I may have to modify my ROR based on your design. Curious, how long of a chain did you get, based on your shed size and where did you purchase the chain from? I am hoping my Aleko motor will allow my to remove the train 'head' and replace it with one that I can attach a chain too. Did a quick search and cannot seem to find the 'gear' heads for the chains. Do you have a link for those???

my question is with the usb and power connections running through the mount, why do you have so much stuff on top of the scope. makes sense if you don't have connections through the mount but not the way it is now. Just because the mount can handle the weight, it doesn't need to hold it all. By the way, with a usb connection on the mount, an eqdirect cable is unneccesary.

Very nice review, that Wave 150 mount looks really interesting. But I wonder why nobody on the internet does a real test with heavy payloads on these strainwave mounts. That being said, I would never trust that tripod ...

Thank you for taking a chance on this new mount. I’m surprised the typical influencers haven’t been given mounts to throughly review yet. Low carbon, what nonsense. Looks like once you adjust the altitude you can’t put the mount back in the case. I have to set up and tear down every session and would need to put the mount back in the case. Guess you have to cut the foam. Looks like guiding worked out great. How did your orthogonal graph come out in PHD2, right angle? Did the Guiding Assistant show any backlash in the pyramid graph?

I've been looking at this mount to replace my Celestron CGX mount (which is showing its age) and host the big Celestron 11" Edge scope. I am impressed with its statistics, and seeing it functioning in the field shows that those stats are very real. One of the reasons I prefer investing in this mount vs. the AM5N is the issue of being able to balance in the declination axis. I understand your mount has a clutch for this axis; is that correct? This was a quick response from me whining on your last video that you didn't show your roll-off method. Thanks for the fast response. I was staying away from the chain method because I didn't want a sagging chain making the mechanism both unsafe and unsightly. You solved both problems by running your chain horizontally instead of the common vertical configuration. I really like it and will, with your blessings, incorporate this in my new 8x10 building!

Building a small observatory is not much different than a garden shed except for one major difference. The method used to make the roof a roll-off. This is a nice video but would have been totally complete if you had included the roll-off mechanism.

How does the Deep Sky Dad panel show up in the flat panel equipment folder? I don't see a DSD choice there. What should it say?

Thanks. I have the bigger flat panel for a 6 inch Newtonian. Unfortunately, like you, it blocked my guide scope. I can't mount it to the side like you did because it will throw off balance and DSD says it has to be mounted straight up. I would have to go with an OAG, which is a PIA. Oh well, my scope is going to a remote hosting site and they won't let me keep the flat panel mounted because as the panel opens and closes, the "swing diameter" of the rig exceeds the limit. They pack in the scopes and you can't hit anyone's rig. So they will have to come stick it on there every time I need to take calibration frames (which can't be every day, they won't do it, I will have to reuse flats/dark flats/darks, too bad). You figured a lot of data in there for your filters. I must learn that, I have just let NINA tell me that my light is too bright or too dim and then adjust the brightness. Your way obviously better.

24 years ago I bought a Lowe's storage building about the same size of your building. I installed it on bricks and left the top off. I still have the building. It was great for keeping from seeing street lights etc. It sure worked good. But of course yours is much better. But Mine got the job done. 🙂

About 24 years ago I bought a Lowes storage building that you put together. I put down bricks and set it on top of the bricks and left the roof off. It was a great place to view with my telescope and not have lights messing up my views. I still have it.

Thanks for the video. Can you still manually open and close the roof if needed (i.e. power outage)? btw - I'm doing astrophotography near Somerset, KY and getting a ROR is my next project so I'm getting as much info as possible.

Any particular reason for the orientation of the building (doorway facing North)? I would have oriented the area the roof rolls to as North, mainly because I don't go "below" Polaris in that direction, most of my good sky is from E to WSW. I wish I'd built something like this many years ago. Too old to start now, and light pollution has reduced what I can see where I am now.

Great video I'm starting to get up in my years now turning 65 this year purchased the plans from sky shed your video shows the roll off observatory better than anyone else on TH-cam so tired of setting up my C8 on a Celestron Avx mount with all the accessories that I use to visually and take Astrophtotogry keep up the great work you have been doing I look forward to seeing more videos from you down in brooksville fla were I live 10:25

We have very similar style using NINA, similar guiding numbers, similar star HFR and similar rig (my little bit more simple). Scary!!! I just don’t have observatory.
