Just had my first day as a runner and man idk. I did extremely well but maybe it’s the restaurant and because I wasn’t getting actual training more like thrown into the water kinda. My restaurant/bar has 1000+ seats with live events I memorized the seats first day. Had no choice I was stressed but I don’t show it. I think I need this though I’m a introvert I have anxiety and stuff but I want to change that. It’s still complicated tho because the pay/hours doesn’t seem worth it and it’s kinda far from me, no car. Idk man, it’s not hard but it’s not easy either, that’s all I can say. Every kitchen is different so like mine is big asf we basically just doing everything like I’m a food runner but we prep n clean n do all of this other stuff too. Idk i feel like they just use us because all the male runners are young. Definitely didn’t see anybody else doing all that miscellaneous stuff. I like it but if it were closer it would be perfect I’ll still try to see if I can manage but if not I’ll find something else
I'm a busser at a casino I love it even have table cloths I gotta put down on the table to I learned to work fast that away customers can come and eat when there hungry and always have clean table
i have a question if 2 busboys are working togther but one of them gets sent home becuse its slow if they only work a half shift while the other stays for all of it does he get 75 percent tips while the one that left early gets 25 percent tips or do they still split it in half
At the restaurant that i work at, the buser doesn't clean the doors, the hostess is the one that does that, also when bussing we don't use trays we carry everything to rush by have, we do have bus tubs, but those are mainly for the kitchen too use, but in the post they have let me use there bus tubs when bussing.
Tbh I’ve been a busser for 8 months and every restaurant is different I work at a beach bar and grill so everything is different but this is likely for Fancy Restaurants
8 months? HAA I've been a busser a red robin restaurant here in Connecticut for over 181/2 years. No I don't love what I do necessarily, it's just the money that's decent that's all. But bussing is very hard and not everyone is built for it. It takes a special person to handle bussing and keep up with the volume of people. Also I buss tables on a Friday and sat night and Im by myself. But I always get it done. But good for you for making a difference. People will prob look down on you for bussing but those people don't realize there's a lot more to bussing than just cleaning off a table. Keep that in mind.
Don't go by what the video is having you do. Every restaurant is different. Fancy restaurants have very different bussing techniques than say a burger joint like Red Robin where I currently work as a busser. I don't use trays I use a bus tub. Much easier and it builds up muscles and hand grip strength.
I would advise anyone reading this to hold that tray with two hands I would also advise them to use a plastic tub or some cart to retrieve the dishes until you get really good practice balancing those trays and taking multiple plates in orders at a time
That's so interesting to hold the tray with three or with your fingertips instead of the flat hand you say it will slide off I would have never known that, I can just imagine how heavy those trays are with more than two dishes and a cup
At Applebee’s an expo is usually a manager (least post covid due to short staffing). It’s a chain dine in restaurant so it’s a little different than the restaurant in this video but our servers are the ones that cut celery, cilantro, parsley, strawberries, etc which we have on our expo line. But it depends on the store bc some other Applebee’s leave those to the kitchen staff to do
Good info. I've been a server for decades but I started at a new restaurant & I expo tonight. Work life is so much easier with a competent food runner.
1. Put a wet towel under your cutting board before you hurt yourself. 2. Who taught you to flip the cutting board? That is, hands down, the laziest, most unsanitary shortcut I've ever seen. 3. Use a proper tool to remove the pits from olives. 4. While handling the olives, why would you use gloves for the entire process, then remove them before the very last step? 5. Stop flipping the cutting board. 6. Why do you need a training video for an expo position?
Where is work at it would be nice to have table number on tables on the side are something...ND they about to cross train me in 2 days ... I'm sure I got this
I'm a busser at olive garden all we do is buss tables but we have a cart with 3 levels on it and each level has a been in it the top is for cups and silverware the middle is trash and dishes like plates and bowls the bottom is just lenins
Dawg... You kidding right?? Boy if I keep scrolling and seeing your comments... "Are you allowed to sit down"? "Are you allowed to sit down"?? Omg. Is this a serious question? Why would someone pay another man to "sit down"? The tables are for your guests, not for you... I don't know how your sheltered ass thinks the world works but this aint it lol
You sound lazy as hell. How you gonna enter the workforce if an entry-level job like busboy "seems really tough" and if you expect to "sit down" while clocked in on the job lmfaoo. This next generation got they ass accustomed to the couch I'm losing faith smh

I'm 14 and I'm getting a job as a busser this summer. Thx for the walkthrough!

I've heard so many diffrent thing 2 do as a busser bruh stressed
frrr😭hows it been going?
Awesome
Update
Busser
being a buser is NOT EASY! especially for restaurants that always has a heavy consistent stream of customers
Bussing is a BS slave job to servers. You are worth more than being somebody's bitch boy
Seems like a lot of this could be done in kitchen prep, why would an expediter/runner have to prep garnish? Is that common ?
Depends on the kitchen, and if the restaurant is staffed enough.
At Applebee’s an expo is usually a manager (least post covid due to short staffing). It’s a chain dine in restaurant so it’s a little different than the restaurant in this video but our servers are the ones that cut celery, cilantro, parsley, strawberries, etc which we have on our expo line. No this is not common
not really unless it’s a business owned by a cheap owner who want to spend less labour cost and save more money
Forgot to wipe the table down lol. Also for bigger tables you will probably need a bus tub. Don't put stuff on a tray thats awful.
I’m Montagnard Jarai indigenous tomorrow I go to work at restaurant busboy hope I be ok
How'd it go?
Just started yesterday at la famiglia it was pretty easy, training was a bit limited but it’s common sense to be honest.
haha is it still easy?
I love being a bus boy ..
Me too 😊
This is so helpful im going to watch this daily because I’m going to work as a busser soon :,)
