    Hey Rick. Caught your video. This is exactly what I have been contemplating. However, just the high flow air filter is not enough. According to HD, it is very important to use the larger bore back plate. What was your end result? Tell me quick. My baby is at the stealership for this exact upgrade.

      Yes, it would. I ran this a/c setup with my stage 4 until Fuel Moto had me go to a larger air cleaner. Changing nothing else but the tune along with it, the gain was only a couple of HP and the TQ stayed the same. That tells me it flowed very well.

    ok here is the thing. stock air filter has 2 areas of restriction. first is on the surface area for air coming in so by changing the stock filter to K&N and cutting the black plastic made air come in easier and definitely higher flow. BUT BUT BUT the other restriction of air is from the back plastic housing into the throttle, that hole is smaller than the upgraded V&H or Arlen ness etc.. imagine you have a window of car half way down, when you speed up a peak load of air will be entering the car unless you open the window down fully you wont be able to have more air flow into your car right!! so that window in my example is the space you have attached to the throttle on OEM air filter housing and performance filters. great job for a stage 1 and 2 engines. but once you start going for stage 3, 4 and big bores then that wont be optimum. FYI there was no need to cut the above. simply just install the chrome without it and if you are worried about rain then you can have a breather cover in your saddle bag!!

  • @charlesscharfy6607
    @charlesscharfy6607 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks nice and nice craftsmanship and should work well when the bike is sitting still but with that said. When the bike is moving the air will flow though the front and right out the bottom which has a lower air pressure. So essentially you are creating wind flow and turbulence around the filter. The majority of the air will flow right through the front and out the bottom. It would be impossible for the intake to pull fresh air from the bottom. More harm than good other than cosmetics. You are better off with a stock box and adding K&N high flow filter.

  • @tjrunlimited

    Rick, one more question if you don’t mind. Since you’ve added the HI-Flo filter and hi-flo air box, what’s your sense of how performance of your bike changed? Did you run it before fuel tuning? How was that if so? DK Customs has a video where they say these M8’s ECM can handle the increased airflow without fuel tuning. What do you think now that you’re done? PS, I’ve been sanding imperfections out and I am ready to install the screen. Haste makes waste.

    • @StRYCH9ofFOCR
      @StRYCH9ofFOCR 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't accurately say, because I also added some pretty open slip-ons at the same time I did this mod, and tuned it with the PV-2. I can say that the difference over stock was measurable in that combination. If you already have aftermarket slip-ons, you should tune it also to get any noticeable performance increase. If not, finish the mod and ride on. However, you won't feel anything different from stock. Keep in mind that I did this with a full Stage I in mind. I have since gone on to a high-compression 120 Stage IV, and this setup was too restrictive for that.

    Rick, what are your thoughts on using clear silicone adhesive instead of epoxy?

    • @StRYCH9ofFOCR
      @StRYCH9ofFOCR 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I question the hold over time. Worst case it would loosen up and you could either reapply silicone or use epoxy on the 2nd go. Epoxy is guaranteed to hold.

  • @tjrunlimited
    @tjrunlimited 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Rick, I just successfully roughed out the bottom intake you made, using a scavenged air box from a 114. Next step is epoxy after a little more sanding and finish work. Like you, I puzzled over the shape of the cut out, but like yours, it semi follows the general shape of the whole air cleaner assembly, and now, I will have a cool looking custom Hi-Flo air box on my Road King, that admits almost twice the. air.
