We Got a Skottle! Tembo Tusk Skottle - Captain BirdPhish gives his first impressions.
มุมมอง 11912 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
This will be the most unique first impressions review of the Tembo Tusk Skottle you'll ever see...there's good and bad in here...we give some straight shooting feedback... so stick around! Our Jet Boil Genesis stove we'd been using for about a year and a half stopped working well enough to keep on using it... and being so expensive of a stove we looked for something different to replace it with...
VSSL Coffee Grinder Review - 3 years use
มุมมอง 10621 วันที่ผ่านมา
I review my uber quality coffee grinder by VSSL. I have the new G-25 model and an older original unit to compare it with to see what improvements have been made and what they maybe could have done better with the new design. I've been using a VSSL grinder exclusively multiple times daily for the last 3 years so lots of experience...be sure to see this one if you're interested in the VSSL grinde...

Piece of Cake
มุมมอง 101หลายเดือนก่อน
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! Ahead of the occasion we baked a Lazy Daisy Oatmeal Cake in the Kimbo! This is a recipe that's been around a very long time and most say it's better the next day. My mother made the recipe card I use for me and she used to bake this on the regular for the family when I was a boy and used to joke that it never lasted long enough for her to make the frosting for it. I...
Moonlit IronWood Forest
มุมมอง 406หลายเดือนก่อน
We bring the Kimbo back to one of our favorite spots we've been to yet, Ironwood Forest National Monument. This time during a different time of the year and during a full moon....the desert seems to make the moon seem even brighter and almost like it's daylight only with stars. And I make a cup of coffee with beans roasted in Idaho...and later a pot of chili beans that lasts us for a couple day...
Overlook and Valley

Snowed On but not Snowed In
มุมมอง 4.4K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
When we see an early Mid-October winter storm warning we played it safe and got down out of higher in the Utah mountains where the trail in becomes impassable in winter to a better spot where we won't get snowed in... but still get snowed on.
Ducks and Poppers - Extended!
มุมมอง 882 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is an extended version - I've added some more wildlife clips at the end of the original, no more music....just nature. We take the Kimbo and camp right on a beach at a reservoir in Nevada while waiting for mail to be forwarded to us. It was busy with fast speed boats, ski boats and personal watercraft on the weekend but quiet during the week and you can choose to camp in the campgrounds wi...

We take the Kimbo and camp right on a beach at a reservoir in Nevada while waiting for mail to be forwarded to us. It was busy with fast speed boats, ski boats and personal watercraft on the weekend but quiet during the week and you can choose to camp in the campgrounds with showers or take the dispersed route and camp on any of the beaches with lots of room all to yourself. Lots of Ducks and o...
The Playa - a slice of Kimbo Life
มุมมอง 1693 หลายเดือนก่อน
A slice of Kimbo Life on"Tthe Playa" in the Black Rock Desert....and a slice of steak! The Burning Man Festival extravaganza had just ended, crews were still hauling out equipment used to stage the event and the fencing was still up. I try to show in this video two of the stark different faces The Playa will show you while there...we left before the 3rd one was about to show up...rain and mud lol

Fresh Flan Kimbo Living
มุมมอง 1774 หลายเดือนก่อน
We enjoy some Fresh Flan I made using the toaster oven in the Kimbo! What good is life if you don't treat yourself to something special now and then....and something like Fresh Flan is especially gratifying when you make it out in the field....Kimbo living! Of course I'd made Flan in the filed once before when I had the trailer but this time...since we're full time Kimbo Living.... it was even ...
Morning Coffee - One Year Later
มุมมอง 1.4K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
After living for just over a full year full time in the Kimbo I make another morning coffee video, this time in some Oregon grasslands. A little bit has changed in the routine and the Kimbo since that first morning coffee video but much remains the same, which to me means that I got a lot of things right when I moved into the Kimbo with no experience camping in it yet. Compare this video with m...

Thank you bird I enjoy all your trav e ls and videos I hope to be in a truck camper traveling one day thanks and happy new year
I appreciate the comments RDog....Happy New Year!
Like a shallow wok.
That's pretty much correct...I've never cooked with a wok so I can't say what the diff would be but this this is fairly thick...I like it so far...there is a learning curve and it's better at some things than others imo..
