What's your source for that? The sheet music I've seen shows no sharps or flats, indicating C major, whose relative minor is A minor.

@@dodger916 Search for "Whipping Post Hofstra" here on YT (I posted a link, but the comment was deleted by YT). The C# of A major is clearly heard. Also remember that the high harmony riff during the "Tied to the whipping post" section starts and ends on C#.

@@Flavum I'm only playing the E and B strings on the rhythm. But you are right - the first chord is A major. Playing the C# during the high harmony (or in the A chord) does not mean the song is in A major. The melody riff is clearly in A minor pentatonic, with the exception of the C# passing note that resolves to the C (minor 3rd) and then the root. Also, the third chord in the verse is a C - clearly not in A major. As I'm sure you know, the Allmans were great at constructing interesting, somewhat unconventional guitar harmonies and modal playing. All the notes in the harmony lick (that starts and ends in C# (Db)) are also in the D major scale, which is the A mixolydian mode. Many Allman guitar solos are played in the A dorian mode, or G major scale (Whipping Post, Elizabeth Reed, Hot 'Lanta, etc..). During the Fillmore version of Liz Reed, Duane wanders into the A phrygian mode, or F major scale. There is also an F# in the first "theme" of Elizabeth Reed. That doesn't mean it's in A major, but more likely A dorian mode..

The school was founded on inaccuracies & flawed data (overstating the backlog at LACS). Their so-called petition was worded poorly, misleading many of the signers. The fact was, locating it in Ithaca (a successful high school and school district) was a huge mistake as New Roots could NEVER meet their REQUIRED graduation and regents exam metrics when compared to Ithaca, which they have not. Their enrollment numbers are constantly manipulated to avoid charter violation, and their graduation rates were exposed as lies in the Ithaca Journal. Students who are in jeopardy of failing the regents (and thus not graduate) have been "asked" to return to their home school districts just before regents exams so New Roots's graduation rates don't suffer. Despite this obvious manipulation, New Roots still can't meet their required graduation metrics. Of course, New Roots waits until just before regents exams so as to take as much money from the school districts as possible. A handful of concerned, skeptical citizens attempted to obtain graduation metrics from New Roots through FOIA requests, only to be stone-walled by the administration (Tina Nilsen-Hodges). This group brought a landmark "Article 78" lawsuit against the school in order to obtain this graduation data, which showed Tina had grossly overstated her graduation rates in order to avoid charter violations. In fact, the judge used the term "pattern of neglect" to describe the school's behavior. It's hard for me to reconcile this style of "management" from people running a high school. Shameful and disgraceful, but that has been New Roots's M.O. from the start. Side note: The Article 78 lawsuit was "landmark" because it was the first time a charter school was required to reimburse the complainants for their legal fees, so egregious was their behavior and transparent their attempts to withhold publicly-available information. This "pattern of neglect" has continued to the present day. See also the Aug 8 board meeting video.
