Cycling at Sutton Bank
มุมมอง 747 ปีที่แล้ว
A quick edit after a day cycling at Sutton Bank in the snow with the DJI Mavic. Main rider is Nick Reynolds, second rider and camera operator Mike Barnard.
Suspension action looks good, ride comfort would be high, but does look like it could take advantage of some negative camber and some positive caster.
Throw on a front fairing and race it in Ecuador starting above 10,000 foot elevation . Lots of videos on TH-cam .
Are you using bicycle hubs with go kart brakes? Can’t tell from the video. How did you adapt the go kart disc to the bicycle hub?
I took the freewheel off the hub and screwed on a disk break adapter. I used two bike disks on each wheel to get the thickness for the callipers. It was over kill but worked well
you need to create caster angle to allow for "feel" in your steering geometry, if youve got 0 degrees caster your steering will be all over the place and feel terrible
Very nice! But i must admit that i have no idea what this is for. Anyway that's cool!
Show (Nilton César, Brasil)
Super cool Mike! What tube size? How about total weight?
If it tilts why did you make it so wide? Also it looks like your contact patches doesn't fall behind your steering axis on your front wheels. I like it.
I made it wide just because being a trike it will be unstable, I just thought the wider i could get it the more stable it will be, I don’t think making it thinner will give me any significant advantage. The contact patch is in front of the axle by around 4cm, there is a 15deg tilt on the steering pinion.
Very interested in how this ends up. Great idea 💡
are you entered in Harewood Gravity Games?
Not yet, but if I get it built in time I will enter. I don’t see why I won’t get it built in time for it.
if you beam axle the front end then incline the single steering pivot forwards, the body will roll as the beam turns. You can then tune the angle for a given speed where the lean matches the steering input. I did it on a recumbent.
I can`t help thinking, the tilting idea, will make the kart very unstable and unpredictable. won`t the G forces of, say turning left, throw the weight of the body and driver to the right.? How are you going to mount your steering rack, if the body moves it will alter the steering input. Stiff n stable is the way to go. But I cant knock you for trying a new idea.
I'm thinking the same thing. Formula Vee cars used to do a pivoting rear setup to remove camber change from the swing axles, but they still had that anti-roll dealt with by the front end. I guess we'll have to wait and see how he's going to cause it to lean into the corners.
All very good points but I think I have an answer for most of them. (At least planned in my head) As this is a delve into the unknown I have a few ideas. My plan for rolling the kart is to use foot pedals, same as an airplane rudder. Push the left pedal and the kart will roll to the right, push right and it will role left. As for the steering I have two ideas, first is to mound the rack to the bar the front wheels are on. It will be mounted higher up and will move so it will always stay central. Or find the centre of rotation and put a simple go-kart style steering so everything moves around the pivot. It’s hard to explain theses ideas in a comment 😂 it basically just a case of build it and see how I can engineer around the problems.
I'm surprised the axles are strong enough not to bend.
Can u give me some like detentions and specs of ur build looking to build one similar
Hi, I don’t have any plans for building this. I just built it as I went along really. There are a few more build photos on my Instagram if that helps
If I were you I would've thrown an engine it it already. Save some time headed back up hill. Looks like fun.
Interesting video spoilt by awful " music" . What is it , did you build it , what are your goals for it etc . Looks cool but no information on it whatsoever.
It’s a gravity powered racer and yes I built it myself to compete at the Harewood Gravity games this year. It won best engineered kart at the event. I have a video up of a race lap on my channel but most of the build information is on my Instagram page. The video was just some footage I got during the first few test runs. Only reason the music is there is because it would have been 5 minutes of wind noise so I chose to put some music behind it.
Great video Mike. What tyres do you have on the 90?
Hi, I have a set of 35” Kumho Venture Mud Tyres on it! Grips like nothing else!
Really nicely fabricated rig Mike.
Mike we are looking for speed events (rather than novelty events) to run next year. Do you have any suggestions. Thanks.
Hi James, I race at Harewood Gravity Games. You can find them easily enough on Facebook. It is based in the north of England. I have just uploaded a full POV lap of the event onto my channel if you want to check it out.
@@Mike_Barnard Thanks, I found them, looks very interesting with some braking and cornering involved. Any other events? I see there's also one up by the Humber Bridge. We're in Essex, so I wouldn't mind going over to Europe if the event was good and make a trip if it.
@@jameseastwood4984 I know there is an event at the Humber bridge but i haven’t been to it. I’m not sure of any races in Europe but would probably make the drive over for a good one. Honestly Harewood is probably the best one I know off. It’s done over a weekend with practice on Saturday and racing on Sunday. I think I got 15 runs on over the entire weekend. More than you’ll do at any other event.
@@Mike_Barnard Wow 15 runs is good, I'd read their literature on the site and it made it sound like not that many. Plus we do love a bit of camping. We've got various parts arriving this week to start building the steering system next week. My daughter is the intended pilot. I do like your quick release wheel btw.
@@jameseastwood4984 included in the ticket is camping and BBQ so perfect weekend really. I have loads of photos of my build on my Instagram as well if your interested. Got loads more detailed photos on it if you want inspiration.
