Centre axle should not have 2 shackles. A special equalizer is needed for triple axle set up, otherwise that axle will be all over the place.

The spindle is bent on the exact same axis as the load transfer point under the chassis. This makes them prone to bending and failure. The other reason is that "most" people don't need to stay under the DOT req of 13'6". Most of our units are oversized and the height is good to 16'👍

Why do you not recommend drop axles?

Iv never seen an 8 lug axle on a double eye leaf spring suspension. I’m use to seeing the slipper sets ups. Is there a benefit for building one like this? Are those light duty slings or something? I love my slipper style springs and equalizer because they don’t do this. I always hated when my little dual axle trailer did this.

Wouldn’t it be better to unbolt one side?

Horrible design....I can't even believe trailer manufacturers in the US never use a stopper on the frame to prevent overtravel of the equalizer.

First off that shackle set up is wrong, the the leading end of the spring should be attached directly to the frame mount or a rocker box, this set up dose not hold the axle in place from moving back and fourth.

How much tension is on the shackle bolts? Could you have taken off one bolt, and flip the leaf springs into the proper position. And reinstall the lone bolt? You probably need two Jack's, and one jack stand.

No Chinese house jacks, please!

Put your bolts on the other way, heads on the inside, nuts on the outside.. Then if a nut falls off and the bolt backs out, it won't damage a tire.

2 shackles for one spring? Seems like the middle axle would be all over the place designed like that

If the shackle screw is too tight it’s hard to flip back

I'd probably just take the bolts out and but the chackles in there proper location.

Pry bar? Dangerous tip good sir….floor Jack approved for sure, broken bodies are a common “pry at/tire iron” outcome. I’m just trying to aid the instruction and I thank you for such an informative video, keep up the good work 👍

Wonderful Trailers.. If your going to build, then build on top of a great foundation .. These are the best in the industry and perhaps the world.. Invest in a good foundation

Curious, what do you think of motorized axle-less systems for adjusting the height of the trailer and trailer dolley system for more flexible tow options and how applicable they can be for THOWs at different size and weight ranges? Also, with the upcoming number of electric trucks being developed by Tesla, etc., would it be possible for a electric assisted drive to be integrated into a trailer to make them easier to tow? I'd understand if none of this is on your radar yet, but I figured the technology development is getting to the point that it would be good to get the opinion of someone in the industry, even if it's all still years away from wide commercial use. Though, I know axle-less systems are already being used in a wide range of applications, like Ice Castle Travel Trailers for ice fishing and there's some all terrain campers that use it too and can adjust the height to fit road conditions via bluetooth from the tow car, but that's a company in Australia and I haven't seen that offered in the states yet. While Truma has a electric drive attachment for certain trailers that can let you move it for remote controlled parking without needing to hitch a tow vehicle, but it's only available in the UK and only for certain Caravans there...
