Gasification vs. Incineration
มุมมอง 356K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Increasingly, gasification is being used to convert municipal solid waste, or MSW, into valuable forms of energy. While this type of waste has been burned, or incinerated, for decades to create heat and electricity, the gasification process represents significant advances over incineration. In order to understand the advantages of gasification when compared to incineration, it's important to un...

    byproduct is actually CO2, combining hydrocarbon and water steam at high temperature and pressure to make hydrogen and CO gas, and reuse CO gas to generate more hydrogen by combining again with water. under spesific catalyst its can be done... industry usually use this valuable hydrogen not as fuel, but as building block in chemistry, example: production of ammonia from nitrogen and hydrogen, then ammonia can be converted into nitrit acid, fertilizer, another example is hyrogen peroxide production, hydrogen chloride production by burning hydrogen and chlorine together, this compound is precursor of many chemicial and chlorocarbon such PTFE, PVC, hydrochloric acid, etc!

    Im starting to think that gassification is wasteful in terms of energy produced. I doubts it even actually cleaner, just like how they can clean the tar etc out of the syngas they can clean up by products of incineration. Also ash is the left over from incineration, its slag for gasification, is that not the same thing. If yo want to produce an energy store, some kind of fuel that will be converted or transported, fine, but not a 1:1 vs incinaration where is can be a replacement. Personal gasifiers make sence, esp in an emergency since no private person has personal steam turbine to run via incineation.

      Gabberag the exergertic efficiency observed in most IG/GT combined with Rankine cycles systems is around 30%. The gas produced has a combustion enthalpy around 5 MJ/kg, thus is a good way of disposal MSW

    They forget to say about where the heat that supplies the gasification process comes from! Something has to be burned in order for syngas to be produced. Looking at syngas as a means of industrial electricity isn't a good option. Its basically creating a middle man. Instead of incinerating waste to create electricity, we basically burn something (presumably waste) in order to heat up more waste to produce a gas that is burned again to produce electricity. There is no such thing as a perfect system in efficiency, so heating something to produce something that is burned again should lose massive amounts of efficiency, i might be off on this data but i believe that most incinerators can achieve efficiencies of 65-80%. I dont think gasification can achieve this (though i maybe wrong) Especially with its "two part electricity generation". I do realize though that syngas has other purposes than just electricity, but I'm talking strictly electricity here. And on another note if i remember correctly syngas is mainly made up of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and a little methane (natural gas) all these are flammable but in comparison to natural gas the energy content of syngas is far lower, I believe it doesn't even contain 1/2 as much energy. As just to be clear im not bashing syngas totally. I realize renewable energy is limited and this is the best "renewable gas" besides bio-methane at the moment but i think if an education video is going to be made about gasification all the facts and figures should be laid on the table. We know renewable energy isn't going to be easy or pretty quit hiding things from the public!

      There would most likely be a initial firing engine, powered by diesel or petrol to get the system up to temp. In theory it should then be able to keep it's temperature level through the system's processes. However, MSW will not convert into syngas because of the variable composition and chemical makeup of the feedstock! it can only be used on one material (mainly biomass) and even then the technology cannot run consistantly

      So you are whinging about the energy used to get rid of waste that leaves basically charcoal, which then converts to fuel?

    • @SpaceTrashCrash
      @SpaceTrashCrash 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DavidJohnson-dc8lu - You are intentionally ignoring the point, which is simply to concider comparing the efficiencies of incineration or syngas. I can't imagine why you call a scientific question "whining". Seems like you are whining about someone posing a legitimate question. Why are you against anyone questioning syngas? I assume you're affiliated with the company. You have a cultish blind faith that makes you irate over logical questions.