Looks mint. Love a 90
I have a Nissan patrol zd30 the whole motor all blew at the same time literally. One of the spark plugs blew out the exhaust and the bonnet blew right off onto the ground
Where did you buy your roof rack?
Came with the truck but it’s gone now so can’t look at any branding on it
@@Mike_Barnardthe trucks gone!?
Looks great mate. The dampers look to be doing there job!!👍🏻😎 🏎
4m40 engine Mitsubishi the best I got one but suv Montero 2004 model
rubbish. fucking privet land. for idiots. land must to be for every one. PRISONERS
You just need some better tyres and that thing will shred, I have a montero sport (same as you but not pick up) with some black star caiman and I can go anywhere (when deflated)
I agree. I too have a sport (2001 3.5 xs) and I gave 2015 Toyota Tacoma wheels with BFG KO2's and it shreds. I just need to get a diff lock and I'm set.
been there in mine good place to go.
I've got a few vids of this place on my channel.
Faire plus puissant le moteur
Very cool setup and video! I am a little surprised that the old stock Bix will carry all that equipment.
What tires are you running? They don't look like M/T's
They were just AT tyres. I can't remember what brand
@@Mike_Barnard Thought so, I doubt you'd get stuck like that with some decent M/T's
@@DavidVoxDem I kinda of agree with you the 1 problem was he got stuck because he was siting on the difs and a front diff locker with better tires maybe would allow him to climb the small hill
The bixler can take a heavy payload what battery you use
Hi, I used a 3400mah but it would take two for longer flights
Nice video man did well, looked like there was plenty of slop there haha
Where did you get that gear arrangement for camera panning?
shipcases1951 I made it from some old RC helicopter mAin gears
Great video, But one question, How did you run it all? As in what ampage & how many BEC's did you use?
What weight your setup have?
Would be ausome if you could specify the fpv part names
Hi. I still flight my BIX3 almost all weekend and publish my videos about what a I learn with him and all can learn too. It's a great RC Airplane to learn, I say that in all my videos. The fact of BIX3 have landing gear is advantage in my opinion to learn to do great landings. And have Flaps... Be welcome and again, thanks very much for this review, best regards!
Great work!
Nice video just purchased one of these myself ... thanks for video may thing a bit clearer
your flying time on this 3300mah ??
maciek pawłowski I would get an easy 30 minuets flight time and if I was careful on the throttle I could push to about 40 minuets

Hi! I have the same plane. Show the layout of equipment and tell me why 3 antennas and 3 camera?
Владислав Горячев if you watch the video I explain it all. Only two antenna, one for video one for control. The two black cameras are of the video feed back to base station and the GoPro is for HD video recording.
So, course 1 camera, 1 camera recording monitor, 1 camera recording on "carousel", 1 (under the wing) a record of the earth.... My God!!! Why so many? See the black camera on the "carousel" from the video surveillance kit 832 5.8 Hz. And how much all the equipment weigh?
It's nice to see all angles when you finish flying! I don't know how much it all weighs, flew ok but needed a bit more weight in the tail to balance
"Ladies and gentlemen! We are pleased to welcome you to our the airliner of the mega modern the next generation!!! During the flight you can enjoy a swim in the 100 metre infinity pool with sunbathing at a height of 10 miles to play Golf on the field with 40 holes, a bar, a restaurant, to visit a Brazilian festival... And now with all this try to fly up and reach the flight level...The insurance agent and the chaplain is at the end of the plane, where you will be able to deliver the bus. God bless you! In the name of father, son, and Holy spirit, Amen and goodbye."8- )))))
Pure beauty! :)
What was the flying weight with all the setup?
where did you get the camera pan setup I would really like one please help
Hello, I built the pan setup my self out of an old servo powered gimbal I had. There are 360 mounts available but if you want a self centring mount that can spin 180 each direction you most likely have to build it your self. There are some out there but they are quite expensive. A quick google of RC 360 GoPro mount should but you in the right direction.
You need an equal boom on the other side so it turns randomly and it won't get pushed by the wind
I stumbled on this video and am amazed that plane can still fly with all that gear. This is incredible. Great video and very clear walk through.
Three years later I stumble on the same video and my comment. I still don’t have a Bixler (yet).
Hi Mike - great video, thanks for sharing. I'm interested to know where its was shot, I live in Norfolk so I'm familiar with all the old airfields and this looks like East Anglia. Where did you shoot it, if you don't want to say that's ok.
Hello, thanks! I fly with a club on the disused Acaster airfield just south of York.
How much flying time do you get on the 3300mah battery? What is your final landing voltage?
Hello, I get about 20 to 25 minutes. I try to land with the remaining voltage at about 11.1v
Mi Mike, its a complex set up for sure...lol...I have the T1000 stabiliser with RTH, why in gods name did they not make it automatically reset home position when it found more than six sats?...Mental....It would be really good if you could review the T1000 and clarify how to set Home and what the flashing LEDs mean, because the Manual is just nonsense.....No wait, completely useless...lol......Do you find it hard to turn the plane when the T1000 has its Sat receiver active, ie in Stab Mode..permanently?