Thanks bird that s o s brings back memories. it looks good
My pleasure RDog!....yeah the Skottle is perfect for this kind of dish....but you do still need a reg stove for the boiling eggs and stuff. Thanks for watching and the comment!
I've got a VSSL coffee grinder in my Kimbo and love it! Highly recommend. Slightly expensive but great built quality!
That's cool....some things are worth the extra coin and thisi is one of those things. A Casio will tell you the time but it's not the same as having a Rolex on your wrist. Thanks for watching... and the comment!
Thanks bird if i ever get a grinder i will remember this
Good to see you here RDog!
Do you or would you build the cab over solar and sell to me if and when I get a Kimbo ? - Thank You Ben
Sorry Ben.... that would be a tough thing for me to do retired and living on the road out of my Kimbo....my unit I added and built out in the field while camping. Trips into town and Home Depot then back out to camp....a hack saw, drill and pop rivets lol. What I can do is make a detailed video of my installation and post in the future ...give you some direction and ideas.... Also keep in mind the 600 watts of solar I have now is going into custom lithium battery set up too...the EcoFlow power unit that came with the Kimbo will not take that much solar power. Thanks for watching though and the questions!
@ thank you for responding. Very kind. If ever in Carmel by the Sea lunch on me
What did he do? The video was blurry; I did not see the purpose of this.
You're right the wires I snipped were not in focus unfortunately so it doesn't show very well and i didn't vocalize what wires I was snipping when I actually did it....however ...you must have missed around 1:30 in the video I explained support told me to look for a connection labeled "thermal" that had 4 white wires leading to it...i needed to snip the two white wires on it with black marks to dissable the "Too Hot" sensor. Sorry if it wasn't very clear to you what I did and why.
Looks good bird thanks for sharing your trips with us
My pleasure RDog!
Wow nice rig. Great video!
Thank you! I really appreciate the view and comment!
Bird where are you camping that chow looks great and the pictures are very nice thanks for sharing with me love to see your trips and videos😊
Thanks RDog...the spot is in Arizona, Ironwood Forest National Monument....overlooked I think with SO many things to see in Arizona
Great video
Thanks for watching and the comment!
PS.the breakfast is how I do mine often, different upon what veggies are available.. the burger looked awesome.. do similar.. different cheese, n veggies diced upon what is available. tougher on the gas stove... but NICE flip w the egg dish... never would have thought using the cover to do... wife! had one of those...(long term girlfriend from MX . met in CA ).. she loved to sing... Karaoke... n with songs on the radio.. lol. we have some in common.. being old farts with similar interests.. :). Nice the star link.. What kind of work you n the misses do in past before living on the road if doing that? Thx..
Thanks for the very nice comments! And views! I met the wife at work...I was a Process Engineer...one of the biger achievements was developing the injection molding process for the components that make the Sharpie Marker
I do love your relaxed way of throwing in the day to day mundane shots.. in focus or whatever... and the awesome time shots of something special as night under the stars. I had camped many mountain/ desert... prairie/ lake places, and there is always something rememberable... wildlife, the scenery at the camp spot... cooking, n enjoying.. cool folks bumping into, or stars.... n peaceful silence. I admire the bloggers that talk minimally and music occasionally... not all the time as it seems like a tv show.... special otherwise. last decade seen dozens of the ones I like... many so so.. yours is in the top 12 for sure... for the honest portrayal and the common persons out their as I am one of them..... Salad!! Ric, MN
Finally getting around to a reply...busy as heck sometimes. I really appreciate the views...I know there are lot of channels and time is so fleeting....so posting a comment is even more appreciated and long comments such as this deserve a proper reply in my book. I try to keep things real and hope it comes thru in the videos...film stuff I like and hope others like it as well. Sometimes I have a plan or train of thought but often I just get inspired by the surroundings...always looking for interesting plant and animal life and just share what it's like in a Kimbo. Thanks for the comments and views and be sure to watch my other videos! th-cam.com/video/5yQavWralfc/w-d-xo.html
Hey man!... Love the parking/ camp spot... similar to ones I been in past a few times... Have seen a couple Legendary Pink Dot shows!! , and have the same Toy.. truck as yours!! mine 07 Tacoma base reg cab bought new in CA 21,000 4x4, 2.7L, manual... few extras.. not made any longer in that configuration... 100k miles.. bare camper shell used in CA.. while living there n outdoor tripping/ camping in AZ, CA, NM, Nevada, MN, UP MI, WI CO UT. Snow, mountains, mammoth lakes, Tahoe.. San Bernadino's n desert especially loved exploring.. n camping. The Kimbo topper looks to be a cool affordable upgrade to mine... 500 my reg. fiber. topper used bought.. in 07. ... how much approx. for yours new or used one? Just how I camp... few modest upgrades, and moveable stuff.. tent it and a screen tent, extra water, full spare.. lights, das cooker, n little heat.. few bits of comfort of home!. Thx! Ric MN
Pink Dots are legendary lol. Same as I paid for my Taco new too...just got a 100k mile service done a couple months ago. The Kimbo was fully loaded, just shy of $40k so it is not a cheap camper but you can get them bare and build them out yourself to save a few bucs. Thanks for the view and comment!
