Whiskey's Blues Gumbo: Stones in my Passway
We are so fortunate that Alan Lomax recorded these interviews and lots of music that might have been completely lost without his incredible work.
Great stuff for the ages. Glad it was captured at the time and preserved. Thanks for uploading.
Many thanks fella. I’m slowly getting it.
Still the best howlin wolf
His diction was very clear to me. Reminds me of my Grandmother's generation from down home. Their conversations were meant for your heart, not your ears !!!
How can i learn to play guitar like these three blues men!😢
Just keep listening and playing. You'll find your own sound.
Two of my favorite musicians. She had a lot to say about McDowell in the documentary about him called “Shake em on down”
How can this only have 13 likes? I'd like it a hundred times if I could....
One of the reasons that I first started looking out for Colin was hearing he had played with Stevie Ray.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Robert inspired every misician from elvis to the beatles and rolling stones to eric Clapton
How are there no comments on the interview of this great Mississippi legend? RIP John Lee
Son House and Buddy so good together
Amazing film
Is that Buddy Miles on Bass ?
Not sure... could be Jack Myers.
Hey Whiskey and Monk
Hi Stone Reaper.
you know its so hard to love someone who don't love you
Fastest "Saved" ever. God bless both of them ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
And I got to see Muddy Waters perform live a number of times. Mentioning that gives me goosebumps
I know the person who organized the purchase of Son House's headstone.
Buddy Guy is the favorite Guitar Player from interviews w/ Top performers like: Jorma Kaukonen, BECK, Clapton, Page, Hendrix & SRV & his Bands w/ : 'The Jr Wells-Buddy Guy Blues Band' &/or Blues Review' were blazing away in DC, Denver (2 night stays- Denver iS an 'Interstate Crossroads'(E-W I-70+N-S I-25). As they'd figure out N,S,E or W- two nights in Denver & selling a few dozen Peppermint Lounge &/or Checkerboard Lounge T-shirts (for Gas money or fkg Royal Gate; Jr had class). Those Backing Bands knew- KNEW!- WHAT WAS NEXT. I never saw a set list. 'That's amazing!' No, Buddy - Jr worked on the shows w/whoever was the Band leader until they had it right. Every time I saw Buddy Guy (w/without Jr) I was jolted up outta my seat - a low population bar or an Auditorium & DC>DENVER ×2,"×2,"×2, Ft Lauderdale (NYE when Fender woke up & finally Respected Buddy-'91-2(±), & Redding, CA my last PRE-VID Show: He always had the ability to make serious audience members jolt/jerk up outta Our (12±) chairs/seats, anywhere in the USA- NO Setlists but tight! I miss his GUILD - Model -? Buddy always did his best & No SETLISTS. He could shift gears & shut 'em down as he said "WAIT A MINUTE!" SILENCE from the Stage. They were ripped off in the 'Festival Express' Tour of Canada just as at Live AID. Where are the Black Artists? Only Teddy P (The Voice of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes!) w/ Ashford & Simpson & Tina Turner, & Patti Labelle-who lived in Philly- & a few others at Live AID! Buddy would've been a backbreaker at Kennedy Stadium! Only after THE VID has Buddy slowed down & for the first 2 times since THE VID: 8-4+6-2023 (at 87 since 7-30-23 a week before or less - were the first times since 3-5-20 in Redding, CA was I not jerked up out of my seat & didn't see any others Hit that way either. The Real Deal was a Sharecropper's Son, had limited vocabulary & ability to construct Songs- not just 🎼music 🎶- Songs that made me, others in the same venue spaz like there was an Epilepsy Convention in the area & this was the entertainment scheduled for them! No one was better than Buddy Guy w/that double cut GUILD as in the '80s! Nobody. He knew he was able to rip apart but then he had class & showmanship & the illusion of competition in the works. That's SAD- He told Clapton he had to beg off Crossroads for, I think, the 1st time ever this time. Once he got his Kennedy Center Award- no more hanging w/the crowds. Look up Chicago Hustle '82 (w/that GUILD I believe). It's the time frame. He didn't have to show up anybody else by then. He's been credited by Jimi, SRV, E.C. & BECK & THEY KNEW THAT HE WAS JUST BEING POLITE & 'DIPLOMATIC SO AS NOT TO UPSTAGE THEM- AS A GUEST AT THEIR SHOWS. He's going to be 88 on July 