I share this video as an instructional learning curve on how to walk in the deer woods! Now I learned this lots of years ago and it has worked for me many, many times! If you have ever listened to a deer walk in the leaves, IF he is not being cautious about his steps, (SEASONED DEER HUNTERS WILL KNOW THIS) but his foot steps sound like TICK, KATICK, TICK, KATICK. In a normal stride a deer's hooves leave and recontact with the ground two at a time. Right front, and left rear, then left front and right rear! That is in a normal stride. Now for the cautious stride which is what this old boy is doing! Notice he IS NOT DRAGGING HIS FEET IN THE LEAVES! ONE FOOT AT A TIME TO KEEP FROM MAKING NOISE, he is picking his feet straight up then straight down with his toes contacting the ground first then relaxing the back on the backs of his heals and I guarantee that he is not even making as much as a leaf crinkling sound which is the way they sneak through the woods in the caution stride and you cannot even hear as much as a stick pop! When I am still hunting or walking through the woods, I take a couple of strides then stop, look, and listen! Now just as this old boy is doing, I will pick my feet straight up, then set my toes down, and then relax my heels and it sounds exactly like a deer walking! I have walked up on a bunch of deer this way and it works! But you cannot be in a hurry while doing so! Slow down and enjoy your stalking in the woods rather than just walking and expecting to see what may have been there when it heard you coming from a mile away! If using this method of walking you will absolutely walk up on more deer and probably get a few pretty good shots at them also!
