I was a dealership technician for 10yrs. It's true what he says. After a few years in, I developed a niche for the electrical systems, and whatever other jobs techs didn't want to do. The others took most of the gravy work. I became a problem solver. Make the story short... I felt I deserved more. I skipped the line , went to the ceo , and negotiated a pay that was above everyone's (even the senior techs). Yes, the first couple years were grueling. In the end work hard , and know your worth. BTW, I'm no longer at the dealership. My work experience allowed to me move to another company where I mainly do electrical diagnostics, so much more happier.

These techs need to open up their own shops. I once had a simple water pump job and paid $600 for a GMC. That was 15 years ago and the final straw. I have not been to a mechanic since. I’ve done all my work since and have done the clutch, suspension, brakes and cooling system overhaul.

This is shocking. Also one of the best videos in my opinion. For about 15 yrs. I had what I thought to be very good repairs at my local Subaru dealer until more than once they caused major damage to other components while they had my car. They had all the answers to protect themselves when I complained. Getting the car rechecked with them was a bigger joke yet. I got to overhear conversations between other customers & serice advisors and the nightmare repairs + costs they were announcing. I was sick to my stomach. My car is ruined by them and I hate what they are doing to any of us. I have nothing good to say about Ertle Subaru in Stroudsburg, Pa. Now my car wont pass inspection and I can't afford any repairs or to buy another vehicle. There's alot more to tell you but I don't like typing so I won't. Approximately 3 or 4 yrs.(?) ago I noticed an obvious shift there from excellence to theivery. They are enterprising on scams. Probably abusing their techs as well. 💩😞

I have a lot of similar stuff going on at my job. I make car parts for Honda's and Ford's and a few gm parts. On kind of a different note and please don't take it the wrong way but this is how it is. I do my job better than others and because I can go so fast or am more accurate I'll never move up at all. Promotion goes to people who either refuse to do some jobs they say oh I can't do this or that because it makes my finger hurt or whatever they get the other jobs that pay more and are easier. Even tho I'm the only other person already certified on that job it's given to someone who now sleeps three hours a day while me and a hand full of Mexicans do all the real work. I can't go to deep in this without sounding racist but it's not my opinion this is factual. All my supervisors are black. Some of them only work for the 15 minutes I'm on my breaks. Or at lunch. The rest of the day they just walk around. I hate it because I like working there but I don't have food stamps or government assistance so since I can't get moved up any way cuz I'm not black, well I'll have to find a different job not dominated by black people. The Mexicans who work there seem to go back to Mexico after certain periods of time. Just my observation.

I'm 45 years old now but when I was 20 years old I graduated from a school as an automotive technician, my first job was at a Toyota dealership in the Bay Area .... I stopped my primary job washing dishes at $13.50 an hour and started my new job at the Toyota dealership at $7 an hour .... and then I quickly realized that this was garbage .... everything you said it's 100% true one day leaving the dealer I saw a young guy my age making 6,000 a month as a salesperson and I was only making like 1400 a month as a Lube Tech or mechanic whatever you want to call it. Everything you said is true. I sold my tools and paid off my tuition 15k I never went back has a car mechanic.

That’s exactly why I don’t do any type of business with stealerships service department technicians are ready to go postal on anybody asking them a work related question and most of the time if they’re working on your car they will take that frustration on your car 🚗

i quit the dealer in 2017 and haven't looked back since. I was honest, caring, well spoken and nice to everyone I dealt with. no wonder the younger generation doesn't want to go into the automotive industry. something needs to change, we get treated like cr^p

Sounds like a shit culture. There are decent dealerships but not once have i worked for a good dealer the current dealer i work for is shite but they pay very well so give and take they respect their certified techs but the used car techs they dont. Im fully master cert and i get favoritism and i call it out sometimes i tell em hey im on alright hours give it to xyz tech hes low and i always get weird looks