Great vid!
Thank you! i much appreciate the view and comment!
How’s the Kimbo in the cold? I’ll be doing some camping in mine this winter but pass along any tips you may have!
We stay cozy warm in the cold no problem. A small battery powered fan helps circulate the warm air from the Dickenson heater...it'll be warm up top in the loft and colder down by your feet without one. I crack open the top vent to let some air vent out the top too....it can get too warm easy. I run the flame low as possible and the fan med to fast speed. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Aweee your dog is soo cute!
missed this comment sorry...yeah his eyes make you melt when he's looking at you...
Beautiful!
Thank you! I love doing time lapse videos...
Looks amazing! And cuuute pup!
We love the dog...he was a rescue dog we've had a few months now...he's the best dog we could have ever hoped for! Thanks for the comment and watching!
Kimbo such a neat camper, looks like a NASA moonlander. I love those Dickinson heaters, kept me alive in 1 week power outages in -20C
I never hesitate to fire up the Dickinson lol - thanks for watching and commenting!
Had to watch again
Thanks RDog....nice compliment!
When did you get a dog?
About a month or so ago...rescue dog that has turned out to be the best dog ever could have hoped for. For the wife but i sorta like him too. We'll try to do a little vid of him to introduce him.
Keep em coming! You are living the dream my friend
Thanks K...i have to pinch myself all the time lol...
Thanks bird love your pics 😊
Thank you dog for watching and the comment!
Enjoy life
Thanks... same to you!
Amazing :) I've never seen the night sky in such a lightened tone
Thank you!...today's cameras are incredible in what you can do with them. thanks for watching and commenting!
Another inspiring video….keep em coming
Thanks K for watching and the kind comment!
What setup is that slide out solar panel?
3 off the shelf 100 watt Renogy solar panels and a 500 lb. drawer slide....everything else is custom build and design by me in the field while camping!. Same panels as came on the roof of the Kimbo so I have 600 watts total charging my 2 SOK lithium batteries
I live near Bellingham and am a Land Surveyor. Working a job I looked across the street and what did I see? KIMBO ! Yes.where they hand build them and I went over and got a great in depth tour of those being built as well as the original designed unit which is there and some others ready for delivery. They are pretty coo campers and have a lot of thought put into them being functional and minimalistic.
Very cool! The minimalistic aspect is one of the best things about the Kimbo...love it. Did you know their sister company Trayvax is just down the street...really cool wallets and stuff....
Kimbo thoughts in a video?
yeah this is a project I have to get done....peopel want to know. Some tragic life events have been taking up all my time lately but I'll get to it soon. thanks for watching and commenting!
How does the 2.7 handle all of that weight? I’m considering moving over to a regular cab, but not sure if it would be able to handle a slide in.
I have the 5spd manual tranny so it's just a matter of selecting the right gear the the 2.7 will pull in the situation. generally I'm keeping up in traffic even in the hills but ur not going to do 80 on the freeway with this combo lol. I try to keep the revs up between 3-4k so it's 65-70mph in 4th and if it won't pull that up a hill shift down to 3rd and 4k rpm for 60mph and it goes up about anything but the steepest of hills. off road in 4 low it has tons of torque no issues there
@@BirdPhish any suspension mods? Did you add a bigger leaf pack or airbags?