30th. Maybe. If you never saw & heard him in the '80s- you'll never know. Footage of Buddy, Buddy Miles & Jack Bruce in London & Muddy telling him about getting screwed by Mgmnt people was Fatherly advice on the Biz. Look, listen & watch the 'Lick This' Instructional DVD Series by Buddy for a glimpse OR you'll never know what you missed & what He could do! January's were either filmed &/or 'just' recorded & I bought everything I saw by him from Buddy's Legends- you can't get better from a Sharecropper's Son in Louisiana. Buddy in the 80s & 90s was a knock out; ask Clapton. Watch the next one after this- OR- "BUDDY GUY BERN 2000" AS HE'S INTO THE CROWD WAILING & WALKING AROUND THE AUDIENCE doing'I Just Want To Make Love To You'. I DON'T LIE. ENJOY THE TIMES WHEN HE HAD LONG, RELAXED HAIR (AGE SPAN- NOT FOR THE FASHION STATEMENT). A LOT OF 'MID-LIFE' CRISES (PLURAL FOR 1 CRISIS) LOL
You're selfish about the truth. I was at L.AID & TAPED THE ENTIRE THING. DOES THAT OFFEND YOU FOR SOME REASON? SAD. YOUR EDITS ARE JUST DISSUADING PEOPLE FROM GETTING A BETTER IDEA THEY SHOULD LOOK AT MORE THAN JUST WHAT YOU THINK IS ENOUGH.
'and he threw his head back, and his eyes rolled back, and he took a long breath, and a moment went by, and then he let the breath go, and in that moment Son House became the blues!"
I'm 59 yrs old and just learned a bunch of really cool stuff bout the Wolf. I'm glad his last show was his best. So many people don't get that chance,to know, that audience got my best.
Excellent! Thank you.
"...Robert Johnson, he put it out Walkin' Blues." They're talking about a Muddy song but what song are they talking about?
Muddy is talking about learning the tune "Walking Blues" that both he and RJ learned from Son House. RJ recorded it on record and it was released in 1936. Son House had been playing that song and teaching it to others as early as 1930.
Country Blues it is called on the albums
Very Interesting , Thanks for the Post!
Monterrey 1967
I got this understand the Honeyboy easy enough , Scots accent much harder 😂 but yeh not a lot pauses
Had been at the museum run by his grandson Steven Johnson. He told us the same story. It was "bad" whisky.
There seems to be some speculation as to where Robert Johnson is buried...I've been to the 'pecan tree' burial at Little Zion although a couple other cemeteries in or around Greenwood claim to having his final resting place too...
Are you still playing? Maybe HoneyBoy's story needs to be told and you may be one of few to be able to tell some of it.
I met Honeyboy and saw him play at the Juke joint festival in Clarksdale Miss in 2009.....really humble and cool guy! I felt really starstruck...he was the Real Deal!
Sounds like he was poisoned by thT woman's husband, he knew and got the bottle ready. The waitress knew which one to give him. First of the 27 Club, and the first Guitar Hero.
I love it ❤
Subtitles needed here . Didnt get one word in. ten!
Wow! The very last line is pretty significant for guitar players into the delta blues. He called the name of E tuning “Crossnote”. That’s a favorite of Skip James like in the song “Hard time killing floor blues” It flattens the 3rd to a minor chord.
Who is playing the intro music 😊
That's a sample blues track from the TH-cam creator studio.

Legends!!! 2024!⚡🎸⚡🎸⚡🙌🙌🙌😎😎😎😎🎶🎶🎶🎶
I saw Honeyboy play here in Toronto at Harbourfront. I photographed him during his show and had a chance to speak with him after the show. He was a real gentleman.
Best guitar book I ever had
Very Cool, several generations of blues there.
Hi I have just reserected the Lead Guitar by Harvey Vinson baught probably when it first became available 1972. However I do not have the disk to go with it. I appreciate you have gone to the trouble to create an instruction video, could you say in the videos what page you are working from. I am amazed to find you working from this book!
Whiskey??
Yeah, man! I can always count on you to upload something I haven't seen before. Thanks for posting.
He sure spoke quickly. Coulda done a killer version of Walk This Way....
David "Honeyboy" Edwards was the last original Delta Bluesman to have walked this world... he was last man standing...
I saw him at BBs in Manhattan about 2008 or so. Great treat
And the Killer was the last man standing in Rock and Roll.
I bet Prince was great admirer of Buddy Guy! Man what a powerhouse!
Beautiful
