruiserweight, so I was not suprised when he beat both AJ and Fury. He should retire and spend time with his family, because fury would never of give him a rematch if the tables were turned. Even if he does have the rematch I think it would be the same result, and Usyk will probably stop him if they do fight again.