@@LUNAdaniel1234 I have an Icon stage 3 kit for a 2” lift that came with a added leaf spring and I have Firestone air spring in the rear
Nice thanks for sharing your morning bird
My pleasure roaddog....it's been pretty awesome...I've seen more sunrises this past year than I'd seen in my whole lifetime prior to Kimbo life.....thanks for watching and commenting!
GOOD MORNING
I like my coffee black....thanks for watching!
Weird I know I saw this rig at a laundromat a week or two back and now the youtube gods have shown me this video
hahaha....I hate doing laundry... but living out of the Kimbo it's a necessary chore every few weeks ...
Great scenery was that a hummingbird in the desert didn't know they could live out there thanks bird. I learn something new from every one of your video
Lots of Hummingbirds in the deserts....when we lived in Paris, CA for awhile it was hot desert out there and we had litteraly hords of hummingbirds feeding off our feeders....but that bird at the top of the cactus in this video was not one....not sure what breed but I think it was feeding on insects that were harvesting pollen from the flowers. There were some birds with strange calls out there...loved it hahaha. Thanks dog for watching and commenting!
Nice scenery thanks bird
My pleasure roaddog! I used to camp on the beach at Pismo Beach and also down at Imperial Sand Dunes by Glamis to ride the sand dunes with my ATV....these dunes the sand is different, more hard packed, unfortunately they suspended camping out in White Sands dunes for the time being. The grassland were very nice...loved it there.
New sub here. Excited to see more of the Kimbo and learn about its quality. Sorry about your trailer.
Glad to have you subbed...thank you! Costly lessen the trailer was...life goes on tho. This weekend we've been at Overland Expo West and Off Grid is here showing their new trailers....they've fixed all the issues I had with mine but looking around the Expo I've seen so many better trailers out there imho.... Cheers...thanks for watching and all!
That's amazing place❤
This place was truly amazing…. I will never forget it that is for sure 👍
@@BirdPhish wow, that sounds amazing! I'd love to hear more about it.
@@abirhossen3361 the crazy weather....very humid one day like on the east coast and then dry desert air like you'd expect there combined with the abundant wildlife was all sort of unexpected for me....we just needed a place to hang out to see the Eclipse and got a lot more :)
Well done….nature is a wonderful thing……K
Thanks as always K...this place I liked a lot...the weather made it feel real strange tho being an arid desert environment and yet have some days with so much humidity...
Beautiful!! 🔥 🔥
thanks man....uploading new content is always fun but ...I couldn't wait to post this one
very cool
Thanks Steve
Nice bird keep it coming i like to see your dide of the country
Thanks roaddog... I appreciate the views and comments. I love posting new content and having a great time trying to create it so no plans to stop any time soon....
Once again you and your wife have captured nature in it’s raw form…….fantastic job……Kdog
Thanks 🙏 K! Straight out of the camera …raw and unaltered lol
I really enjoyed the timelapse. Jason
Thanks Jason...really appreciate your visit and comment! I do love time laspe vids...
Look for the Kit Fox photo bombing my night lapse at around the 2:40 time into the video....he/she shows up as a ghost image moving just above the green traction boards. I saw it in real time and have some video of it climbing all over the tailgate...a cute little Fox it was. Also make sure to set your viewer to 4K to see all the stars!
Very spooky
Spiders give me the creeps and that one was the creepiest! It was chill though and kind of cool to see it. Thanks for watching K!
Having a bad day RC? Don’t like his content don’t watch it. No ones forcing you to watch, he’s trying to build his channel everyone does it in a different way.
Nice that french toast was plate liking good great pics of the rams also thank you for sharing your travels 😀
LOL....the wife loves my french toast...the rams were a huge unexpected bonus to our stay...we had one guy get spooked about being the last one around and took off at full speed right past the Kimbo....wish I could have captured it but it happened too fast...it was quite impressive
Thanks bird we didn't have that view on the south east I appreciate your travels and photos 👍
yeah we were fortunate to get some clearing...the forcast was looking pretty bleak and that morning it didn't look good but we stayed put and it cleared just enough...maybe I can last 20 years for the next one lol...
Yes we did
