If I'm going from UK to Shanghai and then japan and then back to Shanghai and then home to the UK. Would I be eligible or not as it might be classed as a round trip
Hi, before the second time entering Shanghai, you will need to show an on ward ticket to a third country. Direct ticket to UK doesn't count.

True. The policy has enabled lots of people to explore China freely, and somehow benefited the economy here. It's a win-win. Hope one day Chinese people could have the same visa free policy from some of the countries. They have money to spend, and some of those countries are experiencing really bad time in terms of economy.

Can we change the order of visiting countries and still qualify? US to Vietnam, Vietnam to China. Then china back to US? The tix from China to US has 1 day layover in Japan. I will stay in Japan to explore Tokyo. Is this count as onward to a 3rd country?
Hi Lily, I'm afraid the answer is Negative. As it is a visa-free Transit policy, you will need a connecting ticket to a third country/region before enter China (video 3:40 Document Checklist). So it should be US-China-Vietnam-US.
@ US to China China back to US. However, the flights back to US from China has 1 day layover in Japan. Is the layover in Japan qualifies as an onward country before returning to US? I will stay in Japan for 1 day
@JadeinChina024 I am confused why this itinerary doesn't qualify. They are going from Vietnam -> China -> Japan on a US passport. Why would that not qualify as transit? If they were returning to Vietnam first I would understand as they wouldn't be transiting through China to a third country, but Japan IS the third country. Please explain.

The official exact words are "The applicant must hold interline passenger tickets or other documents with a specified date and seat to a third country (region) within 240 hours". I think you forgot to tell people to download apps before entering china. You need alipay and didi and wechat. And you have to tell people to connect those apps with bank account not credit card. Also VPN.

Can I travel from Chongqing to Sichuan?
Hi, Chongqing and Sichuan are different areas, travel across different areas are not applicable. You will need to enter Chongqing, exit to a third country, then enter Sichuan. Let me know if you have further questions.
